    I haven't thought about the reverse siphon from the return. You the might have saved me a big mess in the future.

    Hey Buddy! Came across this video while trying to set up an overblox box in a 40B. I see your accounts still active, so I hope you can answer my question… eshopps sells sumps that claim to be quite. Seen a few videos on it. But how are the noise for hob overflows? I’m pretty sensitive to noise, so I get easily distracted & my reefs in my office room that I pretty much live in.

      The HOB overflow are pretty noisy. You can reduce it by adding a cover to the top. They also have drilled overflow boxes, that's going to be less noisy.

    You COULD setup the JBJ ATO to run the aqua lifter and start the siphon. Keep the airline tubing in the U tube and setup the JBJ ATO to turn on if the water in the display rises too much, this would restart the siphon. I know it is another piece of equipment to purchase. But it's a small price to pay for insurance. The cost of the JBJ ATO is probably close to the same price as the return pump and a lot cheaper than wet floors!
    I have zero experience with the Eshopps overflow boxes, but I have read around the web on them over the years. There are a lot of people who have used this for many years without it every having an issue.

      +pelphrey Thanks for the input. I've already got the float valve/eshopps ATO to go with the system.

      +j03yYunG Aquariums I haven't tested it personally, but I don't see why it couldn't work. I should have said that in my comment!

    check valve on the return back to the aquarium is a great idea and not necessarily a restriction depending on your pump and the check valve used. If you you a flap valve, this requires very little pressure to have it open then close in the event of a power out. Spring loaded check valve is a waste of time because it requires high pressures to have it activate. Remembering also, if you do install a flap valve, make sure its at the sump end of the pipe and not up near the tank as this will only allow a tiny amount of water to flow back into the sump.

    That over flow reminds my of the hang on back filters 40 years ago where all we had was poly fill and carbon. The way the filter work was water went into the box went though the pily fill and carbon then there was a pump returning the filter water back to the tank.

    Is the u-tube touching the bottom of the inner tank box? What I don't understand is when the power is out and the siphon will stick all the water off the inner box and won't that suck air as well?

    • @PurelyAquatic
      @PurelyAquatic  Před 6 lety

      It'll stop once the water levels are equal on both side of the U-tube. So you'll have water left in both boxes.

    Do you use the rim clip on the J return. I have same but did not come with clip. Wondering if it helps and where can I buy one ✌️

      Its from the water hose siphon. amzn.to/2tOoLZ6

    should have a check valve on the return. Trust that more them the small hole. Does the vacuum on the overflow the way you have it setup going up the tube start the syphone again have you tested that? im not feeling drilling my tank i have done it in the past but got my hamds on a overflow like this.

    • @PurelyAquatic
      @PurelyAquatic  Před 8 lety

      I've tested this setup for awhile and haven't had a issue with the syphon when power goes out.

      i just picked up something similar i have drilled tanks before but didnt want to drill the one i have now. i have never used these overflows and not gonna lie im a little nervous but i figure lots of people use it and if i use it correctly it should be ok.

    How much room do you need behind your tank for that?

    • @PurelyAquatic
      @PurelyAquatic  Před 5 lety

      It varies from company to company, but this eshopp overflow box is ~4"
