I wanted to thank you for putting is up, I had to house sit for my father and the overflow box in his fishtank stopped suction while he was gone and I had no way of contacting him. I didn't even know what the part was called until I came across your video. Thank you so much.
You are a lifesaver! I just upgraded my overflow box to the PF-800 from an old CPR that required a luft pump. I was a bit confused on how to prime this and your video was very helpful! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for this video. Definately gonna get one now. I didn’t want to drill my tank but I was unsure what would happen if the power went out. Great video dude.
I would just like to let you know you saved the day. My dad started my siphon before and never told me how and i was putting a filter under my return pump so i broke the siphon then i thought i knew how and i tried and couldn't get it so finially i looked it up anf found this video. Thank you!
Thank you, 1st time using a sump & one U tube was not working & thanks to thy video I was able to start that U tube & I have 2 U tubes on my overflow box . ➕🇺🇸
Have the issue of losing our siphons on the tanks here at the studio. Cant thank you enough for making this video. Saved me a ton of frustration even though i went at the thing for an hr prior to looking up this video lol This worked like a charm
OMG!! Thank you so much for this video! I was house sitting & pulled out the U shaped tube like I was told when feeding so the food didn’t’ t just get sucked up right away before the fish could eat it but was not told how to restart the siphon. I was panicking for about 45 min before I finally found this. But how do I stop the gurgling (or more like bathtub draining) sounds that come from the overflow box?
You can also drill a small hole at the center of the u tube and add and glue a check valve into it. Then just add a small air hose whenever u need to purge air bubbles whenever they start to happen.
You man thanks alot for that video i was about to call a guy to come set it up for me, i been stuck right there for an hour or so trying to figure that out
Thanks! Amazes me how common overflows are but how uncommon a video such as this is. So basically, taking the air out of the tube stops the water from being restricted from flow and once over the hump pushes the remaining air out by gravity, correct?
Just transitioned from a 75 with two internal filters to a 155 bow front with a sump! So it’s all new to me! Still a fresh water African child tank right now. But I figure there’s no better way to get used to the equipment! Starting that siphon was pain in the ass until I found your video! Found one more after yours but that was it!! Thank you!!! Is it normal forward to suck down and then fill back up? Sounds like it’s not filling the sump return quick enough. Unless that’s the way it is supposed to operate. Literally just got it running today
@Bobby Caron, the only way that siphon will break is if someone lifts it out of the two boxes beyond the water level or if the U-tube happens to get cracked, or you have to many air bubbles which can become trapped in the U-Tube. He didn't show it in the vid, but you have to suck the air out of the u-tube which will lift the water level up into the u-tube and over the hump, shaking the u-tube as he was doing will help remove any remaining bubbles.
What I did was drill a hole in the top of the siphon and connect that to a pump head aeration inlet. Switch on the pump head and it sucks out the air. I think it's a common trick, makes everything automatic.
@purplechub I guess because of the way the overflow box is built on the back of the aquarium. I can cut the power off for hours, and as long as, you don't remove the u tube, it will not get any air in it
Thank u a lot for this video ! Helpfull aswell ! :) I want to make some hob sump back at aquarium and want to use this trick, do u think it will work the same way ?
No.. what you want to do is drill a hole in the top of the tube to install the airline then put a check valve on the other end.. then seal the airline to the tube with a little silicone. Then simply suck out the air in the same way... soon as it’s done just drop the airline and check valve back into the box so it’s not dangling around the side of the tank.
@BERELEAH Sorry about my slow response. I was trying to do it by myself. I just sucked on the airline until the water reached the airline tube. Then I stoped and pulled out the airline tube
dude dip it in the aquarium turn it upside down then when filled with water turn it back upright lift it out place it were it belongs priming without the air hose
what do you do about air getting trapped in the U bend.. seems to slow my water flow.. so then i have to redo the siphon .. happens alot :( and the noise OMG! gotta try that cap silencer.. getting the siphon going can still be tricky this way... got to be a better way.. But great video .. not any out there that i found
I need help I'm trying to set up a sump for my biocube 14i just have no idea on how to do it I was wondering if you would help me get started with it tell me what u need more or less thanx
So if I buy a Eshopps pf 800 it will make a loud noise? like water gurgling or splashing. and is those HOB overflow box fail safe in case of hours and hours of power outage? Please answer this I am near to the hob overflow
What if you lose siphon and the power is still on. The pump will just keep pumping water into the tank and flood it won't it? How can you be 100% sure how won't lose siphon ever? Just curious cuz I want to have a sump.
Just hook the return pump up to a ATO and place the float switch next to the pump. When the overflow box loses siphon the pump will be turned off at whatever level you placed the sensor.

That is true. All videos and people talk about the reverse problem if the pump goes off.. then of course it will only drain the marginal amount of water in the sump that can hold that much excess water. But they dont say how if you lose siphon it will keep feeding the display water, and thats a bigger concern. I would advise to keep your return pump very high on a shelf in the sump, with the outlet of the pump maybe 2 inches below.. to limit much water output
Not sure why this is about the only video of its kind. Very nice job. I was lost without this!!!

Thank you so much! You're right. This is not easy to find. So happy you shared this.
Thanks man my tank is over at my mom's house and it's a blizzard so I can't get over there to do this so I sent this video to show her how to do this
Your welcome. I did this, because I couldn't find a video explaing it or the siphon break hole when I started my tank
11 years ago and still the most helpful video explains everything perfect and no bs short and simple!
Thank you so much for this video. Definately gonna get one now.
I didn’t want to drill my tank but I was unsure what would happen if the power went out.
Great video dude.

Thanks for the tutorial. It's nice to see in a practical application. The reverse siphon was a great help!
thanks for the tip on the return siphon break - REALLY good to know!
Thanks my brother your video was the best I have seen to help me with this problem it worked out great 👍

Thanks for making this video. Great awareness and can’t wait to set mine up.
Genius... this things should come with these types of instructions!! We were about to give up...!!

very good video, i have the same overflow box, never lost siphon for over a year now :)
Very helpful! Thanks for doing this video.
Thank You! You helped me out a lot
you're welcome
Thanks! I have searched for a video explaining this for days!!
Lol you literally saved my life. Someone else set up my tank and didn’t tell me shit about how to do this.
Thank u I was looking for something like this all night
Major thanks. Was a pain to find out how to do this. Big help.

Thank you heaps, this has helped my mum set up hers without too much hassle

This comment helped me understand what I was actually doing. Thank you so much!! I could not get my tank working until I saw this comment and video!
im actually trying to do this now, and i hope your method works

Awesome! I just bought a non-drilled tank and was wondering how the overflow box works, hang on style. Is that the eshopps one?
Excelent Video men!!! that's what I want it to know!!!
Great video thanks for sharing!
by drilling into your return, do you get a lot of wtaer flowing through that small hole?
thank you so much i'm doing this right now !!

i really wanted to figure this out on my own unstill this popped up on my home page lol oh well verry nice thanks for the tip
Thanks man! Nice lookin tank BTW!!
Great video!
You are a life saver
it actually worked, thank you for the vid

Very helpful.. Thank you very much!
I have a Rio 2800ss return pump at around 4ft. It has a ball valve, so it's only running at about 80-85%

No. The problem with ones like cpr is if the power goes out then comes back on. and the pump has a problem, then the tank will overflow.
I would use the same set up as me, but I would use vinyl tube and use a eshopps nano overflow box.
One thing I'm confused on is what if the pump doesn't cut out but the siphon breaks?
@BERELEAH
Sorry about my slow response. I was trying to do it by myself. I just sucked on the airline until the water reached the airline tube. Then I stoped and pulled out the airline tube
I've heard there's an easy diy attachment you can make called a hofer gargle buster.
Why does everything sound better in a calm Southern drawl?
Can you show how you Plumbed it?
dude dip it in the aquarium turn it upside down then when filled with water turn it back upright lift it out place it were it belongs priming without the air hose
that pretty much sums it up

Tried this but the u shaped pipe keeps getting air bubbles in it and I’m sucking up water

Hey will just got this overflow but the tube it came with is so short , do I need a long one like you had ?

@marklovesestera your welcome
How many inches should the siphon break be under water?
Onde encontra essa mangueira curva?
No water comes out. It is slightly below the water line. It's meant to allow air to get in and keep the return line from back siphoning.
It's in the instructions.
your welcome
you cant see how you do it the camera was pointing down.
Hehe, I figured I'd save ya the extra typing lol

How often do you perform water changes, if at all, with that overflow box?
probably once every 6 months I take the box off and clean it out. I do weekly water changes on the tank itself.
Once a week? But why so often? I thought the purpose for overflows is to reduce the need for water changes and to have more efficient filtration.
Overflow boxes are a way to get water rom your tank to a sump or refugium below your tank, without drilling your tank.
Can I use a 29 G sump for a 125 Gallon display tank?
I would think that would be too small. A 40 gallon breeder would be better. I have a 20 gallon refugium under my 40 breeder now.
Eshopps pf800
9/64 bit.
just put the whole thing in a bucket of water
U Tube!

That's a good tip. I'd rather burn out a pump instead of flooding my entire bedroom.
Exactly.. 200 bucks is not as bad as several thousand give or take
Tareck Fahmi you could just drill your tank and eliminate the problem all together. : P lol.
Benjamin
Wow, I didn't think of that. Thanks!
