- At More Fire Glass Studio, Elizabeth Lyons and her team take us through the fascinating process of glass blowing one-of-a-kind pieces. We see how cups, jars, vases, and other beautiful shapes go from sand to full blown items that can be used on restaurant tables. You can see more work from More Fire Glass Studio here: www.morefireglass.com/.

It's extremely rare to find an accurate & relatively thorough step by step explanation of the process of blowing glass & the tools involved. ( I've got 10 years experience blowing glass)
The Corning Glass Museum is an awesome YT channel and very well done. As is this one.
Sadly a dying art, you should try to pass it on!
Hey guys it's me, glass.
I wish i was glass
Worked 10 years at a glass factory. We did all hand blown glass. All of ours was Crystal. Sorry to say it’s all close down and going away. It is just amazing where you can take something so hot and make it to something beautiful
Very true. When you're a maker, you have to do it to keep your sanity. You're really compelled to just create.
Musician/artist here 100% agree, when I'm not creating I'm pretty miserable.
Amazing craft. I’m a Chef from the Rochester NY area and absolutely love the REAL Artisanship of this.
GREAT JOB!!!!
AWESOME!!! Thank you. Good to know we still American craftsmen on the job. May the Almighty continue to bless and protect you and you are both beautiful.
Thank you for also going through some of the tools and how they are used.
I always love watching the glass blowers at a renaissance fair
I would like to thank you for the efforts you have made to this amazing work.
I was absolutely mind blown the first time I saw this as a kid on Åland
She is truly a master in her art, beautiful pieces..
Glass is my favourite material. Its smooth, squeaky, shiny and attractive.
The only thing I know about glass is that it scratched at level 6 with deeper grooves at level 7.
thats a next level youtube comment joke
This is really hard work. Constantly working infront of heating chamber is tuff job. The job is under credited. 👍
Thank you, this was informative & beautiful (and some good quips!)
Just amazing and both of them are true artist.
First time I ever saw this done I was a little kid in the early 80s. The Renaissance Faire in Sterling NY had a booth where you could buy hand-blown glass and the guy running it would do demonstrations throughout the day.
Hey Viking. Lol I grew up in Hannibal NY in the 80’s and have also see this at the Sterling REN. Fair too! Hahahahaha, small world!
Most facinating art to watch😍
I always wondered how glasses were made thanks for this.
I’m sorry....the glory hole? Just gonna casually drop that in there. Alrightie then!
I was blown away over that🤪
Furnita is hot tho.
Matt Uden Oh the pleasures of a good Glory hole
Don't stick your junk in that glory hole...
Jen blowing by the gloryhole ...I had to just turn off the video. Too hot for tv. lol jk
Very cool episode! Glass artists are badass!
Lovely and talented lady💖
Stunning work.
Awesome!
Amazing Technique
Thank you for sharing your experience, I went to Murano and I saw all the process.
amazing edit. thank you
The blowing happens in the glory? NICE!!
They look really cool in those protective glasses...
That's the job I can enjoy doing it every day.
Blowing something out of the glory hole. Fantastic!

I learned more about glassblowing from this one video than an entire season of Blown Away on Netflix. Why don’t they explain anything?
Blown Away!
Wonderful.
8:46 that was prolly the coolest thing i have ever seen
More handmade episode please!!
She said she's been working with Jen for 16yrs and I'm like damn, Jen doesn't even look 16.. Beautiful..
There is so much innuendo in this video
good video great hands
awesome video
Saw this type of craft in Asheville 💓
Cool video
great video, very informative! I've always wondered how glass was made into such lovely pieces. thanks!
Damn Good Video
I hope I have one of your design I love it
This is the first time I've seen someone else blow and the other shape. Idr that before. I saw one asian master use an assistant blower... after searching. I also never have seen water flowing over the bar used... that's cool.
Cool video, also I drive a genesis so thought that was really weird that they funded this but also really really cool
This fascinates me............i dont know if I'd be able to handle all that heat in there though.
Whilst everyone talked about the gloryhole, they didn't realise the art and dedication goes into glass blowing .Tremendous.
It kinda fascinates me how glass can look so stretchy, and almost tasty (if you know what I mean), but can change into a fragile piece of art
She sure is good at blowing
Yeah, we get that a lot.
This is utopia, an artisan society where you find your passion and live off of it
Glassmaking hasn’t changed in thousands of years. Proceeds to use a blow torch
most of these glass blowers especially the masters make a lot they normally make or are hired to make specialized glass containers and flasks for bio/chem labs (salary range from 110k-300K+ with good retirement plans ,benefits and stable career)
i’m looking into pursuing glassblowing as a career, where did you learn this?!
@@hayleyvaneykeren5875 Well one of my friends does this for a living and I was a biochem major at one point during university. If you want to become one you have 2 realistic pathways. the first pathway requires you to find an academic institution with glass blowing as a program the second path is one of apprenticeship. Jobwise universities generally offer better benefits and corporations better pay, however, note that glassblowing isn't really lung friendly (if you aren't careful you can feel the detrimental effects as early as your 50's to 60's). Note that salary for these jobs are rather under-reported similar to a SE because your salary isn't equal to your total compensation in most cases (they probably have a teamblind for craftsmen)
@@hayleyvaneykeren5875 hoped i helped...
@@nathanielme2622 I’ve actually been looking into this aggressively lately and i’ve scheduled a class for next week. The guy who it’s with offered me an apprenticeship if Im interested!! probably going to do that for a while and go to college way in the future to expand my knowledge. thank you though! great advice
@@hayleyvaneykeren5875 Go for the apprenticeship if you can. The college itself doesn't really teach you much as far as glass blowing goes. A lot of the chem courses leading up to or even the higher level chemistry can be self-taught. In fact, most of the CHM5xx or CHM5xxx series courses are almost entirely self-taught even if you do go to uni or college. Hope you best of luck -Nate
👍👍👍👍👍
I love the art of glassblowing, it's kinda sad to see it be replaced but generic, commercialized food/drinkware
seen this sort of work up in Washington, museum of glass, really cool stuff hand made glass.
Am was APPRECIATE and really AWESOME, Sis

Shout out to everyone who gathered too little and tossed a piece cause the moil was too small 👍
Wonderful women👍.
If you'd like to see more glassblowing videos, check out the Corning Museum of Glass's channel. BTW, I am not associated with the museum, I just enjoy watching people work with glass.
Didn’t know Pam worked as a glassblower
Does anyone remember that awesome documentary about blowing glass pipes that was on netflix a few years ago? Cant remember what it was called.
I believe you’re thinking of Degenerate Art: The Art and Culture of Glass Pipes, not sure if it was on Netflix but it’s on CZcams somewhere. Great documentary! Bob Snodgrass and Red Beard are legends!

I'm speaking of the activity of making glassware. Not glassware itself.
Why do you think i said "hot" and " a chance of explosions".

Me, after watching Dr. Stone : mom, can i do glass blowing?
This is a hard fkn job
boro best glass.
That's not the Glory hole I've seen in other videos :/
You all now know how terminator was made.
Seems like the process could be very dangerous. I burn myself cooking dinner daily!
my dumbass would accidentally inhale near the blowing pipe
I tried to come up with a glassware pun..
but it *blows!*
so, after coming out from that gloryhole must blow it immediately or just wait for a few little more insertion?
Well, I wish I could do this because I can blow up a balloon.
6:30 "The blowing happens when the piece is really hot and you're working with a partner" 😉😏
And that is why the fancy bongs cost so much money.
I thought we would see muscle mens

Is no one going to mention the glory hole?

"Man's job" - yes back when we had to do things the hard way. Men aren't exactly lining up to live that way.
But there are still all kinds of construction workers, cattle herders, and other physical work if you don't love money and don't mind grinding your body down.
get a blowtube lol 6:06 soft glass is so weird. lets have 9 people make something that a torch worker could make by themselves

I dont understand the fuss over plastic when creating glass bottles is as unfriendly to the environment. or am I missing something?
Melt glass you get molten glass, melt plastic welp there goes your lungs
while it is true that the final product has a high decomposition time, it doesn't really have the same impact on the environment as plastic in this process, it doesn't float in the ocean, the risk of animals ingesting it is close to zero, it doesn't create traps or areas that would occult sunlight, or air, clog pipes etc
most importantly the production process doesn't require huge, energy intensive machines that emit gas and polluting vapors.
Also the base material is literally sand, not petrochemicals etc
that require even more industrial work upstream
I guess glass is not a perfect material there's no question about it, but comparing it to plastic seems like madness
@@Yaumyt I see. thanks for the info, didn't realize these things. but looking at this process still seems a bit too much. so, I guess there's really no solution.
@@Yaumyt Ingest glass and tell me the danger to you is zero.
I'm not generally disagreeing.
@@keenotski You remember that last glass plant fire that polluted the air for miles and put tons of pollution in the air? No? Because it never happened
Microplastics and detrius are eaten by animals, who fill their stomachs but still starve. Those fish are an important part of the human food supply, btw.
You only see one furnace and see a lot of energy being used. You don't look at plastic and see the damage the entire chain produces.
