I think a lot of people are missing the big picture in this review. The “off roading ” that he did with this vehicle today, is probably way more than 99% of these trucks will ever see in their lives.
Exactly. It shows the truck’s limit, which demonstrates it will be perfectly capable for pretty much everyone that buys it.
Perfect for anybody that needs a small truck with pretty good off road capabilities you won’t keep up with the rubicons or broncos but you’re also spending 25k not 50k anything “more capable” will cost much more
@@theprodegypk I think this one as equipped is around 35K.
I ordered AWD 4k but no fx4. To me the stickers detract from the look and not getting sport mode on a 250hp engine is wrong. Yes 99% of the time you will not rock hop with such a low ground clearance vehicle. AWD can easily handle the dirt roads to your campsite which is likely the most extreme people will use this for. Oh and you have to pay for the skid plate to get removed every time you need an oil change.
Very much in agreement I have had big truck loaded to the files and yes I bought a Maverick and haven't been this excited over a truck since i was 16 I will miss my king ranch but never got close to using it to it's full potential and I highly doubtful I'll ever need anything more than three Maverick at this moment
At least the chip shortages aren't affecting Drive Sports TV video schedule too! Hasn't even been a week since the review with the factory tires.
Love your unbiased reviews! This is my fav real world off-roading channel for real world vehicles
Most people will buy this so they can have a truck, and get the MPG of a car.
Nothing wrong with that and many people don’t need a big truck
I've just become interested today. Thinking of trading my 2020 Mustang GT for one
@@theboringchan it isn’t a bad looking vehicle they are actually a nice looking vehicle inside and out they are more than well worth the money
@@zackhaycraft8159 not at all. I don’t need a big truck, but I need something with 4WD For winter
@@professorheisenberg4604 awd will do just as good but if you get a lot of snow then you may have to get a 4x4
I know this truck isn’t made for offroad but it really fascinates me seeing this thing take on trails. I’ve got a 19 rebel and these things have gotten insane in price so glad to see something so attainable price wise, I’ve recommended this to my sister for her first new car she’s 19 and I think this would make a nice reliable long term vehicle without financially crippling her.
Is this a bit comment?
nothing reliable about hybrids
@@declanmckeown323 this version is a turbocharged 4 cylinder
@@declanmckeown323 Do your research, this Hybrid system is considered very reliable. That said it will need a new battery in 10 years which will be costly.
@@declanmckeown323 this isn't hybrid
I've been watching this truck since it was first announced. The last 2 reviews on this truck are the best by far. Thanks for buying the truck to let us get a true sense of it's capabilities. When you get a chance maybe spend some time showing us the different configurations in the bed with all the slots. Thanks again.
Thank you for showing how to properly let a traction control system function. By keeping the throttle steady and let it do the work, it usually figures things out. I see many simply let off the throttle the moment it starts spinning and wonder why it doesn’t work.
Great review as always!
In this thread: "it should have some kind of fancy offroading stuff that most people will never need and will jack up the price substantially, thus destroying the appeal of a cheap truck!!"
I agree. This isn't what I'd call a cheap truck. Ford needs to offer a more basic version.
It's not a truck, It's on a unibody platform. It's essentially a jacked up car.
Trucks are body on frame.
A ranger is body on frame.
@@joetoyota7903 they do, the base model starts at $19,999 (before dealer delivery charges).
@@Arthurian. pedantry is not a personality, go outside and touch some grass.
@@lesmalan or perhaps Just not call it a truck. 🤷
It's simple 🕺
I think your reviews are among the best on CZcams and the Maverick is a smash hit for its intended audience which is not off roading. It will be a great alternative to almost any subcompact sedan aimed at city driving and the FX4 package should help in snow and ice where it will be needed most of all for most drivers of the Maverick.
Just in time! Good start to a Sunday morning! Thanks Ryan.
Maverick looks soo good with those offroad tires!
I love how you’re not bias at all. I’m currently very interested in buying a maverick for it’s all round capabilities. My old Lincoln town car is great and all it’s just not utility capable. Most videos I watch are just “WOW THIS PICKUP IS GREAT” or “TRASH DONT BUY” it’s nice to see someone actually meet in the middle and give an honest review
Ryan crushing it on Sunday morning! 👍
That bronco sport Twin clutch rear would make this thing so much more capable.
I'd give it a month before people start swapping them
A lot of things would make this much more capable, but then it wouldn't be affordable. Honestly, this Maverick probably did more off-roading here than the vast majority of 1/2 tons on the road right now. For what it is at it's price point its more than capable enough. Ford will sell a ton of these.
I’m guessing they are saving it for a maverick tremor
@@panzer_TZ
Please. This one has the FX4 Off Road package. It should really be as off road capable as the very similar Bronco Sport with the available twin-clutch rear drive unit.
Not really, its still limited by lack of torque and no low range
I think this would be great for some forest service road dispersed camping.
Ryan is the man! Thanks for the quick follow-up with REAL A/T tires!
Awesome test course really like the current series of vehicles you’re putting through it this is a great feature adding new tires to the Truck thanks for the contact
Surprisingly I quite like the looks of this truck, but don’t believe its designed to be off-road capable, but rather more medium mud, light snow roads or the occasional forest road...sort of like how the majority of truck owners use their vehicles. This did OK in that context. Slightly better tires than stock helped. On our last two vehicles we upgraded tires right away and the tire dealers purchased the stock tires....only reduced the purchase cost by perhaps 25% but in our case didn’t really want to have extra tires sitting around. Fun video as usual!
I bet a sway bar quick disconnect would vastly improve the off road abilities.
My hyundai tucson can offroad just as good lol
I believe you hit the nail on the head so to speak. I’d like to add that 90+% of people spend at least 90% of their time on the road. Automakers are realizing that what people think they need vs what they actually need are 2 very different things. It’s just good business to meet your customers needs while trying to make them think your meeting their wants as well.
This is the content I’m here for. Keep up the maverick content! Thinking about getting one down the road
Great experiment! All of my curiosity gets answered here. One of my favorite review channel.
Yessssss. Been waiting for this all week.
I subscribed to this channel not too long ago and I am glad I did . Thanks for the video !
Thank you for your test, I hope to see some snow videos when the time comes.
You'll have to let us know how those BFG Trail-Terrains do in the rain and snow! Great review on off-road on the Maverick so far.
It's a great truck ..another truck home run by Ford. They are hard to get but my neighbor is raving bout his so far! Traded his fake truck Ridgeline for the Maverick:)
@@Davido50 Why do you say the Ridgeline is fake? Isn't it a a unibody truck, just like the Maverick? Also, did you see it climb a similar trail on Driving Sports TV? It's all wheel drive was up to the task, even on the stock tires. I'm not saying I'd get one, but the facts are the facts.
Thank you for the Maverick videos!
The Maverick definitely needs the rear LSD from the Bronco Sport. The brakes clearly are not helping transfer power to the wheel with better traction.
Maybe that will be the Timberline upgrade.
Exactly what I said. At least put a Rear LSD in the FX4 package.
Not even a complex LSD. Just throw a clutch type mechanical lsd in it. Zero maintenance. 200k mile life span. Less cost.
Tremor package in the future.
Imagine a Maverick Raptor :)
Good review of the Maverick now with the proper set of tires. I'm impressed enough with it offroad capabilities.
Thanks for putting this out so soon
Another excellent video, Ryan. I really liked the comparison between the two set of tires and that BFG didn't know you were going to do this. I see the current setup as a must (since I am a photographer who does workshops in the wilds of New Mexico) for those of us who want to get a bit off-road, but to the "danger points." Keep 'em coming!
That made quite the improvement in traction. I think that’s probably the limit of what that can do off road.
Nice testing 👍
I’ve had my maverick for 3 days now and I’m in love with driving this thing
Thanks for the revised test. You can move up to a 245/65r17 with no lift/ no rub.
This looks perfect for getting to the mountain bike trails where my non-motorized off-roading fun typically begins. Certainly not as capable of a mid-size built for off road use, but perfect for a lot of people who are looking for a utilitarian vehicle that will primarily be used on roads.
Can't wait to see what else you do with the Maverick. Great video.
A solid video series in the in the making.
Many thanks Ryan !!
I Just got word from Ford this evening that my Maverick 2.0 Eco boost, OFF Road, 4x4 has just been built and I am told to expect delivery between 11/12 - 11/18. . . . Can't wait !!!
This video and the previous were of GREAT value . . . . thanks ever so much for sharing !
( I may purchase all terrain for the Winter and use the originals for the Summer. )
Awesome video! Watched last week's video and never expected to see an update with AT tires so soon. Subbing for quality content, looking forward to it.
Cant wait for the next video!
One of the best reviews! On maverick. He gave us a incite on 4x4. I like watching
Great video. Stay safe with that bomb cyclone, Ryan!
Excellent video, thanks for showing the Maverik Im Franco from Argentina
This is great, thanks for doing this!
I really appreciate the real unscripted way your video was! Really looking at the Maverick and I think I'm convinced for what I need 🙌
Watching from Cambodia 🇰🇭 love this car
great no BS review!
This channel deserves more subscribers
The Falken wild peak trail is quieter on the road because of the tighter tread blocks especially in the center of the tire because that's what touches the road at higher speeds. The shoulder being one continuous block on the BFG doesn't matter as much on the road because at higher speeds the shoulder doesn't touch the road as much
Thanks for the vid and test bud-really well put together. Why I like the truck:
-Easy to park (parallel as well) and maneuver in the metropolis city I live in
-Can access all the fishing spots where terrain is just sand and beach areas on the Texas coast to launch my fishing kayak
-Better mpg for city driving
A large majority of truck owners never tow or haul so don’t play yourself dropping 45k+ if you’re not using it for work.
That last point is the strongest one. Never have I ever (personally) seen someone with a full size truck that worked on jobsites or in any trade for that matter.
Great and honest review again. Hope to see your review of the outback wilderness in that trail of yours. ☺️🔥
I'm buying this exact model because of you.
Amazing video. It was a real video loved it. Don’t change anything.
Thank-you Ford Motor Company, especially the great people at Sames Ford in Corpus Christi, TX. for being so wonderful to my brother on Veteran's Day.
What a great surprise for him to receive his 2022 White Maverick on Veteran's Day.
Interested in a ridgeline vs maverick review 👍
My instincts tell me this isn't a pick-up for moderate off-roading (as being demonstrated). Hard dirt road or packed sand/gravel is more to its liking.
Soft road not off road, for sure
Or winter driving
I'm sure a tremor will come out with the locking rear differential.
I think Ford's been marketing it as a truck for City clickers. It's a hybrid SUV with a truck bed basically. And I'm all for it. I'd buy it if it's reliable. Time will tell.
I ordered a Maverick but I will never take it off roading. I don't know why people that would never think about taking a sedan off road but don't have a problem with taking a Maverick off road.
I just love these videos.
keep up the good work
Looking forward to more trail terrain content, especially in the snow. I have K02s on my Subaru and these are enticing.
The right tires make a huge difference! ie: all season vs snow tires. Love your reviews! Cheers!
💯
Had summer tires on my M550i. Got like 3-4inches of snow. I was lucky to make it home😂 That car was pretty much useless with those things on.
What’s funny is the line of cars behind me probably thought I was some goody two shoes prick that didn’t want his bimmer to get wrecked. When in reality, I couldn’t stop or move💀
Another great video
Great vid thanks
This is why Matt's Offroad Recovery exists.
Impressed with the tires on that truck.
Thank you. This is far better than the 2x4 version.
Great video. That is perfect for 99% of people shopping this vehicle.
Went in and placed my order on mine on Saturday, XLT Carbonized Gray with the FX4 and 4k towing option. Ill be driving straight from the dealership to the tire shop..... in about 12-16 weeks when it comes in haha.
I wanna see you take the Maverick and Crosstrek in a head to head on the section of overland trail you use. That could be really fun :)
^I second that!
this is the match up
I wish crosstrek had lumbar support lol
Yes please!
Yes I'm mixed between getting the Mavrick and the Crosstrek. I want a wallet friendly vehicle that can deal with little off road for the weekend and winter snow, but can be my every day and only vehicle. I'm not seen anyone put these two head to head yet.
Definitely needs a limited slip rear diff, well done.
I bet a sway bar quick disconnect would vastly improve the off road abilities.
get the ranger
@@inthisdayandage2793 Possible, if the reliability wasn't dog shit..
I'm not sure if that makes sense in a truck that isn't designed to go off-road nor will many buyers do so.
@@baddriversofcolga See my edit, its what I actually meant.
Hot Dang this was a well made video!
I really like those trail terrains. I might get those for our fx4 maverick
Can’t wait for on-road and a snow review! Thinking I’ll replace my Terra Grapplers with these next fall.
Great tire review as well
I was definitely expecting KO2s, or something on that level. I do agree with the idea that it needs the upgraded rear end from the bronco sport. Heres to hoping a trim is introduced.
I think it did well for what limited capability is in the Maverick.. Great job on picking the right tires!
Nice video. Maverick is great for what it is designed to be, city driving, gravel road, and cleared roads. However, someone will likely build or develop parts that will likely improve off roading because this is what we do in Merica
Damn straight. 🇺🇸
I'm curious how it will handle ice conditions. Hopefully you can manage a review of that in a few months. Good videos.
Loooove it! Always dreamt of having a truck but I just cant see using the large bed very often. But this small truck seems justifiable. It’s small enough to not make me feel bad. 😅
Very capable off roader too!
Great video, as usual! Have you thought about ranking the vehicles you've tested on Sidewinder/Rattler/etc?
You didn’t tell Ford or B.F. Goodrich you were doing this? That’s insane!!!
These are neat little trucks, I can't wait to see performance mods for them come out. Want to see some little 12 second trucks. I appreciate how affordable they are - you can buy a well equipped XLT for like $25k (if you are patient and order it).
I own a bronco sport but this maverick would be bad ass to have too 🤯
Great test! I wanted to the Maverick to be able to go through this terrain with ease so bad (even though I know it's not built for it) haha, but I ended up getting a Ranger.
I think that log mess up the whole review 💀
I think for the price and mpg and what the truck is capable of doing.. I'm pretty happy with the results.
You can spend another $10,000 to get something more off-road with less mpg Like the tacoma.
So for the price GG To de maverick!!
Much more impressive. these tires will be the first upgrade for me!
Woow beautiful truck congratulations Mr Ryan
IMHO, this will be good for the target market that really want the AWD for snow/slush/ice, getting to a campground/trailhead and pulling small trailer on some light trails or at a slick boat ramp.
Are you going to take it up the old course when there is some snow on the ground?
Great job, once again! Can you tell us how the mileage is with the new tires?
Oh, you just read my mind! Thank you for uploading this review!
By the way, have you tested the Outback Wilderness on this off-road trail?
The more I see of this little truck, the more I like it. Ford knocked the ball out of the park with this little pickup.
Geeat review 👍. I'm looking into purchasing a Maverick myself(the 2.0.). I know it's a slight decrease in fuel economy but, I've watched several of your reviews on this "trucklet " 😉 aaaaand I'm pretty impressed. I'll never see these types of conditions being from SE Georgia but these reviews help immensely with my decision which I believe will be a good one👍🤙.
great vid
Yes! Time to get sad about my Hybrid order again
Just remember: your MPGs are going to be awesome. ;)
@@drivingsports you're right! just so hard to wait for production. thanks for these awesome videos in the meantime!
Once I’m done with school I think this will be my new truck! I’d love a Tacoma but realistically I’m never going to need all that capability. I just need something for the snow. And this thing is way cheaper and super sweet looking.
KEEP THE CONTENT COMING!
Better do your homework. This thing will let you down in deep snow. Better to have the capability, and not need it, than to need it, and not have it.
Great review, so thanks!. Sorry if you've already answered this question, but what is the degrees or % grade on the rattler?
Seems like those tires were the 🗝️. Thanks for the video,
I’ve had my eye on this truck for a while now. Perfect for someone like me towing an atv during hunting season with a Camry because I must have good fuel mileage for my work commute.
As a Subi owner...seems like Ford has made a superior AWD system...which is going to make a lot of Subi fan boys mad
I don't always agree with your conclusion. However, you are always fair and honest.
What this shows is what most owners would do. Maybe a leveling kit also?
This truck meets most requirements for this segment. Tires $800.00 and maybe a $400.00 leveling kit when they become available. Very nice vehicle.
Great review,👍
Our family took my 2000 Explorer 5.0 awd up a nasty trail east of Estes Park, Colorado. I believe it led to some higher elevation camping spots or such years ago. I finally turned around after reaching the top but just crawled going down as I was bottoming at times from the big rocks. After getting down I saw a Subaru AWD starting to go up the trail going 10-15 mph with muffler banging on the rocks etc. The driver didn't care. I couldn't believe it. That was the last time I took our Explorer off road. I just don't like to treat my vehicles that hard but we did manage to take our 2005 Grand Marquis up a 4x4 only road outside Creede, Co this summer on the loop to the Last Chance Mine. I crawled up and it was just fine! I won't be taking my Maverick Hybrid FWD up any of these kinds of roads.
The best tires I've ever owned are falken wildpeak AT3W just a perfect all terrain for my driving style and offroad needs
thanks!
