Wowza, Great presentation! Really enjoyed watch this. Thanks for the background research used in calculating the geometry needed for the build. I know, back to school with all us modelers. At least we all get enjoyment out of it. Your construction methodology is spot on, always nice to see new tricks and tips to creating and building. Thanks Again! Don
@@deansburytownmodelrailway5056 Thanks for your reply . Appreciated . I invite you as well to have a look to my diorama channel . Wish you a nice day .
Absolutely stunning! I love the approach to the chimney construction, the maths, and the execution. The GIANT CHIMNEY really did make me chuckle. I am glad it's not just me that that kind of thing happens to. You have amazing attention to detail, and it was great seeing it all come together. I particularly enjoyed the Inkscape bits too. (Maybe explore the path operations - "Division" would give you the ability to take a slice out of your circle, but the technique you ended up using worked perfectly anyway - that's what I love about the software: it's so versatile. All the best! Michael.
By my calculations that’s several years worth! The design probably took the longest so once you’ve got the hang of the they’ll be going up in no time! Thanks for the comment
Hi Liam - finally caught up with your channel now. Watching you construct your chimney makes me realise how non existent my education was in the 60/70's sadly. Most if not all what you explained went right over my head, but it looks fantastic. The difference between the first chimney and the final one is unbelievable. I can understand why you curve the brickwork, it's how you do it confuses me LOL. Loved the tutorial on putting the chimney together, right up my street, you make it look so easy to do. Explaining what pencils, glue etc you use helps a lot. You would not believe how much effort goes into making a chimney but the end result is fantastic. Regards Chris
Hi! No worries I deliberately skipped over most of the maths as I thought it would take too long and not be that interesting! The curving is done using photo editing software, using a tool called ‘warp’. There are points on the corners and edges of the image that pull that part of the image but leave the rest fixed, hence it needs to be done carefully to avoid over stretching. Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks
Great build Liam, thank goodness for your engineering degree!!! The end result was terrific, I’ve just bought a very detailed chimney kit from Germany which I hope will look good to, fingers crossed, lol! Cheers Liam, John
Absolutely brilliant chimney. Totally worth the time and effort. You clearly have lots of patience. Q: How do you score the paper the wrap them round 90% corners without the paper splitting and showing white? I've tried water paints but struggle to get it to look perfect. Cheers
Thanks! The trick is to score the paper on the reverse before folding. Use a very blunt pin. Also important is good quality matt photo paper which resists splitting.
Hi Peter, thanks for the comment. The tool is a circle cutter and I think I picked it up from The Works, a discount craft type shop. It was around £5 and this was the first time I had used it! I’m sure you can get similar from most craft supplies shops. Thanks
Stretching the brick was very cool
Thanks, yes it worked out well!

Thanks for the kind comment, glad you enjoyed the video and found it useful!
Beautifully done!
Many thanks, glad you like it!
the chimney a very nice touch to the factory maybe a touch of weathering as they were always dirty ................tony
Of course, I’m adding some in the next video, coming soon hopefully! Thanks
This chimney looks great . Excellent craft build . Some inspiration for my own dioramas . Glad to discover your channel . SUbscribed .
Hi glad you liked the video and thanks for the sub! I hope you enjoy the channel, cheers,

Frustums? When I was an apprentice draughtsman I used to love doing this type of excersize along with square to rounds etc, etc.👍
Cheers!

Thanks Micheal, much appreciated. I’ll have a look out for that next time I’m in Inkscape.
really amazing looks so good
many thanks, it was great fun to build!
Very impressive have to give it a go as I have about 50 on my layout to make

Excellent job with the chimney and industrial look. Layout looks great 😀
Thanks very much - just starting the next video, which has another chimney!

Great video 👍🏻🙂
Cheers!
Didn’t realize how powerful Inkscape is
Its very powerful, I barely scratch the surface just drawing a few rectangles!
Very nice modelling, looking forward to the next part.
Thanks Adrian, hopefully be along soon. I’ve made a start on the next part of the build.

Thanks John, much appreciated. Good luck with your kit, will keep an eye out for that. Cheers.

Look Out - Fred Dibnar is on his way
Thanks that reminds me I must finish his Land Rover!
What was that tool you used to cut the card rings? I haven't seen anything like it before.
I enjoyed your video. What was the tool you used to measure and cut out the capping rings? It looks really useful. Where can I get one please?
