I mean, if you watch his normal delivery (first 2-3 pitches covered in the video), you see that his left foot acts as essentially a small pivot motion to contact the rubber. However during the illegal delivery, his left foot leave the ground, and leaves contact with the rubber. This is a case of 1) Ump actually calling it correctly, and 2) Nestor doing something wacky, and it backfiring on him because he established his own natural motion earlier in the at bat.

Nestor Cortez looks like my high school friend’s great auntie’s son who still lived with her in his 40’s. He was quite special. Slept on the couch in the 1 bedroom apartment. He watched old tapes of Beetle Borgs and Gargoyles all day. And ate nothing but Indian TV dinners. Same unsavory mustache.

Nestor starts walking forward and engages with Laz Diaz. Every manager in the game is going to come out and try to be a distraction there, get the umpire to focus on him and separate their player from the situation. Boone was calm and had a quick chat with Diaz, probably just because he was already there.

Yankee fans defending Nestor can cope. Either be good enough to strike out the batters in the same manner and pace as every other pitcher or pitch at your local fields. This is embarrassing. The goddamn Yankees don't need gimmick pitchers with their level of payroll. Hire better pitchers, not quicker ones.

  • @briangervais5962

So if you quick pitch too quick, a thing they can't really make a hard rule about because it's a super fuzzy line, the ump might call you for that lifting of the left foot that every pitcher does as they turn and never gets called. Sometimes baseball feels like that secret card game Mau where we're just trying to make the umps happy.

Well... he DID step back with his right foot. Laz gave away his blunder right there. He got the feet mixed up and truly thought this was a step off.
Also... why do we not have the pitch clock on the tv overlay? If it was below 8 seconds, it doesn't matter if the batter wasn't looking or ready, he's legally required to be alert and ready by then.
