I’m afraid to be at a game when jomboy does a break down lol
just don't pick your nose behind home plate
Eh just don’t sit behind home plate lol
Upper deck tickets are safe.
Just don't go to any Yankee's games and you don't have to worry about it.
Nah man it's on my bucket list
I'm with the ump on this. This absolutely looked like he was stepping off like he was gonna pick off the no one on base.
Weird pitch, and a hard call, but I'm siding with the umpire. This is a ball.
I also think it was a disengagement (reset the pitch clock, etc.). Good catch by the umpire.
Yeah, it looks like it goes up and down, but there is a lot going on there, so I am with the ump.
Especially after he tries this bs windup the pitch before and almost sends a ball into the crowd.
Yes agree. I do like Cortes' quirky pitching - I liked Cueto as well. But ump got this right.
umpires behind the plate can not see the set off the 3b or first base does.
The "wackity-schmackity-doo" 🤣
Beat me to it.
Hit em with the ol’ wackity-schmackity-doo lol
Why more pitchers don't toss that pitch into their arsenal, is beyond me.
:)
The highly technical “WSD” gets ‘em every time
@@LordDarthSmyth I mean, I've seen a dude try it in a more warehous-y setting, can't remember where exactly...
I mean, if you watch his normal delivery (first 2-3 pitches covered in the video), you see that his left foot acts as essentially a small pivot motion to contact the rubber. However during the illegal delivery, his left foot leave the ground, and leaves contact with the rubber. This is a case of 1) Ump actually calling it correctly, and 2) Nestor doing something wacky, and it backfiring on him because he established his own natural motion earlier in the at bat.
The view from behind the plate looked like he stepped off to me. When you do funky stuff like Nestor you have to expect that some umpires are just looking for something to call.
Edit: How did this become a discussion about balks when there isn’t even a runner on base???
honestly from front and behind i still see him stepping off. like, clearly to my eyes, his right foot lands behind the rubber
i agree, he’s over here dancing on the mound 😂
@@UnshavenStatuehis right foot can, that’s just the classic windup since he’s left handed. It’s about his left foot
This pitcher is a goober. Should call all his nonsense as a balk - especially since nobody knows what a balk really is.
@@FHL-Devils It's like Wendy's chicken nugs. Some people see the state of Ohio, some people see a heart. At the end of the day, it's just a chicken nug.

@@curtismann6851 Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.
He for sure did lift his foot off the rubber
where do you draw the line, though? Pitcher after pitcher has a slight break from the rubber, just to get you foot in the right position. Right foot went back and he remained on the rubber as well as most other pitchers. I would be more inclined to go with the quick pitch issue, if anything at all.
@@jeffreyhall8195 lifting his foot off the rubber. That's the line. End.
@@jeffreyhall8195 Pitcher's get away with their foot coming off when they're in a deliberate windup, when you start trying to deceive the batter and break the rules it's a different story.
He also lifted his foot off the rubber in his normal pitch. The big difference is that he did not immediately released the ball in that one, as opposed to the quick pitch
@@jeffreyhall8195 the issue is deception. If you break the rule doing a deliberate act meant to be deceptive to a runner or batter you will get it called. The rule itself is actually just lifting your back foot off the rubber but all the way down to 13U ball you won't get called if it's just about fixing food position for a throw, but you will always get it called when it's part of a deception
3:04 The comparison between the fast pitch and his normal windup shows there's a pretty big difference of just how much he picked his left foot up
Thanks
Did the pitcher pick it up? Doesn't matter HOW MUCH -- just that he did! That's the part that is NOT being concerned with. The 'amount' does NOT matter.
@@warrenholmes3311 Yes this exactly. People arguing like Jomboy that it wasn't much... Just cause they're fans. I love jomboy & other yankee fans but dude, that broke the rules and it was super apparent lol.
@@JonEffinZoidberg I forgot jomboy was a yankee fan! Now it makes sense! I was wandering why he didn’t just hone in on that and make it clear that the pitcher did pick his left foot up off of the rubber. I was literally asking myself “why does it sound like Jomboy is making excuses?” Now I get it and I think I respect him more lmfao I forgot all about him being a Yankees fan and I’m an Astros fan! I know better.
@@JonEffinZoidberg I'm confused. The pitcher lifts his left foot in all three videos. What's the specific rule that's being broken?
That feeling when you don't watch any baseball other than Jomboy content, but you recognize the umpire in the thumbnail. 😂
Lez!
shows how bad umpires are today
@@npestafan except the umpire was right here and everyone knew it which is why boone didn't tell him to be better
“You just got heeeere!” 😂
🤣🤣🤣
I am with the ump on this one.
I feel like from Ump view left foot definitely looks behind the rubber.
Yeah I can see how that one happened.
It was the right foot that went back. The ump just confused which foot went back. The first zoom in JomBoy does shows it clearly while Jomboy inexplicably says "doesn't look like he stepped behind the mound" a few moments later. I think he just said that cuz he's a Yankees fan
@@benjaminmorris4962But he is a lefty from the windup so he can’t step off with his right foot.
@@benjaminmorris4962the right foot is fine to do that. That wouldn’t matter
Is that how you feel?
Aaron Nola and the Phillies had a 3 pitch, 85 second half inning last week. You should do a breakdown of that
WHAT!!!!
I thought he did?
And there was a hit in that same inning
That’s insanely impressive. I need to find any highlights of that innings
@@BrutusJrThe3rd
I think the full inning was posted on CZcams or Twitter. Should be able to find it if you google like “85 second inning” or something
1:16 bro he so clearly stepped off hahaha
We shouldn't be able to see the full cleat there 😂
No, you lift your back foot to pivot. Every pitcher does that. If you step behind the rubber then you've stepped off. Go watch anyone from the windup.
@@jgould30He steps back with his right foot, which is legal for a left-handed pitcher as that’s part of the windup. He would have to step back with his LEFT foot to legally disengage from the rubber.
However, I think it’s BS he’s even trying this. He can’t win normally, so he has to use gimmicks and trickery to compete
@@jgould30 Ok but both feet are off
He did step off. Good call. 🙂
He never stepped off. Foot clearly never left the rubber. Bs call
@@iceman5117 he did leave, but it doesn't matter as almost every mlb pitcher does that. Even so this would still be a ball because, as Jomboy said, it was a quick pitch which is illegal.
@@neixgd he very clearly didn't leave. His next pitch the foot actually left the rubber and the ump never called it. We have no idea if it was a quick pitch, because the ump didn't call a quick pitch. He called a bs leaving the bag
@@iceman5117 "We have no idea if it was a quick pitch" wtf do you mean he clearly quick pitched, also if you can't see the foot leaving the rubber then you're just biased.
Nobody on base, does it really matter?
I remember when throwing the batters timing off meant you threw offspeed pitches. This is backyard wiffle ball crap
Can’t believe you used ‘wiffle ball’ and ‘crap’ in the same sentence! How dare you,Sir?
Thank you.
I've had guys try to fast-pitch me, this is the kind of stuff I saw in goofy casual men's softball with dugout-drinking.
If I was the ump I'd tell Boone "He lifted his foot off the rubber AND he quick pitched him, is this really a hill you want to die on?"
Nestor didn't balk, he traveled.
The pitcher may not take a second step toward home plate with either foot or otherwise reset his pivot foot in his delivery of the pitch. If there is a runner, or runners, on base it is a balk under Rule 6.02(a); if the bases are unoccupied it should be treated as an illegal pitch under Rule 6.02(b).
He only made one step towards home. The bigger issue is he did pull his left foot completely off the rubber.
@@scottkalinec6068 what video did you watch? Dude's left foot came about 3 inches off the rubber.
@@SkunkApe407 what did you read? I said he came off the rubber....
@@scottkalinec6068 no, you asked if his foot came completely off, which implies that you think he didn't.
@@SkunkApe407 what are you talking about. I asked zero questions.
Its a quick pitch. You are not allowed to speed up a pitch with the intent to deceive the batter or catch them off balance in the MLB. 100% that's whats going on. Close Call Sports had the exact language on their channel. Leave it to the Ump to call out the less obvious violation.
Nestor what a goof
That’s a punk ass move as a pitcher
Nestor is a goof ball
“… and that’s baseball”
Pretty much sums it up for me
“T3chnically you’re not allowed to lift your foot” - there you said it
I love that cartoonishly long windup, looks like Bugs Bunny out there on the mound 😂
Is that where he pitches insanely slow and strikes out three batters who somehow managed to all be at the plate at the same time?
Looney Tunes was the best.
I found my first Jomboy video a few weeks ago, been eating up all of them. Insightful and funny. Keep up the good work!
Nestor's dumb ass antics on the mound finally caught up with him? Oh that's a shame.
he got a strikeout
I think Nestor's act is hilarious but I absolutely would be calling him on it all damn day. I don't see how anybody could possibly think otherwise, you Yankees fans are biased as hell.
It's so bush league but it is funny. I wouldn't want it happening on my team though.

From the rear view he definitely lifted his foot off the rubber. I don't know what the means for the actual pitching rules though lol.
Definitely right call by ump. First time I’ve said that in years 😂
It's a weird feeling, right?
It’s always a pleasure to see more of Nasty Leg Nestor.

I’m with the ump on this one, it looks like a step off.
I really appreciate you did the ad at the end, Great Call...
Thanks Jimmy...or whatever your name is for letting me fish in your pool again. This is the best catch Ive had since yesterday!
Jomboy Media, This is great! I liked it and subscribed!
Love ALL of your stuff man!
This is my new favorite channel and I have only watched a whole baseball game start to finish 1 time in my 64 years! How does the algorithm know?
Welcome to The Show
I love the breakdown on why he would swing at the last pitch. Helps us casuals understand. Otherwise it just looks silly. 🙏
The windup before the no pitch was great. Moderately similar to Luis Tiant!!
I’d love to see the reaction if anyone other than a Yankee did this lol
Was at this game. Was very confused when that happened. Thanks for the breakdown!
Just some bush league quick pitch bullcrap.
Every part of jomboys videos, especially the fans are best
Nestor Cortez looks like my high school friend’s great auntie’s son who still lived with her in his 40’s. He was quite special. Slept on the couch in the 1 bedroom apartment. He watched old tapes of Beetle Borgs and Gargoyles all day. And ate nothing but Indian TV dinners. Same unsavory mustache.
Yep! If he was on his own he'd be homeless, I've seen the type.
The fact that you have to go by your interpretation of the rule rather than, you know, THE RULE, says a lot
i have more respect for boone if he came out there and saw the reality of this call, i feel like he was ready to fight for his player a little too hard there, pitcher is wrong here
why is he wrong? Batter was ready, Nestor went through all the motions a pitcher usually goes through, just twice as fast.
Nestor starts walking forward and engages with Laz Diaz. Every manager in the game is going to come out and try to be a distraction there, get the umpire to focus on him and separate their player from the situation. Boone was calm and had a quick chat with Diaz, probably just because he was already there.
Those overlays created a dope font on the jersey!
hahaha the overlay part has me dying
jomboy doing Yankees brakedown what a suprise
As a Yanks fan, Nestor just needs to cut the BS 😂 The wiggle is incredibly hilarious though 🤣
Left foot absolutely came off the rubber about an inch, then back down. Good eyes by the ump.
He does step off
Best part of this breakdown was explaining how he could swing at that last pitch, as a former pitcher, I always have to explain how complex it actually is to people and they still don't get it.
I see you have 'Out of Left Field'. Great book.....
Can you please do a break down on the 3rd inning from Friday night in the Yankees vs Padres game.
Glad to see at least one umpire is calling Nestor on his bullshit
Fun police spotted
Timing disruptions could be utilized, but doing them like this is a clown move. Maybe try being a bit subtle?
I love this channel
Bet we won’t see a breakdown of the Yankees blowing a 3-run lead to the Mariners in the 9th inning though
It's a bush league move
It’s an illegal move and was called as such.
Best sports coverage at this time bar none. I want a free hat.
Need a breakdown of the end of the Guardians and Twins game from Sunday
jomboy do a breakdown of the white sox orioles game ending on may 23rd
ending was very confusing
I LOVE YOU JIMMY
That slow pitch was so ridiculous 😂
Laz got it right. Cortes should cut the gimmick bullshit out of his repertoire.
I agree & I’m a fan. All of this was avoidable
I don't know why Nestor Cortes is allowed these gimmick deliveries. It's not his normal delivery so those pitches should not count according to the rules.
No he shouldn't. He should just not step off next time.
Yankee fans defending Nestor can cope. Either be good enough to strike out the batters in the same manner and pace as every other pitcher or pitch at your local fields. This is embarrassing. The goddamn Yankees don't need gimmick pitchers with their level of payroll. Hire better pitchers, not quicker ones.
No, he needs all these gimmicks so he can be an average pitcher
He stepped off
Nestor's Funky Pitching
Try to get too tricky, win stupid prizes, that's all.
Its nice seeing Corey Julks getting playing time. He deserves it.
You should break down Alex Cora get mad over mound viste
Quick pitch is enough. He never lifted his foot completely off the bag. But quick pitched him, none the less. Let's Go!!
Just pitch the ball.🙄
Nestor being Nestor is so Nestor
I love that he pulled his left foot off the plate twice the next pitch and it didn’t get called
Nasty Nestor! 🤣
Your right foot is not allowed to step behind the mound prior to pitching
Please do a video on what Laz did last night to the Orioles calling a clear strike as a ball!
Hey Jomboy you need to check out bottom of the 2nd inning in yesterday's O's game. The ump changed his mind and I have no idea what happened.
So if you quick pitch too quick, a thing they can't really make a hard rule about because it's a super fuzzy line, the ump might call you for that lifting of the left foot that every pitcher does as they turn and never gets called. Sometimes baseball feels like that secret card game Mau where we're just trying to make the umps happy.
It's an easier call looking from behind the mound than from the plate. I'm actually impressed blue got it.
Im just curious as a non Yankees fan who only watches Nestor when he pitches against my team. Do his antics actually work? Just from my anecdotal evidence he seems to always throw well out of the strike zone when doing it
I think I agree. If he hadn’t lifted his left foot that pitch is legal but I think Nestor did pick that left foot up off the mound
When do we get the Cubs-Pirates 9th inning breakdown
Wackadee-Shmackadee-doooo 😂😂
Doing stuff like that is practically asking the ump to miss calls. The ump probably isn't ready for the pitch either.
Pretty stupid when pitchers try to resort to trickery. Win games because of your skills, not because of your silly antics.
He stepped behind the Rubber mound dohickey; Whatever it is called; and so it LOOKED like he was stepping off. I'd have called shinanigans too! BTW just what IS that rubber pitchers mound thingy called Jomboy?
at full speed looks like he stepped off
I still can't believe he's younger than Shohei Ohtani.
Nester is always trying some shit lol.
I'm hoping to see a breakdown of the NASCAR fight..
Does Jomboy ever do any breakdowns against the Yankees?
Good call by the ump.
The analysis of the audience was more entertaining then the highlight
Well... he DID step back with his right foot. Laz gave away his blunder right there. He got the feet mixed up and truly thought this was a step off.
Also... why do we not have the pitch clock on the tv overlay? If it was below 8 seconds, it doesn't matter if the batter wasn't looking or ready, he's legally required to be alert and ready by then.
Nestor MOST DEFINITELY sent his right foot BEHIND the rubber to help push forward...so his quick pitch would be more effective. He's been learning...practicing...doing...
He did step back. But with his right foot
Which is completely legal.
@rusrockt10 Anyone with eyes can see that his delivery was illegal.
@marklewandowski8474 Stepping off with his right foot is legal. It's literally how every lefty starts their delivery.
Illegal because it is a quick pitch. Placement of feet are exactly the same as normal, legal windup.
Laz is right to call it illegal, but he did it for the wrong reason.
Nestor Cortez is the definition of "I don't think my stuff is good enough to beat you on its own so I'm going to put of a clown show to upset your timing"
Nestor’s left foot broke contact with the rubber. It was quick but contact was broken.
"Hey that looks fun! But wait... this is baseball. Fun inst allowed!"
