That's the problem. A guy can go home and smoke a couple hits of weed and lose their job a week later from a drug test. Another person can do a bunch of coke on a Friday, and get tested on Monday without testing positive. It's a rigged system.

once there is a system to test on the spot for weed, figure out what is a good limit for the average person like they did with alcohol and don't operate anything over that limit. In the olden days, old drivers would tell me how much alcohol it would take to get from here to there. It never was a drug to them. ALCOHOL IS A DRUG. I drove my whole career cdl 42 years. No accidents or tickets, I found that it caused me a more careful cruise because it changed my altitude towards that of "ill get there when I get there" That's been. My experience smoken driver.

They don’t test you alcohol impairment before you drive , and nothing is stopping anybody from doing so, people choose not to , so why test marijuana ? Simply test if you have an accident, you will be tested to see if at that time you were impaired, which can be tested through the blood , so simply test the driver if an accident happens and the blood test will tell you how long ago the driver smoked
I’m a trucker DOT did a study back when California legalized weed. Study was sleepy, drunk and high drivers and put them on a road corse. Turns out the high drivers were the least dangers but were bad at maintaining track speeds. Surprisingly most dangerous were sleepy drivers by far.

Firemen in pa are exempt from having to get a cdl. Which i believe is bullshit. I myself drive for a city public works. And i have a cdl. I also failed a test from not smoking on the job. But had to pay lots of money for sap program. This whole system is messed up. I don’t smoke no more now. Just because i need my job. But go figure now i drink like a fish. But thats ok. I really hope they can change this so i can quit drinking and go back to smoking. Makes me a way better person

There is no reason to try and make a cannabis impairment test because it's a) impossible, and b) not the issue. Cannabis is like a spice. It's just spicy in a different way. Everyone has a unique tolerance. Some people can consume huge amounts of cannabis with no noticeable effect. The underlying issue is simple: Impairment. Regardless of whether it's weed, or booze, or coffee, or prescription pills, or a cell phone, or a dog in your lap, whatever. If you're not focused on the road, you shouldn't be driving.
There are more accidents because the people in the four wheelers can’t drive. All they know is two speeds floor it and stop. Change that thinking and you might get some where.

In the UK weed Vs your ability to drive is done with a roadside mouthswab by the police. This determines whether or not you have recently used, as opposed to "have used at some point". But even this isn't necessarily a determination of impairment, rather a guess based on whether you smoked recently enough for a bad swab result.
I've been going through the return to study sap program. Getting a driving job with this on your record is a complete joke, almost impossible. I wasted my money and should have just went into a new field that actually appreciates it's workers.

I'm going to be honest, I have an medical Marijuana card and I've been a daily smoker for over a decade and I've driven 18 wheelers and operated heavy equipment without any problems. I will say that you have to pay attention and not get distracted, I can see how some people would be a danger to themselves or others because it affects some people differently. I know for a fact that some of us can use cannabis and safely operate equipment.

Someone is going to get rich if they can create a test that tells how long ago someone used. Until then a field sobriety test should be sufficient. If they can walk, talk and react well then they are most likely safe to drive
i live in NYS and it is recreational legal here. i have made decent money in trucking (local milk hauling) and i can easily make 100k+. im going to pay off our 2 credit cards and my car loan, so all i have left is my mortgage and living expenses. if at the point im paying less bills and if the government doesnt STOP making me piss in a cup, i think i will be done with trucking. i do believe change is coming soon, but if it doesnt im not going to stay in this industry forever. i got my CDL in 2016.
Im switching from Cdla to hvacr. Pay isn't keeping pace with inflation. As an hvac tec, i can partake in marijuana on my off time, the pay is better, and the work is less dangerous.

Cannabis is like a spice. It's just spicy in a different way. Everyone has a unique tolerance. Some people can consume huge amounts of cannabis with no noticeable effect.
The underlying issue is simple: Impairment. Regardless of whether it's weed, or booze, or coffee, or prescription pills, or a cell phone, or a dog in your lap, whatever. If you're not focused on the road, you shouldn't be driving.

There are more accidents because the people in the four wheelers can’t drive. All they know is two speeds floor it and stop. Change that thinking and you might get some where.

In the UK weed Vs your ability to drive is done with a roadside mouthswab by the police. This determines whether or not you have recently used, as opposed to "have used at some point". But even this isn't necessarily a determination of impairment, rather a guess based on whether you smoked recently enough for a bad swab result.
Makes no sense , as long as I’m not smoking on the clock , I should be able to smoke, and smoking a joint 12 or more hours ago isn’t impaired
I've been going through the return to study sap program. Getting a driving job with this on your record is a complete joke, almost impossible. I wasted my money and should have just went into a new field that actually appreciates it's workers.
It's not impossible there's plenty of companies that'll higher you im in talks with a local company wanting to hire me as soon as I get my RTD status.
Also I can’t get a job when I tell them I’m a sap driver . Even when I tell them it was for cannabis.

I've been smoking for 46 years. I hadn't smoked marijuana for 8 months and still testing positive. I do walk in volunteering testing with lab Corp. Even though it's voluntary, if they find out i have a cdl, it goes on my DAK file. Crazy

Alcohol is far worse and should be held to the same standard as marijuana if a joint after work can get you fired a beer after work should get you fucking fired
It’s not so much if the federal government takes it off of schedule one more so your company has the right to refuse you employment if you’re caught using. That’s the worry. Marijuana can be legal AF in every state of the country but if your company says, sorry you can’t drive if you are a user, then that’s their prerogative and you’re looking for another job.
I'm going to be honest, I have an medical Marijuana card and I've been a daily smoker for over a decade and I've driven 18 wheelers and operated heavy equipment without any problems. I will say that you have to pay attention and not get distracted, I can see how some people would be a danger to themselves or others because it affects some people differently. I know for a fact that some of us can use cannabis and safely operate equipment.

This is such bullshit. “Currently no tests to determine marijuana impairment.” It’s called Saliva test man! Detects THC 1 to 24 hours of use, which also means a driver would have to be responsible as far as when he or she uses it before going on the road.
If you can drink alcohol after long hard days of work you should be able to smoke a joint. You will feel more rested next day no hangover. In Canada Truckers can smoke they got saliva test it's 2024.

Someone is going to get rich if they can create a test that tells how long ago someone used. Until then a field sobriety test should be sufficient. If they can walk, talk and react well then they are most likely safe to drive

i live in NYS and it is recreational legal here. i have made decent money in trucking (local milk hauling) and i can easily make 100k+. im going to pay off our 2 credit cards and my car loan, so all i have left is my mortgage and living expenses. if at the point im paying less bills and if the government doesnt STOP making me piss in a cup, i think i will be done with trucking. i do believe change is coming soon, but if it doesnt im not going to stay in this industry forever. i got my CDL in 2016.
If I can be trusted as an adult to not drink alcohol I should also be trusted not to smoke weed while driving. 🙄
Im switching from Cdla to hvacr. Pay isn't keeping pace with inflation. As an hvac tec, i can partake in marijuana on my off time, the pay is better, and the work is less dangerous.

There has to be a way truck drivers can fight this. The effects of marijuana wear off after a couple hours, and it is not fair and you should be able to sue your company if they fight you.

I was shocked to see this video. People first need to learn how to drive all types of vehicles. I sick of fighting for my life on the road for no reason. Also. My brother was over the road trucker in the 90s. One company he drove for ran all drives hard. Today, drivers couldn't handle it. Everyone in that company was on Cocaine. He himself. Never touched it. Yet. My dad, my brother, and I. When we all had our CDL. Driving truck. Running not a log book. 3 log books. None stop driving. Taking a nap here and there. None of us to this day, even. Has touched narcotics.
I know so many drivers that snort coke Friday and Saturday so they can go to work Monday and be clean.
They need to come out with a test that is instant, like an alcohol test. Drivers should be able to smoke on their time off, on the other hand… there should be a 0 Tolerance for weed while driving.

Impact on drivers and companies? I know once it was finally legalized in my state, I found other work. I don’t like that other work, I’d rather be driving. I’m excellent. High work ethics, I would never drive impaired by anything.

funny i have been high as hell since i started driving i just recently quit smoking to be a truck driver. i have never ever ever been in a accident. i have actually drove my way out of other stupid drivers fuck ups while high as a kite. are yall looking for bad drivers to get them high and test their ability to drive while high? i've been doing it for over twenty years. only one time that i ate a hemp bar that i was actually too high to drive and i got the hell off the road. on my own accord. safely may i say. learned my lesson not to eat a eatable while driving after that. but smoking blunts and bowls and joints never had a problem.
Rather it was legal or not people have been using marijuana,just because it's legal hasn't changed if people were driving high or not politicians ,and people even talking on the issue are ignorant to the fact people have been getting high
