    @LMacNeill Před 2 lety +87

Ford really should've named this the Model E. Like the Model T that was the first mass-produced car, this car is the first mass-produced *electric* car. (Ok, its not the *first,* technically, but priced as it is, and as comparatively well-built as it is, it could easily be the one that makes electric cars finally catch on with the masses.)
Further, Ford has owned the Model E name since the early 20th century, so it's been around forever. Tesla wanted to name their Model 3 the Model E, but Ford owned it and wouldn't sell Tesla the right to use the name. Wouldn't it be a wonderful "fuck you" to Tesla from Ford, if Ford were to use the name "Model E" for their first mass-produced electric vehicle! :-)
Yeah, Mustang Mach E is not the name they should've gone with. Had I been on the Ford marketing team, I would've pushed for Model E instead.

I have Calif 1 edition. I like it a lot. Had it for 4 months now. In colder Temps realize your range will drop especially if you use high heat setting. I keep mine at 69 degrees. I had installed 240 outlet and switched to time of use with my utility. The reason why tires aren't wider is to get better range. In the summer I was getter arnd 305 plus now arnd 240. Since I travel leas than 75 miles a day no problem. I don't let battery go below 20% or charge higher then 80% unless going on long trip.

Sarah, normally, with 1-pedal driving mode, the braking lights are managed by an accelerometer and not just when you release the pedal. Therefore, the flashing would not occur.
If I remember well, the regulation requires the braking lights to turn on with a 0,12G deceleration. Obviously, the lights also turn on if you press the brake pedal.
On electric cars, a very light pressure on the brake pedal often activates the regeneration and thus, some deceleration without having to activate the friction brakes.
    Have a nice day.

there's a coolant system in EVs too, the active shudders aren't JUST for AC. The glass roof doesn't have a slidy because of the reason you have a glass roof: the floor is all batteries so you sit up higher, but you want the car to have as small a frontal area as possible (thus shorter is better) for aerodynamic efficiency. Thus the reason so many EVs have glass roofs is to have more interior space, as metal roofs & padding are thicker.

It seems like to me that young marketers do not care about a brand's heritage anymore (for the most part).
Another example of this is the Acura NSX that was originally a light-weight, low-tech, inexpensive, driver-connected sports car that morphed into a very high-tech, very expensive, disconnected one. Another is the just released Acura Integra which is basically what this generation of Honda Civic should have been but it no Integra.
One new example of honoring a model's heritage done right is the upcoming Nissan Z.
Sadly, I think the marketers what do what they did with the Mach-E and the Acuras do so just because they know people are passionate for brand and think that giving a car that name will instantly earn it fans and sales. It's really sad.

You say there are no charging stations "here" (in the middle of nowhere) but I look and see power lines over the road. The electric infrastructure has had 120 years to develop and it is hard to find places without power lines. The charging stations are just the last little detail. The generation and transmission of electricity is already in place and it is just a matter of time until chargers are everywhere.

Very interesting EV. It looks okay, I guess. BUT, a total deal breaker for me is that fugly giant pad-like screen in the middle of the dash. Why not incorporate it more pleasantly into the dash? It just looks like a complete afterthought stuck on with velcro or tape. Also, all that extra mass of the giant brakes and wheels from a real Mustang is totally counterintuitive to the whole EV concept (light, efficient, etc.). This vehicle is trying to portray too many identities and that's a recipe for failing at each of them rather than being superior at one focused design effort. And don't even get me started on the naming of this thing. I own a Mustang GT and that car is and always was about the whole experience (the sound, the looks, the driving experience). Ford, lose the horse emblems and call it the Mach-E. Great review! Thanks.

Ford applied the Mustang moniker in an attempt to garner attention from the people who like the idea of the Mustang, but would never seriously consider buying one.
The four doors and dug wagon body style are the practical consideration. The electric drive system is the novelty aspect.
Put bluntly, this is an attempt to borrow some emotional appeal from one product and slather it onto a totally different thing.

Having the brake lights go on when the car is slowing down sharply via regeneration is not weird at all. It's totally necessary. You are going to get rear ended a lot if your car is too stealthy about the fact it is rapidly decelerating. And if you are on/off the go pedal enough to make the brake lights flash, your passengers, if any, are going to feel like bobble-head dash ornaments. Drive an EV with strong regen for a while, and your foot/brain will soon learn to modulate the pedal so that you are driving smoothly. It gets to be as natural as skillfully engaging a clutch. Muscle memory takes care of the details, and you don't have to think about it at all.

Cant wait till you get a f150 lighting to review
If you combined your wind turbine idea, where instead of a tow behind it was built into the grill of the e car, and placed anywhere else they could like those vents up front for the a/c, and replaced that voyer roof with solar panels, you wouldn't get a charge from it that would top you off, but you would get more range, might not be much, but on one of these, every little bit counts. And solar panels could actually give you a decent amount when its parked outside all day. Again not a full charge, but if it could add even 20% over the course of a day, that is less time you have to charge at night, and less money that costs you in your electric bill.

When you were saying that this is 'click bait' because of the name that you're not gonna use which I decided I wasn't gonna use from the get go,the other farce is with the fuel efficiency/ juice efficiency.
This might be a 0 emissions vehicle but it's not a 0 impact to the environment vehicle.
If they were honest enough to actually figure in the formula for its efficiency they'd have to figure in what your electric bill is gonna do and what the impact from from fossil fuel and coal refineries to generate the electricity to get the power to where you're gonna plug it in.
Unfortunately wind and solar energy have their impact that is significant enough that when these components that need to be disposed of to be able to drive an electric car they're worse than not driving the electric car at all and using a fuel efficient fossil fuel car whether it's natural gas propane gasoline gasoline diesel or ethanol.
