I live and have lived in New Mexico my entire life. It is a place unlike anywhere else. You see things drawn and built by people that are so old you can feel it. We know so little about our history. These pieces of the past only tease us with their haunting beauty. I've walked all over my home and am still in awe that I'm lucky enough to live here. I've seen paintings in Bandolier that resemble dinosaurs and things from the sky shining down on figures like some of these. You can feel the sorrow when the people met the christian missionaries. The art after that is almost painful to view. Go down one valley and up the other side and there are the remaining parts of mountain lions carved in stone. I hope we never lose what is left. I lived at what for me was a ten minute walk from petroglyphs as a child and I never understood how anyone could deface something like them so easily and with no remorse.

Right around the time the Southwest imploded and the Anasazi civilization fell...and the remnants migrated and became what we call the Ancestral Puebloan Peoples today...The Hohokom as well imploded around this time too...very advanced society with amazing construction and artifacts right where Phoenix is today...they as well became the O'odham peoples. Both of these amazing Mesoamerican cultures became something completely different around this time....The Fremont too, right at their apex of development, also imploded and they abandoned the Southwest. Yes I can but some are rather metaphysical and difficult to describe. My wife and I bought a house outside Prescott Arizona in the early 1990's and unbeknownst to us there were extensive Indian ruins at the top of the hill behind the house. It was made up of many rock walls that were constructed in such a way as to create several rooms. (approx. 12 rooms) I was always attracted to the site and would periodically climb up the hill and look for pottery shards and explore the walls and trails. Ther strange thing about the site that in what appeared a communal area there was a hole about 6 feet in diameter and deep enough that if you fell in you would not be able to climb out. We had a sliding bedroom door that faced away from the hill and one night my wife and I were laying in bed reading and we both started hearing what I can only describe as a mixture of singing and chanting. I asked my wife if she heard it and she said yes. So I got out of bed and went outside and as I turned the second corner of the house where I could see up the hill the music, which was quite loud now, suddenly quit. So I went back to bed and a few minutes later the sound started again and we both lied there for several minutes and eventually the noise stopped. The next morning I went to let the dog out the back door and just outside the door was a pile of pottery shards. I still have them to this day 30 years later. @@Green0lives

They remind me of australian aboriginal petroglyphs. Same in many ways.
I had a dream about one. Woke up, and drew it. Saw it on a rock. Same.

Maybe it is the time washing some of the lines away, but some of these art pieces have really neat artistic expressions and the one shown at 1:05 is like a movie poster of some fantasy/scifi movie.
I wonder what those artists would have created on paper or on digital devices.
Also the one in 1:45 depicting a snake is astounding

wow, when I saw the thumbnail I was sure that the "southwest" being referred to was the SW Australia (or more specifically the south west of Western Australia, the state). Those pictographs shown bear a stunning resemblance to cave paintings of the Nyoongar people, of but representing as the oral history says they are paintings of the Quinkins (a mysterious lost tribe that became something of a boogey man myth). Amazing resemblance.

We can't really know for sure, but a plausible interpretation is a Kachina (a spirit being or god in the Puebloan religion--see the Kachina figures produced by later Puebloan peoples) sending migratory birds and deer for them to hunt.

Absolutely love everything about this. History of the world is so fascinating to me, the prehistoric mound builder culture of North America, the Bog people of Florida , ancient cultures from all over the globe from Egyptian to America to Chinese (Terracotta Army) its all mind boggling the foresight people had to document their lives .

Thankyou for collecting all of these and grouping them together in one video for people to watch. I’m amazed at the depictions of these “other-worldly” beings, they have this resonance about them like you get the sense your seeing what they witnessed and that it was very important to them. Thankyou so much. 👍
