    To choose the color of their team in Buenos Aires, they said that it will be the color of the first ship that will come on the port. The first ship carried a Swedish flag 🇸🇪 and that why Boca Juniors have blue and yellow as their color 😁

    Fun fact: the Argentinian soccer team Boca Juniors (very famous in the soccer/football world) is blue and yellow because of the Swedish flag. the history says that around 1907 the team owners were discussing what colors to use, they came to an agreement to use the ones in the flag of the first ship that would come to the buenos aires port, that ship came from Sweden :)

Erik just cuts down a few trees on a small scale, so that law would not apply. But he's definitely a cool guy, and seems conscientious.

    6:36 a small correction; Småland translates to Small Lands because historically the region had many small "countries" or earldoms.
    Interesting fact! During the Swedish Liberation War of Gustav Vasa, a farmer by the name of Nils Dacke started an uprising against the later king of Sweden because of high taxes on farmers and seizing of precious metals and gemstones from the catholic churches by the protestant central power. The province during this time called itself Dackeland (after the leader of the rebellion) and could have become an independent country if things had gone a little different. The king Gustav Vasa is reported to have said about Nils Dacke that he was "worse than a heathen and a jew", and his decapitated head is supposed to have been stuck on a pole and displayed in Dackes home village (although this is disputed, as some claim he fled Sweden for Brandenburg where he supposedly had relatives).
    Great episode as always Barbs!

    I heard "I only tried snus by accident " and I already knew what was going to happen. In the American southeast, people leave their "dip cans/bottles" everywhere. I'm lucky I've never drank any but I've had a few close calls. That crap is worse than 3 month old bong water🤢

    The three crowns stand for 3 kingdoms united: Svealand, Västra Götaland and Östra Götaland. The "powerhouse" of that time.
    Then you add Norrland (added later) and Skåneland (often warred over with Denmark trough the centuries) and you got Sweden

    I´m proud to be from the province of Småland! We have our own national day which is on the first thursday of March, or "fössta tossdan i mass" in our dialect. On that day we get to eat marzipan cake (massipantååta) and celebrate the fact that we don´t pronounce the "sh" sound in all these words.

    • @ciprianocarrasco5832

    If Småland means "Small People's Land", does that mean the Swedes were dissing the Geats when they named the place?

    • @thehoogard
      @thehoogard Před 2 lety +2

      It's not the "small people's land", but the "small lands", referring to the fact that the region was made up of many smaller counties, I guess. So the "Small lands" would be a better translation, not unlike the Netherlands.

    And they’re all super addicted to it

      And every dude in Finland who wants to consume snus or resale/"retail" it in Finland travels to either Haparanda which is a town between the border of Sweden and Finland in Tornionjokilaakso (translated: Downstream valley of Tornio River) in the northeast Sweden and imports it in Finland or they board to a cruise ship that sails between Stockholm and Turku/Helsinki to do the same thing when the ship exceeds the border of the countries.
      This is because snus is illegal to be sold in Finland but it is allowed to consume it.
