  • Here's this weeks ASMR version of this video: • Throwing and Trimming ...
    As always, thanks for watching! Especially this time, it's been a while since I've done any throwing with larger amounts of clay, especially firmer lumps like this. For more of an explanation about the process please do click on over and watch the narrated version.
    Timestamps:
    0:00 - Throwing the bowl
    3:48 - Trimming the bowl
    7:52 - Trimming the interior foot well
    11:20 - Trimming the rim
    13:13 - Final clean up of the foot ring
    I throw using a Rohde HMT500 potter's wheel and for the most part use Bison trimming tools.

    A magnificent piece! Thanks for posting. I find that throwing pieces as large as this is exhausting… centering and pulling so much clay is very strenuous for me.

    Just found your videos on recommended. I only took a pottery class in college, but it was fun. Maybe I'll try again just for fun! Watching you work I can almost smell the clay and feel it as well. Very relaxed now, thank you!

    I can’t get over how dry the clay sounds yet seems so easy to trim without getting any chattering!

    Florian, I have trouble keeping my keys from getting loose while trimming. I press them in tight and use clay that is firmer. Do you have this problem and how do you solve it?

  • @abhaypatil87
    @abhaypatil87 Před 2 lety +1

    How do you remove the piece off the wheel without deforming it? Do you wait until it's dry or do you use heat-gun to speed up the process? I am curious.

    So if like a hair stand falls in there. Is it better to let it burn on the kiln or take it out. Possibly noticing after it's been dried? I guess my question is how bad would it be if I didn't notice it.

    Do you prefer working with a harder clay when throwing a large bowls ?

    • @floriangadsby
      @floriangadsby  Před 2 lety +2

      No! It just so happened the clay left in the bag was pretty firm but I much prefer softer stuff for bowls like this, hard clay makes centring a pain.

  • @livingforyahuah_watchwoman4870
