    NOTES
*1 COMPARISONS OF UNREVIEWED GEAR : Please don't ask me how a product compares to another which I haven't reviewed, as it isn't possible to comment on such products I haven't tested. Check out my website for reviews of products I have completed instead (hit the review tag, and separate tags).
*2 MORE ADVICE : If you are asking me how does X product compare to Y that I HAVE reviewed, or how does something sound beyond comment in videos, or system / further advice, please sign up to Patreon (small amounts!) or make contributions via PayPal where we text chat or Zoom etc. I can't answer all questions free on CZcams! I only charge £25 for an hour consultation on Zoom of all my experiences.
*3 ABUSE POLICY : I encourage and like debate, and constructive criticism, but people who abuse or troll me, or my subscribers or commenters, post very negative and non constructive and uncorroborated comments designed to put me or others down (where they don't explain themselves), or they could be perceived as such, as well as aggressive comments / hate, or pit my subscribers against me, get their comments removed and I hide them from commenting again. I don’t need the hassle of these people for all the work I put in! Again I don’t mind people who disagree with me, where they explain, or indeed debate, but I tend to delete comments that are not substantiated where the poster doesn’t explain themselves eg just ‘this amp is really bad’ as it doesn't add to the discussion

Thank you. I really liked this review. I ordered 3 on them for my front home theater LCR speakers. For the money I think they are quite good. My emotiva XPA Gen 3 gives the 275 watts.

I have had mine Arendal 1723 bookshelves for 2 months now and I agree 100% with you. I'm very happy with them. But I have an arendal 1961 1s sub to take care of the bass. What a sound! So full

Thank you for reviewing these. So few out there have really taken the time with them. Wish I’d waited a bit and seen this, as what you described is what I would look for as well. I ended up with a great deal on some Spendor classic 4/5’s for my small(ish) listening room. They really hit that mark in many ways - albeit designed to resonate 🙏🏼

Arendal is impressive. I have had their 1723 S2 subwoofer, in my system, for a while now. This sub replaced a pair of REL T7i subs I had...and the single Arendal sub absolutely destroys the pair of RELs. It is great for both 2 channel listening and home theater. Good stuff!

Glad to see that the direct selling model is catching on. I have the Buchardt a500 SEs and have enjoyed the direct selling experience. Interesting that this company even gives you more time to evaluate than Buchardt does (60 vs 45).
    Nice review, Simon.

Electronic music is my primary listening preference. It was great to finally hear someone proclaim a love for this music in their reviews. This has given me great confidence and a better understanding of how the speakers would sound and perform to my ears.
A fast speaker should bode well for any style of music. I would think slower performance would muddy the overall sound.
Ott is an excellent musician. Thanks for spotlighting him and others.

I just bought my long-held fantasy loudspeaker from a small American direct seller (Salk Sound) who build their units _to order_ and _by hand._
They use RAAL 64-10 tweeters, and they’re my Big New Obsession.
I’ve been buying audio stuff directly since 2010, and I only wish I had more cash to contribute to this brilliant market

Direct sellers building content on CZcams makes sense to build trust with an audience, add value, explain exactly what their products do, and tapping in to the same market that will go to dealers.

Im looking into getting a pair of these, but the sensitivity does make me think twice.

Thanks for the review mate. Would love to know how superior the larger 1723 standmounts in MTM configuration are to these smaller bookshelves. I was thinking of either those or the s400 MK2's, but if these smaller 1723's are already favourable in a lot of areas in comparison to the Buchardts, it makes you wonder how good the big 1723 standmounts are...

Thank you so much for comparing these with the buchard's, because I'm coss-shopping these.
I do listen to 50% "slow" music though, are the arendals still good with that?
I'll be pairing them with a subwoofer and I'm confused which to get. Currently I've the arendal 1961 bookshelves. I really like them, but I do feel that the mids are lacking a bit.
I heard that the 1723's improve on that.

Very helpful comparisons, thanks! Though, I'm surprised you found the PMC's to be in such a higher category than the Arendal's... I found the PMC Twenty5 series to have almost zero soundstage depth or layering... a very disappointing 2-dimensional and flat soundstage no matter what amp or speaker placement I messed around with.

    • @13thnotehifireviews7
      @13thnotehifireviews7  Před 10 měsíci +2

Thanks too, I’ve never reviewed by just my preference and I felt the pmcs do have soundstage but it’s all relative. The pmcs have more dynamic range, transient attack and resolution and are faster with bass and bass dynamics and more precise. The arendal are bigger sounding with better staging. These are qualities, on balance, that make the PMC speakers better as I think more will prefer them which is how I review. Of course taking account of suitability for the right room and use cases , size etc. otherwise if I just say it’s preference nothing can be better than anything else and that’s not a fair way to review. It may play to individual bias but I’ve never done that. 😀👍

Hey Simon, my interest in hifi began after I bought a pair of KEF Q150s. It was a bit of a revelation that speakers could make such a difference. I also owned a pair of Q350s that I loved. I'd like to ask you because you're so straightforward with your opinion of gear. I truly don't understand what is appealing about the KEF LS50s. I actually hated the way they sound. I know they get excellent reviews. What is it that you like about them?

It's really important to help inform people how much distributors and retailers make vs how much manufacturers make. Happens across many (most?) industries and it's just criminal that someone who makes something could make less than a store that sells it. It's just plain wrong. I love dealing direct whenever I can.
