    I think it's possible that Magnus could've had it in his notes but I think he played it because of Hikaru.
    Hikaru's return to classical chess represents a revival of his love of the game and you gotta love the game to keep improving at it.
    I would attribute Hikaru's recent success to that renewed love of the game and I think Magnus recognized that and was inspired to play that line as a result.

      i'm not sure i understood the question entirely, but the difference between rapid and classical is huge in GM games. Analysing the position and calculating, when you are this good, can take 30+ mins. Just look at Grischuck as an example, he frequently have a 40+ min move in a classical game. ofc you can't do this here.

    • @DukesAPG

    • @Wlept
      @Wlept Před 2 lety

      @@DukesAPG it also affects the move you play. In rapid, a GM can try to attack or sacrifice a bit more 'cause finding the perfect defense/refutation might be really tough in 15min games, while in classical the opponent could think forever and refute your sacrifice. Doesn't mean that they randomly sac and attack obviously, but it's likely to happen a bit more i think

    That's not pin of shame worthy, is it? Sorry, I just can't. Like I can't keep blundering my queen. As a 1800 rated player. Yeah. It happens. @@mariomoneta2833 Maybe... But I'm a casual player and have never played on street or any tournament, and I'm rated 1600... So I guess there might be many "casual" players who are above 1500. In that case, 1200 might still seem below average.
