Seeing themselves as "empaths" is a way too boost their self-eestem or overcompensate something which they are lacking. No grudges. Everyone has his/ her problems, but thinking of oneself as an "empath" is quite often sign of the opposite. It sounds grandious.
See someone who has a high IQ isn't very likeable if he/ she feels the need to boast about it all the time, but it isnt contradictory as insecurity or arrogance are both compatible with high intelligence. However someone boasting about how supremely empathetic they are isnt only not likeable its contradictory to the image they want to project of themselves as if you were really highly emotionally sensitive you would have seen the problem and never thought of putting a label on yourself called "empath".

He should write a book on how he judges endgames. There's often a bunch of things you could do, like cutting the king off, or attacking the pawn chain from the back, or getting a piece to a better spot. He should explain why one option is better than the other, and how he judges that kind of stuff. I often have no idea why one move is better than another. They both just seem like excellent moves to me, and they are, but I have no idea why one is better.

    1. Why u love chess/ why its beautiful. (could be personal, or touch on points. i love chess bc every time i come to a crest in my understanding i get to look out on the expanse of stuff that i dont yet understand, i like thinking about the degrees of understanding that can be achieved. Like how the best play is far better than the second best player.)
    2. Chess Computers (how strong can they possibly get, what’s the chess base limit, what are the different algorithms based on)
    3. What is the future of chess? (Computers, as a sport, post queens gambit)

Your explanation of what he does is only possible because you know a lot and can see how it fits together. Finding ways to do it in your own game is a leap that a lot (if not all) of us need to do to really put our knowledge to work. GM Larry Christianson (sp) said we all have greater theoretical knowledge than we can demonstrate. Some do it better. Great video. Thanks.

It would be very interesting and instructive to see an analysis of Magnus playing the top engines. Watching his games against mere mortals, it’s hard to imagine him not being able to win or at least hold his own against them, but I know this is not the case, and that in reality he would lose every game.

    • @Guy_With_A_Laser

I imagine Magnus probably knows enough theory that he could maneuver the engine into a "boring" drawn endgame and hold, at least as white. The top players rarely play engines publicly though. Hikaru has a few games against Komodo (sometimes with odds) that are pretty interesting, but it's also clear that he's playing a very different style than his normal play.

To me, this recalls the memory of playing my father as a kid. Always trying to play very solid, theory like moves I wasn´t really sure of at the time. But he would crush me like a bug the same way Carlsen crushes here. I guess it was by being passive at that time (I didn´t know what to play) and not attacking which I do a whole lot nowadays. Iˇve beaten him recently in a Scandinavian defense where he slightly miscoordinated his pieces in the opening (or I thought he did) and i somehow got down a piece but came up with a knight fork out of nowhere winning my rook back because how his king was placed. That is why you should always play your own style of chess. Like I only play my own variations that I can understand in like Center game or Caro -kann and not some Ruy Lopez I don´t resemble that much about. Because you know when you play something deep with a lot of understanding, there´s gonna be someone who knows even more than you do. And that is I think the lesson here. I wonder how many people found out about chess the same way i did playing against my dad. Just my sincere opinion.
