I’ve often fallen asleep better on barely comfortable couches than my bed!

I worked nights for 3 years partly through the pandemic, worst lifestyle ever for me. I developed a very unhealthy bed association. Couldn’t sleep while the world was on lockdown, noisy, stressed. No quality sleep. Took a long time to readjust.

The biggest problem I have is sleeping on the side. I got used to a lotta pillow, to stop me from rolling on my stomach. But that also mean that I sleep in weird positions that cause neck pain or shoulder pain when I wake up. I don't know what to do

I actually hear that a lot in clinic. Its more common than you think. That is why its best to go a head and get ready for bed before you lie on the couch!

Doctor, can you do a video on how to fall back to sleep if you are waken up by noise? I have neighbors that get up to go to work at 4-4:30 AM, and they always wake me up. I have real trouble falling back to sleep after they wake me up- it might take 3-4 hours for me to do so, and by then I have to get up to go to work. How can I train myself to fall back to sleep sooner? PLEASE???

Use your phone or laptop to listen to "Brown noise" or a "box fan" video through ear buds. There are many 10 hour versions. It literally blocks out all outside noises. Find the right volume level and you will sleep like a ROCK all night long without hearing anything to wake you up. It has literally changed my life. It will help you.

I have two additional reasons, but I am sure there are many possible reasons.
Maybe once in bed we are trying to fall asleep, but on the couch we aren't trying. So less pressure on ourselves may make it easier to sleep on the couch.
Also... if I doze on the couch, I think it might mess with my sleep cycle a bit. I might wake up from that nap feeling a bit refreshed, so it might be hard to get back to sleep a short time later.

Try a soft mattress. Everyone says firm but they probably have not even tried a softer mattress
