Czech Republic was perhaps the only team that fully respected Greece as an opponent and gave their best from the very first minute. I doubt that France, Spain and Portugal did the same in their games against Greece. Judging by the chances the Czechs created they could had defeated us even by 4-0 but since they didn't converted their chances we believed that we make it which each passing minute
@@poutsamouni5483 Portugal was cursed in the final. I made my first bet that Greece wins the final with 1-0. I never forget this semi final because of the chances from Czech Republic and that corner where the goal came from wasn’t a corner, and it was already over time.
Tbf to the Czechs they had the best functioning offense in the tournament by far. Watching these highlights compared to Portugal, they were actually getting attempts off in the box while the latter had Greece under pressure much of the game but was taking mostly long shots.
I know that we didnt play the most exciting football etc,but i remember it was a month or so before the final round of 2004 EURO starts , i was walking down a street and i caught a glimpse of a TV showing some highlights from qualifiers and there was a highlight of a team with white shirts exchanging passes and then doing some dribbling and scoring a really nice goal against Spain. And i remember it like it was yesterday. I was thinking to myself "Damn that team looks so good, Is that France or something?" then the camera zooms in and it is a close up of the scorer ,Stelios Giannakopoulos. Couldn't believe it that Greece could deliver such quality football. It was unlike everything i ve ever seen from our national team. I get it that to most it looked borign etc etc. But it was herculian leap from what i thought it was our standards.
Czech Republic was the best team of Euro 2004. They should have won the whole thing. They played brilliant football. A shame that they never hit those heights again.
@@marcotaprootczech were clearly the best team in that euro 2004. Portugal came 2nd. But again Greece show us you need more than that to win the tournament.

In my opinion Czech Rep. had the best team in Euro 2004, full of talent and experience. But the high morale of the Greek players and the favor of luck gave the qualification to Greece. I knew from the moment we eliminated the Czech Republic in the semifinals that the trophy was ours. Greetings from Greece my friend
@@tsampamagkas5728 agreed. Czech Republic was genuinely scary. The likes of Cech, Rosicky, Nedved, Smicer, Baros. That team was something else. Netherlands, Portugal, Czech and Greece were the final 4 and although Netherlands and Portugal were the household names, Czech was genuinely the strongest team left imo and I thought they would batter Greece. But if the Greeks can eliminate that Czech team, then they absolutely deserved the trophy!
Czech republic was definetly the best team in 2004. As a greek, i can't believe that this czech golden generation was refused the euro trophy from greece xD
Czech team was scary. Even when they were 2-0 down against Holland, you knew they will win, and they did. Same with Germany in the last match of group stages, they didn’t needed to win, and Germany had the lead, but Czech said, no, we will win and they scored twice and knocked Germany out!😄 They won all their group games like this. Shame they didn’t won that tournament!
This match made history. Why? Because it was the first and last match in football competition that had the silver goal rule. Right after, FIFA reverted back to those senseless 2 x 15 min extra time halves.
The silver goal rule already existed the previous year but no goals were scored in the first half until the Greece goal. It was discontinued because of its overwhelming unpopularity similar to the disastrous golden goal rule
@@colmd7680 Tbh I was in favor of completely eliminating extra time as a whole until I saw the World Cup final. Seems as though a lot of tournaments are going to start getting rid of extra time. UEFA Super Cup just did it.
@kiainbo265 some competitions probably need to eliminate it like the English League Cup because of fixture congestion but the more major competitons like international and European cup competitions or FA Cup will continue to have it unless there is a seismic sea change

Best Czech team ever vs best greek team ever. However, greece were very lucky in this game as Czechs lose Nedved and then hitting crossbar by Rosicky and other good missed opportunities by the czech players. 🤷♂️ Football and sports in general can give us these underdog moments and in 2004, it was Greece who pulled off the upset.
Moment Czech lost the game, trophy was for Greece, even before final.. Cz no one was even nearer to Czech in that Euro.. Loss of Nedved cost them the Euro...
What's interesting is that the two countries finally met at Euro 2008 & 2012 even though they weren't the same team anymore, especially Figo, Rui Costa, Nedved and Poborsky were no longer there.
The genuine shock of the announcer is hilarious
