@@Imagine-Amy Martinez was scored 3 times before the shootouts, but the 1st and 3rd were penalties (and the 3rd one was unearned, to be honest) and goalkeepers are expected to get goaled most of the time on penalties, even him who has earned a reputation for being good at them. Also, Mbappe is an excellent penalty shooter.
As for France's 2nd goal, it was an amazing shoot, out of an incredible play by france. But so was the last play against Kolo Muani, which he miraculously stopped, earning us the tie. He had no business stopping either of those, but he stopped one regardless
Then in the penalty shootouts, he did his job, as usual: He stopped one, once again securing us the victory
Overall, he did an amazing job, even though the number of goals may make one think otherwise at first.

For me 2006, 2010, and 2014 Final was a 50-50 encounter, it should have gone the way of either teams. This year's Final was incredible and dominated by Argentina until the 76th minute, because they substituted Di Maria for Acuna and stopped attacking👑

@@msch7620 Nah France started the second half same way they ended the first, which was really bad, the only substitute player who impacted the game was Coman but that was also after the gifted penalty from Otamendi which gave France courage to try till the end. If Otamendi didn't make that mistake or if Di Maria was still on the pitch to give balance to Argentina the game would've ended in 90 minutes. But these are just ifs, I'm just grateful I could witness such an extraordinary finale.

Messi managing the midfield and creating chances, Di Maria, Alvarez and MC Alistair is on finishing line and De Paul targeted Griezmann and Embappe.... Experts saying this arrangement had a power to kill the best possible team and best utilisation of Messi. But after replacing Di Maria the whole team got into a defensive mode. And as usual Otamendi messed up ...

I'm just glad that second one didn't knock Argentina out morale-wise and that they kept on fighting til the end. What a match. Doubt I'll ever see anything like it again in my lifetime. We're lucky.

World Cup Final 2022 was brilliant, all the hypes and expectations with Messi winning the World Cup. And the first half made it looked like Argentina would win easily but Mbappé pulled it into overtime then penalties. Also all of Mbappé penalties went in the same corner, the pressure of shooting a penalty when having 2-0 lead and being the first person to shoot in penalties shootout but he scored all of them, felt like a redemption for Euro 2020.

1998 was the first World Cup I have conscious memory of; alot has changed since then in this beautiful game. I have been truly blessed to see some of the greatest players in the history of football in their prime.
