Could one of the staples of a gamer’s diet actually improve physiological health the same way it has for mice and worms? Is it possible to harness plant photosynthesis with a synthetic leaf that mirrors the same chemical process to replace fossil fuels? Will small armies of robot cartographers replace Google Street View cars -- and eventually explore the unknowns of Earth’s oceans? How long have hominins existed in Greece, and are our Mediterranean ancestors hundreds of thousands of years older than we think?
The James Webb Space Telescope has just captured images of molecules over 12 billion light years away -- but are they just specks of matter, or are they the building blocks of stars?
Han Solo’s nap in carbonite might just be a part of your own future now that mice have been induced into a state of torpor -- and it has implications for improving emergency medicine. The idea of inducing torpor was first proposed to reduce the physical demands of space travel, and when you finally cruise to Mars, who knows how many arms and legs you’ll have? Researchers at MIT have tacked on a pair of supernumerary limbs that gets us one step closer to being space octopuses.
The future of science and technology gets more exciting by the day, but we continue to uncover amazing elements of our past -- like a 3,000 year old sword in Bavaria that has been preserved so well that its blade still shines. Past. Present. Future. Mind Blow!

Can't begin to express how nostalgic I feel watching mindblow again. It used to be my favorite youtube series when I was in high school. So yeah, uh, thank you. 😊
you should give away CDs with VSauce episodes on them, maybe even try compressing for a 3 1/2 floppy. Supporters would love this retro tech

Ive been supplementing Taurine for the past 3 years. Can confirm - havent died yet.
🤣🤣🤣
Keep in mind that Taurine is an anti-oxidant that reduces oxidative stress by reducing oxygen production.
Also, note that oxidative stress is a requirement for building muscle and recovering energy, especially since slow twitch muscle fibers recover faster than fast twitch muscles due to being able to utilize oxygen more efficiently.
There is a reason why people who take powerful anti-oxidants such as resveratrol report a significant decrease in performance and muscle recovery.
@@Skelath I've had no issues with my performance or recovery. I've also put on several lb's of lean tissue using progressive overload.
I ran your statement by an A I see below:
The statement contains some errors and misleading points, so let's go over them:
Taurine is indeed an amino sulfonic acid that's widely distributed in many tissues of the body, and is particularly high in certain tissues like the heart and retina. While taurine does exhibit antioxidant properties and can help mitigate oxidative stress, it's not accurate to say it "reduces oxidative stress by reducing oxygen production." Taurine does not directly reduce the production of oxygen in the body. It helps to protect cells from damage by reactive oxygen species (ROS), which are generated during various metabolic processes, not by reducing the production of oxygen.
Oxidative stress is not a requirement for building muscle and recovering energy. Rather, oxidative stress is generally harmful to cells and tissues, as it can cause damage to cellular components like proteins, lipids, and DNA. The body's antioxidant defenses, which include molecules like taurine, work to neutralize these reactive oxygen species and thus limit oxidative stress.
The comparison between slow-twitch and fast-twitch muscle fibers is somewhat misleading. It's true that slow-twitch (type I) muscle fibers are more resistant to fatigue and are more efficient at using oxygen to generate ATP for continuous, extended muscle contractions than fast-twitch fibers. However, this doesn't directly tie into the point about oxidative stress, nor does it mean that oxidative stress is beneficial for these fibers.
Regarding the statement on resveratrol, while some studies suggest that it may interfere with certain beneficial adaptations to exercise, other studies have found potential performance and recovery benefits. The research in this area is still evolving and not conclusive. Therefore, it's not universally accurate to say that people who take resveratrol experience a significant decrease in performance and muscle recovery. This might be the case for some individuals or under certain conditions, but not universally or necessarily.
In summary, while taurine and resveratrol do have antioxidant properties, it's not correct to say that taurine reduces oxidative stress by decreasing oxygen production, or that oxidative stress is required for muscle recovery and performance. Further, the effects of resveratrol on exercise performance and recovery are complex and not fully understood, so broad statements about its effects may be misleading.

3:03: ! The Basin's unique paleoenvironment in Kyparissia4 reveals hominin activity that's 700,000 years old, the excavation shows promise of unlocking more about our ancestors in the middle of the Pleistocene, and the oldest organic molecules in the known universe have been discovered by The James Webb Space Telescope.
5:56: 🚀 Biomedical engineers use ultrasound to induce torpor-like state in mice, potentially aiding in space travel and medical treatment.
Recap by Tammy AI
Remember when everyone kept saying that taurine was actually bull semen in energy drinks, that was a weird time
Wait, you didn't know taurine is extracted from gonads of bulls? I'm actually in the supplement business and we raise hundreds of bulls. My job is sticking needles into their balls to extract the precious taurinol. It is later refined into taurine that is safe for human consumption.
Seeing the CD for the first time must have indeed been mind blowing. Imagine going from a physical medium to reading music via laser.

Mind blow is such a great format!❤
Thank you for putting your thumbnail story first. You are a modern hero
The dose they give animals is much different then what humans take. The animals were given ridiculous doses
How much more were the doses than let's say a person who drinks a 50cl can of energy drink every day?
@@Aomicplane The high dose is usually not ethical. Might be unhealthy long term. The dose you can get from the store or energy drink is good. Buying the taurine directly would be best. You then could experiment with higher doses. Most of these animal studies use way more product then what humans take in order to elicit effective data.

I am so happy mind blow is back!!!
I take taurine with my coffee every day. You still get the alert feeling without the jitters, which is why it is added to caffeine drinks. One warning though: If you take more than 1 or 2 pills per day, you run the risk of developing depression-like symptoms. That happened to me and now I only take 1 a day.
Evidence: trust me bro
So excited to have this series back again! And, if you have to get Raid Shadow Legends to sponsor you, please don't let annoying commenters bully you out of it. Just get that bag, as long as it lets you make more great stuff :)

Yeah some ingredients from an energy drink might increase your lifespan, but others will kill you much before that. Water is best drink!
1. No one drinks energy drinks _instead_ of water. They leave you feeling thirsty.
2. "Water is best" - Citation needed
3. "Others will kill you" - Citation needed
Caffeine isn't mentioned, but caffeine is pretty fantastic, too. It basically makes your brain work better.
Can you have too much? Absolutely. But that's true of literally everything, including water. You can mess up your kidneys if you drink too much of it.

00:04 My guy, I got a mind blow for you.
Those are not worms. Their slang/common name in the feeder industry are superworms/king worms/ morio worms. That species is Zophobas morio, and those are beetle larvae. They have 6 legs and a body made chitin. They also have 2 hooks at the end of their long body to help them grip, move in reverse, or more forward. They can secrete a musk from between their chitin plates when threatened, but it is not thick like the mucus of some actual worm species, however, it does have a chemical smell which may make some predators let them go. They are typically fed to reptiles, birds, and fish, none of which mind the musk they secrete.
Did you know??? Zophobas morio larvae can stay in their larvae state for over 1 year, can survive without food or water for over a month ( provided it was juicy to begin with ), and can survive on only water and frass for several months. They can eat Styrofoam, metabolize it AND live off of it only.
If I blew your mind, give this comment a like and perhaps give my channel a view if you want to know more about this insect and a few others that I breed :).

So, we_could_ narrow that to hominin to maintain my original point or broaden it to hominids, because why not?
