This is a song about someone trapped in their own pain, constantly feeling abandoned. They try to find answers but keep falling into the same despair. In the end, they accept that this suffering is their fate, unable to escape the cycle of their own making.
Dany is able to sound happy, sad, defiant, and triumphant all at the same time. That’s a rare ability among vocalists. It makes her extra special.
This is an emotional song for them. This was from August 2022. It was recorded over a 2 night show. Pau was in tears both nights after performing this song. Still one of my favorites from them. BTW the video for this song is absolutely beautiful!
There are moments that get engraved in your life. One of them is being there singing the last chorus while getting chills from thousands more doing the same behind you.

From a far corner of India Mizoram. I don't know anything about their lyrics even though I'd love them from 2019( I think from their Album QOTMS) This song mkes me crazy, 1st time i herd I think i felt like its an Anthem. Ok! now, Its an Anthem. I don't know any meaning at all but I wanna shout and singing with a thousand of people in a Stadium or open air... nyway.. Typically this is the second to last song they play at a show before Evolve. Its a true rock anthem, crowd involvement song, and even us English speakers can sing along at the end. It's just such a feel good song to me. Very emotional, the sisters are always smiling and emotional singing and playing it. To me it's the spiritial essence of The Warning distilled into one song, and it has a Dany slow solo, which we all love!

They have been closing their shows in Mexico and South America with this song. I got to see two shows last fall in Mexico City and Monterrey. What a fantastic way to end a concert than with this Spanish-language stadium anthem. There were 8000 of us in Mexico City singing at the tops of our lungs. I have been going to concerts of nearly every musical genre from opera to metal for more than 40 years. I cannot recall walking out of a hall with a better feeling than I did after The Warning in their home country.

This is a great rock anthem no matter what the language. If you watch at the end you can see tears in Pau's eyes, not just from the song, but from the reception they got from their home crowd. These two back-to-back concerts, both nights sold out meant a lot to the three of them and their whole crew. What came out of it was one of the best live concert videos ever.

I know what you mean. I don't speak Spanish either but instinctively you know there is a deep meaning behind it.
Cute story: Back in the Fall of 2020 The Warning traveled to New Jersey to record their album with the producer David Bendeth. Dany and David recorded the vocals and they both thought it sounded great. Pau came in later to hear the recorded vocals and told Dany she was singing the song with an American accent. Dany then took a couple days and spoke only Spanish before she gave it another shot. The sisters watch everything that goes on with their music.

The Warning's lyrics are often metaphorical and open to interpretation, so although I'm bilingual, please take my interpretation with a grain of salt. Martirio (mar-TEE-ryo, Spanish for martyrdom) is a critique of self-made martyrs. The ERROR album is largely directed at Gen Zers, so Martirio may have been intended to refer primarily to that generation, but the lyrics apply to anyone who chokes on their own self-inflicted pain in search of sympathy, something they may be doing unwittingly. The song ends on a somewhat hopeful note, telling the martyr to say goodbye to their life as a martyr.

The track was written for *Error,* which was recorded in late 2020. The OMV is magnificent, photographed on a hot day in the desert. Their Mom plays one of the characters in it. Imagine watching your daughters create this in the studio with David Bendeth producing, then going out on location to record the video with them, then watching them perform it night after night in front of thousands of people. Their parents have to be extremely proud of them. Great reaction as usual, Eric!
Mar-tear-e-o. When you hear a couple of thousand audience members sing at the end you experience an out of body rush. Pau is known to tear up during this song.

I had somewhat given up on music over the last few years and largely disengaged until i discovered _The Warning._ Now I'm listening to channels like this and getting a better understanding of music.
You gotta here the new album, BUT this one has a permanent place in my top 5. Especially this live perfomance. The OMV is beautiful as well!

@@SDsailor7 No official release yet. They did do it live when they performed together recently and there are a few fancams of it, but it hasn't been released yet. It will be on the Band Maid album, not the Warning album.

You can't beat this concert for one amazing performance after another. TW is the MTV Push featured artist for July 2024 and you must check out the new album, Keep Me Fed! I'm still more of a fan of their live performances, but they raised the bar on the studio recordings for the new album. There are already several live studio performances from Kimmel Live and MTV Push. Keep on rocking and you've been warned!!

Anthemic song, they debuted a work in progress version of this song back in 2019 in their tour in Argentina with their sister band Eruca Sativa, also from Argentina. They were the openers for Eruca Sativa. I'd say they started writing this song like 2018ish, it's just my guess.

The wall of sound in this live performance is incredible. The band sounds huge. Dany’s vocals are top-tier. For me, this concert pushed her to the front of current rock vocalists. She’s even better on the new album. But Dany’s vocal and guitar here are so good.
Can’t wait for you to listen to their new album, Keep Me Fed. The album is amazing. It has also given the band their first release to chart in the States, debuting at 1 for Emerging Artist, 4 Top Hard Rock Albums, 6 on Top Album Sales, 10, on Top Alternative, 27 on Billboard Artist 100, selling between 15,000 and 16,000 in its first week in the States. It also has charted 1 in the UK Hard Rock charts, along with charting in some other countries as well. I’m very happy for these talented sisters. All their hard work is paying off.
Martirio also translates to suffering...
It's about someone (anyone?) finding themselves drowning in suffering, searching for a savior who never delivers and, ultimately gives the advice to learn from others who walked this path and accept that a ( likely painful) severance from this miserable path would be better than to continue on living in misery. Better a painful end than endless pain.

speaking only for myself, I'm usually so impressed with Pau's ability to bring out the emotions in a song that I sometimes over look Danny and her awesome abilities to also be expressive with her voice. she really can do it all. these young woman are the complete package. they also have that ability to write songs that sound familiar but new at the same time.

Excellent as always with your analysis... connecting the dots with the Seattle grunge sound (I hear echos of Pearl Jam too) was exactly what lured me in to The Warning. I hope you get around to covering some of their newest tracks from their just out KMF album; Six Feet Deep, Apologize, Escapism, Satisfied and Consume are all great (actually every single track is great).
Also, sorry to hear you can't make it to the show in Nashville. Seeing The Warning live was a life altering experience for me and I wish you could experience that too. If I had an extra ticket or two, I would gladly gift them to you, but sadly this is not a show I'm attending. I wouldn't be surprised if there's another generous TWA member out there that takes care of you. You deserve it!

I love Dany's soaring vocals in Martirio!! And like many of The Warning's songs, I can easily picture it on a movie soundtrack.
I bought tickets to the show in Atlanta on Sept 27 from their website for 27.50 GA. I think you may have run into some scalpers.

Martirio is one of my absolute favorites from The Warning. Such a *beautiful* song :)
These days, they usually close shows with Evolve. One of the things that I love the most about TW is that they wear their influences on their sleeves in everything they do, and they have such *varied* influneces... They bring generation upon generation of rock all together into a sound that, when combined, is uniquely The Warning.

The studio version of this song is already emotional but this live performance is so much so you can hear Dany lose herself to it in the belted notes at the end. Gets me in the feels every time! 🤘

Nice analysis Eric. Martirio is one of my favorite from the band. TW definitely has some influences and grunge is one of them. Yes, one of the things I love about them is the emotional connection they have with the audience, especially Dany. Perfect frontwoman for the band, peace.

Up until 4 days ago I knew nothing about this band. I don't speak Spanish so I'm afraid I can't help you. But I've watched other videos and they are amazing! They are a sister band and have been a band for 10 years. The Bass player is only 19 now so she wasn't even 10 years old when they formed. I think they are incredible! Musically very solid and creative song writers. But it's their stage presence that blew me away. The are fearless onstage which is impressive for musicians so young. I would recommend listening to Dust to Dust and Hell You Call a Dream. I think the sky's the limit for these young ladies. Rock music needs them.
Hey Eric! Excellent description of the music, as always! Both Dany and Pau have a natural, slight yodel at the end of their vocal phrases, that does show their emotion in their singing. And it does have that grunge undertone (Nice catch on that Alice In Chains "Would" reference). They do (or did, before the new album came out) play this toward the end of their shows, and at the end when playing to a Spanish speaking audience! No matter the language it's a huge anthemic song!
