    When the first frustrated people appeared criticizing them for singing in English, Paulina responded in a brilliant and ironic way with Narcisista... In the second song they recorded in their native language they simply produced the most beautiful rock that has ever been recorded in Spanish. Martírio is an incredible song, they are incredible..

    For me, the most beautiful and most heart breaking song from The Warning. I have long ago neglected and forgotten my late mom’s Spanish heritage. I cried the first time I heard the song. For me, it’s as if it’s my mom singing, her life, her sacrifices, the choices she made. And when Dany lets out that haunting cry at the end, I hear mom, and I just break down. I have struggled to learn to sing and play this song on the guitar. And I have used this song to teach my son Spanish. I miss mom very much and I love The Warning for bringing her back to me and my son.

    I too don't speak Spanish but like so many others love all three of their Spanish language songs. Dany is not one for flashy solos but there is no denying she can really make that guitar sing. Their mother, who happens to be a Dentist, helps them with the Spanish grammar in their 3 Spanish songs since their education was all in English and French. They gave her writing credit on their latest Spanish song Que Mas Quieres.

      @@bjwnashe5589 Yes, Spanish is their first language and they are completely fluent but they admit they need help with the Spanish grammar both written and in songs. They took Narcisista to their mother and she read it and her reaction was "this does not say what you think it says" and she helped them fix it. It's in their vlogs. She also helped with Marterio and Que Mas Quieres.

    • @sergioperez2594
      @sergioperez2594 Před 2 měsíci +5

      No way their education was all in English and French, that's not even legal in Mexico for a certified school.
      What happens is that teens are not normally as good in Spanish grammar as educated adults.
      Remember, Spanish grammar is more complicated than English grammar, English, apart from pronounciation, is an easy language to learn.
      The girls did not go to college, so they had a limited exposure to the art of Spanish writing back then. I think, nowadays, they already caught up.

    • @rocky-dl8lk
      @rocky-dl8lk Před 2 měsíci +3

      @@sergioperez2594 It’s straight from their own mouths in their vlogs. They went to Liceo de Monterrey which is a private Catholic school. I don’t personally know what it’s like now but my grandmother taught at a college in Mexico City and it was English and French only but that was many years ago.

    A little behind the scenes of the video: the crawling arm covered in oil was done by their mom, Monica; the clip with sun behind Daniela was shot with her raised 20 feet or so in the air on a camera boom being with 2 or 3 people holding onto her. The producer wanted that shot, and her dad, Luis, objected, but Daniela said let's go for it. The girls usually gat what they want. David Bendeth, producer for the Error album found that out too; the druids in black outfits holding the torches are the girls. The torches were real. They said the torches were heavy to carry; the wind blew the canopy apart, so it wasn't supposed to be shredded like that; there were flies everywhere; at one point a large yellow wasp landed on Alejandra and she had to stand still until it went away; toward the end of the shoot they ran out of water. Daniela thought she could use liquid soap to get the dirt off hr arms and it was just a goopy mess, and she said she wanted cry; Alejandra said it took an hour to get her boots clean at home.
    Tip: if you go into the desert out some water first to attract the insects, then they'll leave you alone.

It's the same with Spanish-speaking people singing along to the songs they do in English. They also sell out shows in countries where neither of these is the official language. Stadium rock anthem if there ever was. Utterly beautiful song.
    All the lyrics translations use martyrdom but “Martirio” also translates as “torment”. & based on the “suffocated with your own hands”, if you replace “martyrdom” with “torment” I read the song as being about self-torment/martyrdom. Waiting for someone to “rescue you” yet diving back into the self pity “fall back into the void”. Basically I see it as a pick up your shit & deal with it song. “Learn from those who suffered”.

    I didn’t fully connect to this song until I saw The Warning live. Then it was strangely emotional, especially that outro wail.
    The behind the scenes for the video is funny, though. One of those flapping sheets covered Pau’s face as she sat behind the kit and made for a hilarious pic.

    This is one of my favorite songs they've done, for a ton of reasons. Ale's bassline is great, the video is really cool, I just love the way the song builds, and Dany's vocals in this song are amazing. I was blown away when I heard Dany sing this song the first time I saw them live and she sounded exactly the same as on the album. I can barely order a beer in Spanish, but you are so right that music is the universal language and this song is a prime example of that.

    I just wish the ladies had been around in the late '80s; I could have used this song back then to kick me in my butt. I was (at the time) "wallowing in my martyrdom" to predictable effect. I finally broke out of it - nearly a *decade* later. It would have been great to have my foolishness pointed out to me earlier in such a powerful and poetic manner as to grab one's attention.
    These young women are mind-bogglingly talented, of that there is no doubt!! 🤘⚡🤘

      I think this young generation DEFINITELY needs them now! The victim mentality is strong these days! I think we all go through a stage like that... but I feel like it's being taught and becoming a bit of a religion now, rather than making people take accountability.

    Top song! 👍 Like you I looked up the translation when I first heard it - I don't understand the lyrics as they are being sung either, but it still moves me - sign of a good song I suppose! 😁

    This track is a chill factory. From Pau's insane groove to Dany's gorgeous melody to Ale's mood inspiring bass lines, Martirio is a work of art. I don't speak Spanish and yet I know every word. The imagery is stunning! When I get to see them live, I will be waiting for this song. And I will be a COMPLETE mess when it starts. ⚡⚡⚡
