Martirio is an international Rock Anthem that will only become more appreciated as time goes by. Ale has been playing a Spector five string exclusively since 2020 and her custom model since the Spector reps traveled to NJ and presented it to her while recording the Error album. She used her backup bass (original) for the More video shoot.

Love this band, but I think due to her youth and quietness, Ale is the most overlooked member..while possibly being the most potent weapon. Dany and Pau of course are amazing, but I can't think of a single bassline from Ale that didn't blow me away. Nothing simple, but never overdone. Ale and Misa from Band Maid make me, as a bass player, very very happy, every listen.

Martirio = martydom. This song is about calling out someone who lives life perpetually playing the martyr (victim). Ale’s bass is not a signature bass. It is a custom Spector with her signature color - Ale’s Inferno. Ale has been playing that since 2020. Five strings keeps her from changing bases between songs. The guitar runs through a Kemper programmable pedal board. Much of the effects come from that. It can duplicate/triplicate her guitar signal in different octaves with different effects filling out the sound.

If you guys want to catch some of their acoustic performances you should check out their performance in Canada last year. I think they were playing for a radio station but Ale was sick so it was just Dany on acoustic guitar and Pau on a keyboard. They pretty much just improvised it on their way over. Probably something w will never see again with just 2 of the 3 playing. It's an incredible performance. Pau sings most of the songs because Dany was still getting over the flu. Rudy recorded it on his phone but check out the recording from someone in the audience. I don't have the link but the person's CZcams page is called Minutes for Hope. It's a really great recording from a different view than what Rudy's was. Even if you don't react to it check it out on your own. It's about an hour and 15 minutes. If you would like to react to it TWA will be right alongside watching with you. Great reaction to Martirio!!

A few points as I'm watching -- it's fitting for Pau to wear a Catholic school girl outfit, seeing how she WAS a Catholic school girl! Ale's not just using a custom Specter base, it's HER Specter custom bass, IIRC "Ale's Inferno" Signature bass. Look it up!

At the end of this song, which was the last song in the concert set prior to the encore, they left the stage, and came back to perform Evolve. By the end of that song, Pau was an emotional wreck. They took their bows, then Pau broke down, was full-out crying as she buried her face into Ale's shoulder. Their mom came over to comfort her. The context explains some of that. This was at the second of their two sold-out shows at a historic venue in the heart of Mexico City where it is considered a special honor to perform. Think of a rock band performing at Carnegie Hall for something comparable in US terms. Then consider how hostile domestic criticism toward them was because they wrote their songs in English prompting them to compose Narcisista as their response (in Spanish). And this is their second song written in Spanish. To have the entire audience singing along not only to this song but every song they performed, even though the vast majority were Mexican, had to affect all of them. You can hear Dany's voice crack at the vocal climax of the song. It's just Pau is the most empathetic of the three, I think. And she doesn't hold back in expressing what she feels.

They have cabinets on stage, normally mic'ed with one microphone that can't be seen here. Personally, I am awe of Dany's sound. Between her sound and Ale's, they fill the spectrum and compete less in the vocal space. That fill you noticed after 11:30..right before it, Pau played the floor toms with her left hand to keep her right hand on the cymbal. Her chops are crazy.

one way i've seen to seemingly get around these claims is to place a watermark or text over the video or making the video translucent in the scene...
another way is to break the reactions into separate videos... just be sure to include their speaking portions between the songs... what they say is as or more important than their music and the art they create with it... ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡

You can really tell when Dany is “feeling” this song in a performance because she sings it with extra emotion.
You didn’t mention the voice crack at the end but that was pure emotion. She did that as well in London when they played it.

Ya, that break in her voice spoils this performance for me. While perfection is rarely achieved live, if something makes you cringe, it's never a good thing. In October 2020 (while the band was recording Error) Spector hand-delivered Ale's custom-built NS5-XL (with a lightning bolt inlay) - czcams.com/video/lq6q5riGdbE/video.html . In all the other videos from this concert you see many shots of the crowd from behind the band, but in this one I don't think there are any. My theory is that for this video they were focusing on portraying how the crowd felt, or letting us join the crowd. So all the shots are from different audience angles (edit to add.. not all. There are shots from behind Pau and from the wings). There are also some cell phone shots (simulated maybe from the pro shots?) that I don't remember seeing in the others. It's like for this song in particular, this video was for the crowd. Letting them relive the feelings they had then.

From 7:27 to 7:29 with a combination of short fills & cymbal crashes Pau enters into a sumptuous rhythm at 7:30 starting the 2nd verse. It has 2 sub-sections & gets repeated for 9 times I think. The 1st part is the main rhythm of Martirio. The 2nd sub-section uses snare, toms & floor toms. She doesn't repeat it anywhere else.

Ale' has been playing a 5 string bass since at least 2020. There are videos of her and her bass teacher Pablo working on her playing a 6 string bass from back around 2016 or so! This particular one is a custom built Spector US designed and built to her specifications. Buckeye wood with burning embers. She became the youngest member of the Spector family in 2020 as a 15 year old and is an absolute master on the bass. Oh and for Ale's 5 string... I guess others mentioned it, but it's custom made for Alejandra by Spector USA... has her signature on the back of the headstock, the warning lightning bolt logo in mother of pearl on the fretboard, chambered body for lightness, USA Haz 18v preamp, EMG active pickups (I forget which model but it's the one that Ale had fallen in love with in her 4 string basses), it's neck through, and the finish on the body was designed by Alejandra with Spector and is actually something you can order on any custom shop Spector bass... the finish is named "Ale's Inferno". that thing is a beast.... They actually were going to release a 4 string sig bass under her name, which was Gold fleck finish if I understand correctly... but Ale had moved onto nearly exclusively playing 5 string by that time and the sig bass was cancelled. sort of sad... but I think that a true sig artist model "ale villarreal" bass one could buy in a store that is like her 5 string would be so expensive as to be unmarketable. Maybe one day though...

Dany's using IRs... she's a total tone nerd and has gone direct from her helix (ever since she started touring after the first album) and kemper profiler (current days) through 2 modelled paths/amps/IRs and generally runs a live stage amp/cab from a third output on her floorboard so she has live feedback/sustain, and that too is miked up.... so the only fuzz you hear is what she wants to hear, I'm certain of that. It's a harsher tone than she used to get but she really loves that sound and it's becoming part of the band's live sound now for sure. But it's not direct without IRs... it's a kemper.... 100% the most sought after tone machine, as long as you can deal with the really complex amp profiling. I'd imagine she either used pre-existing profiles (most likely) or worked with one of their amazing sound engineers to create profiles as effectively as possible.... but ya never know. Dany is truly a guitar tech nerd LoL...

This is a very special video. This is it. This is the band fully connected to their fans. From Pau's tearful eyes, to the inclusion of fan-made takes, Ale's expressions, and Dany's emotive belting at the end, this is total communion from both sides of the stage. Beautiful. Simply beautiful.

The two of you mentioned that Martirio was the first Mexican band singing in Spanish. You absolutley MUST watch and react to Narcisista! It is the other song they sing in Spanish. The song is an absolute fan favorite! For some time critics in Mexico were bad mouthing The Warning, saying that singing their songs in English was betraying their country and they should sing in Spanish. Finally getting tired of all of the hate, The Warning did just like what their critics told them to do.....They wrote a song in Spanish, telling all the haters that they just need to shut their mouths and leave them alone! I would love to see your reaction! The best version to react to is from their En Vivo en Foro DiDi show.

In 2020, when Ale was 15, Spector USA gifted her this bass. They called it "Alejandra Villarreal Spector USA Signature 5 String Bass" in "Ale's Inferno" finish. That red speckled finish was designed by Ale.
Since then, using a high action style, Ale had mastered playing this instrument specifically made for her (with hollow pockets to reduce weight). Such is her control over plucking the strings that she makes the bass sound "bouncy" like a stretched spring with a recoil. Almost fretless!!! She covers the low frequencies as well as the mid lower ones because they are a trio.
And when she hits that B string its a goosebumps moment. In Enter Sandman from this same concert at CDMX (Ciudad de Mexico or Mexico City) Ale plays a sequence of triplets early in the song. When she played the last triplet on B string it was one of the highlights of their reimagined Enter Sandman.
There is no exact replica of this bass from Spector obviously. What I gathered from diferent posts the nearest one in same finish was around $9000.
Ale is among featured artists on Spector Bass website. Her image & feedback on Spector bass is the 1st one in the dropdown menu. Spector hasn't changed it over the years. Speaks volumes about what one of the leading bass makers think of a teenager among other renowned bassists triple her age. As David Bendeth. the famous producer, said "Ale can hang out with anybody technically". As an ex-bassist myself I wish I had an iota of her talent.

May have been stated already, but they do use amps and cabs on stage, in this instance they were behind the screens. Dany had used an Orange cab until recently, she now uses a Boogie 4x12 with a 609 just off center on the top right speaker. Her Kemper runs to an Orange power amp on top of the cab. Ale has used an Ampeg fridge long before she was as tall as it was. I have seen it mic'd with everything ftom a D112, Beta52, to an RE20 or RE30. Amp wise I think she still uses her Orange head and cabinet at home, and used an Ampeg SVT-4 Pro live. Recently she has used a Boogie Subway D800 live. Ale has used Spector NS5XL & NS5LT's for a few years now, before that she was using a white Euro4, and a black sparkle Rachel Bolan signature Euro4. Hope this helps.

Ale was gifted her first Spector bass by an early (and still active Patreon). She started playing the 5 string just before they recorded the Error album in 2022. She has been a featured artist with Spector since she was 13 or so years old. Here's a quick video from Spector about her custom 5 string named "Ale's Inferno" when they delivered it to her in 2020 while they were in New Jersey recording Error.

Alejandra plays her 5-string Spector in "More" and "Evolve". Also, in "Choke" if you've seen that mv. Any video they have recorded after the January 2020 Whiskey A-Go-Go show, Alejandra is playing a 5-string bass.
She was presented with her custom Spector bass in September 2020 while they were recording the "Error" album in New Jersey with producer David Bendeth. Alejandra was 15 at the time. (She turned 16 that December and finished HS the following year at age 16 as well.)
The Spector team drove from Woodstock, NY to Clifton, NJ to hand deliver the bass to her. After recording the album the Spector team did a photoshoot with Alejandra. Part of the shoot was with a gold bass they called "Golden Thunder" or "Gold Thunder" and part with her custom bass "Ale Inferno."
She also has a tan-colored 5-string bass she used before receiving her custom Spector to get used to playing with a 5-string. She had to adapt all their previous songs done on a 4-string bass to her new 5-string as well. She uses both of her 5-string basses in the "More" music video.
Here is a link to a video they recorded for the DeTour virtual charity concert August 15, 2020, during the pandemic to help artists financially. Lzzy Hale saw this performance and contacted them afterward to invite them on tour with her. Which they did last year, nearly 40 shows opening for Halestorm. This is the link to that performance. Notice the 5-string bass Alejandra is playing. This is her 5-string "practice" bass. Remember, Ale is 15 at this time.

Interestingly, I didn't particularly like this song until I saw it live in Boston about a year ago. Then it blew past everything but Survive on my list of favorites by TW. Dany's passion, even more here than usual, did a lot of it, as did that opening, which has a Spanish classical feel to me, and that drum pattern Pau does in the second verse.
They have a lot of singalong songs; Survive, Disciple, Narcisista, and Choke among them. In Madrid on their European tour, to judge by the fan videos, their vocals could barely be heard with the crowd singing along to everything, English and Spanish alike.
As an update, they consider these two shows (they also played August 26) to be the most important of their career to date. I believe they were the largest headlining shows they've played to date (3000~3500); they've certainly played much bigger crowds at festivals and as support. In October, they are playing a headlining concert at the Pepsi Center, also in Mexico City, with capacity 7000 or so. IIRC that one is already sold out.

I have said it other places, Ale is supposed to have perfect pitch. That leaves a possibility of fretless 5 string. That would redefine their whole sound ( for the better?). Slides would become glissando rather than portamento.
