The fact that the only reward for going through all this sufference is a 2 seconds cutscene of Pale King and Hollow Knight staring at each other makes me want to headbutt the wall.
You also get the "Seal of Binding" journal entry. The reward is the challenge itself though
Not much TC could do for a reward tho, this is completely end game at this point so geo would be useless, so would a charm because you have killed basically everything, and you are god incarnate at this stage, so they gave something valuable at this level

@@moonlight-qr6px I did this after 40 hours and playtime and only reached 100% after finishing white palace, overall, it's not exactly end game content and there, as a result are more things you can do such as trial of the fool (which actually gives geo) or the pantheons. In fairness, it did take me 30 minutes which is quite a while
yo. that is the key plot point, after that scene we all know why hollow knight failed to seal the radiance because he is in fact not totally hollow,i think that scene is totally worth the pain.

This path took me over 13 hours. The room before the fight alone took over 9 hours. Throughout that entire time, I forgot about Quick Slash and Mark Of Pride. Thankfully, I managed to beat the two Kingsmoulds with two masks to spare (I was beyond nervous). I regret nothing.

In the charms menu, we see Sprintmaster before Void Heart. This only happens if you had Sprintmaster equipped when you got Void Heart. You have NEVER unequipped Sprintmaster since you got Void Heart, massive respect.

@@Miles.Official When Elin switches their charms, Sprintmaster is shown on the left of Void Heart. That means that they had equipped Sprintmaster during the Birthplace and never took it off. I’m not saying that they’re unable to take off the charm, I’m saying that they never did.

Honestly, the trick to beating path of pain is to have fun. It is fun. This whole area was one of the most fun portions of the game.
"It's fun" says the emptied husk, devoid of emotions after being relinquished of it's own mind, having been filled up with the same void as the Hollow Knight, except even the latter fails on being the pure vessel it's been made to, while you, has no more soul whatsoever

It's fun when you beat the section you've been stuck on and begin to explore the next section. After that, it immediately stops being fun when all you're doing is repeating the same exact actions over and over again, slowly trying to become precise enough to move on

All of that took me hours i couldnt even finish the final room because i was getting hit repeatedly for hours on end being so close to beating it ;-;
Same but then I tried using mark of pride and I didn't use I forget the charm name the honey one and I did it now I beat path of pain I think 12 times but I haven't played in a while now

First time I did path of pain, I think I had Deep Focus, Grubsong, Quickslash?, Dream Weilder and Dashmaster. Dashmaster made me accidentally down-dash into buzz saws several times. I finally made it to the Kingsmould room and got shredded.
Second time I learnt my lesson, think I went in with Deep Focus (Hiveblood is equally effective if not better), Quickslash?, Grubsong/Dream Wielder and Shaman Stone. Ended up spamming Descending Dark to kill the kingsmoulds and still only made it out on 1 mask
The first time I did PoP the final room was so BS. I kept failing the stupid saw shit near the end and all that for like some lore lmao.
i don't know if it was because i was just skilled or because i played celeste but i didn't really struggle much
I died to the kingsmold at the end like three times before beating it 😭
i did this whole thing and it took me 5hrs, 24 minutes, and like four periods where i stopped and literally broke down crying, all for the reward of 2 seconds of lore. i was so pissed

I remember the first time i tried, i knew where to start the path, but not the path itself, i was like "Path of pain? Thats some bullshit" and then realized, that the developer actually mean it, it break my proud, but i gained back by completing, and all that we completed should feel the same

DUDE! This reminded me of my first time on path of pain! It was a Christmas Eve and I spent the whole night. Later, a friend of mine told me that she was scared since she could hear the noise that of controller and my rage even though we were was two rooms apart. 😅😅 Fun memories...

I had been trying to beat that first section for days and I just beat it today. It took me around four hours total to beat just the first section. For reference it took me a little over an hour to beat the entire white palace. After I finally dropped down and beat the first section I stood up and covered my mouth in both surprise and excitement. After countless attempts I thought I would never beat the first section and I was so happy that my mother who was in the room at the time took notice and actually congratulated me when I explained the full situation. I had heard that the first and last sections were the hardest so after finally beating it I have more confidence that I can finish it. That confidence and happiness from beating that first room helped me push forward and beat the next four sections in under an hour. I am currently at the section at 5:49 and having a little trouble but I feel I can actually beat this god damned hell.
Also that freaking cutscene as our reward for beating the freaking hell is the most unfair reward for what had to be done to get it. We at least get a mask shard for the flower quest but for this we get something so trivial.
When I finally beat the POP I am going back through the white palace to the pale king's thrown just so I can piss on his corpse for ever creating that god damned hell.
Edit: I FINALLY beat the POP. At the last part I just spammed vengeful spirit until the two guards died. Now I am off to make good on my promise and piss on the pale king's corpse.
It took you only an hour to beat the white palace? Was that your first playthrough? Because I'm at 5 hours now and I've done slightly more than half (god help me)
@@agatanishcheret7453 Yeah I beat the white palace in a little over an hour on my first play through. After dying the first time I decided that I needed a plan and I went back to change my charm setup. I had every charm and notch in the game at that point so I had options. After doing some math, I realized that doing grub song, grub elegy, and deep focus would give me more soul from taking two hits of damage than it would cost to heal two hits of mask damage. That setup meant that after than first death I could never die as long as I healed and that saved me soooo much time. An alternate setup would be hiveblood but that takes ten seconds to heal the last bit of damage taken so it can get a little slower but it allows you to add mark of pride or longnail.

If I ever go back to PoP I'm absolutely using that setup because waiting on hiveblood is agony
Thanks for sharing your experience man, sounds like it was rough but fun at the same time, not to brag but I did the whole thing in under 4 hours, and am practicing trying to do it no hit right now which might never happen lol, I just enjoy going through it though and getting better each time

Took me 3 hours to get out of the first room. Total time the game was on for that day was 16 hours, in between which i took 2 naps
8 hours and 2 towels thrown, I didn't touch the game for a day after the blow of humiliation, I'm thankful for that section with the door just needing to be completed once, path of pain is now engraved on my dna, right along NKG's fight pattern. No other game has made me go through the 5 stages of grief as fast and as many times as hollow knight. I can't wait for silksong.

I'm Mexican so I HAD to do it HAHAHA
I died midway through because I accidentally walked off before I regenerated my health, but I realized that Path of Pain was a waste of time, because all you get is a 2 second cutscene, so I didn't bother continuing. The only reason I survived was because of the Hiveblood + Grubsong combination.
I don't blame you for not doing the whole thing XD but hey at least you tried and you know what's at the end!!
Once you learn to stop thinking about the amount of deaths you've had and how close you were that one time it's actually quite easy, on the psyche, the platforming is still demonically hard.

People are complaining about no tangible reward for completing this, but like… do you guys really want there to be one? Would you guys rather this be mandatory for full 113% completion or something. It’s better optional, trust me. The cutscene is very important though.

Here’s my story with path of pain: I finally defeated white palace and I already went to birthplace and got voidheart, the thing is, while looking playthroughs to see if the people suffered as much as I did, but instead, I found a video about the secret entrance to path of pain and just in the moment I saw it I went there; already in path of pain I got stuck at the beginning but (after 3 whole days) I was able to move on, the thing is that I got stuck at the very end, right before the battle with the two kingsmolds and I gave up, but the thing is… I forgot that in path of pain there’s no benches annnnnd well no benches equals no checkpoints, but I forgot that and left the game and well… I basically lost my whole progress just because I gave up 😁😁🤣🤣😭😭
Yeah I remember my first time beating that nightmare of a section. I only did it because I thought you got an achievement for doing so. You can imagine my disappointment when I found out it in fact does not give you an achievement.
It took me so much time because i dont play platforms games but liked hollow knight, it was about 3-5 hours

i discovered the broken wall to the path of pain by accident because i wanted to shoot the armored fly (i wanted to see if it does something) and missed. I realised its path of pain halfway through it and had to finish it the following night cuz i didnt want my progress lost. It was, in fact, a path of pain.
This is so relatable, i spent literally 8 hours on this 😂

One of the most fun challenges of this game (even though I got killed by those two dudes after getting stuck through the last part for days on my first try, eventually completed on my second try)
So I remember first playthrough I wanted to give this place a go learned about auto health combo... then I immediately gave up on it hunting down the kingsoul cause I actually almost fell asleep

my charms for path of pain were unbreakable strength quick slash grubsong unbreakable heart and lastly sharp shadow it took me under 12 tries in every section of path of pain nice run

I beat it in 40 minutes. I also died 2 times. Once at the very starting room because I wasn't paying attention to my health. And the other, the last platforming part just before where you fight the two guys. And it was again because I wasn't paying attention to my health when I literally could've just healed. Also, my jump button was broken as heck and resulted in probably 30% more deaths than necessary.

Only late in completing the challenge in 1:30 hrs. It wasn't difficult, but it did distract me a lot and I trusted hahaha
What charms do you guys use for PoP? I've never used dash master or quickslash(though I've always felt like I should.)
I haven't seen the rest of the guys video but in the beginning he's using speedmaster(or whatever it's called?) How is that helpful?
I also noticed he's using Mark of Pride, which is what I did on my first run, and something I now consider a mistake, especially in tight areas. I do use Long Nail, but I feel like I shouldn't even do that, as sometimes I hit the ceiling/thorns above me after bouncing off saws.
I do use Hiveblood and Grubsong(which are practically must haves for me, though there is a ton of soul totems.) Long Nail like I said, unbreakable heart, and...what else...damn. I can't remember. Oh, soul catcher I think.
