THANKYOU this is the first useful resource I've been able to find on the Starkey Evolv AI lineup. There's so much marketing stuff out there for each product, but there's nothing that actually compares them side by side like this video does. I'm so glad I watched it because I was seriously considering the CIC with wireless because it seemed like it ticked all the boxes, but those antennas are ridiculous! Who'd wanna wear those?

Great video, it really helped with my understanding of hearing aids in general and the Evolv in particular. This is the first time I've used a hearing aid and I am absolutely astounded at how much better I now hear. I got the Evolv AI IIC Non-wireless yesterday. I only have hearing loss in my left ear so only got one aid. I didn't think I needed a hearing aid but was I ever wrong. They are very comfortable and I don't really notice them, other than the incredible sound that I now hear. My ears seem to be balanced now and it feels like I even hear better in my other ear. The only issue I had after leaving the audiologist was feedback. I really noticed this when chewing gum. After getting home I tried removing and reinserting the aid and was able to eliminate the feedback. I found that it occurred when I had the aid inserted too deep in my ear. It's more comfortable at the deeper depth but I really don't like or want the feedback. I'll speak with my audiologist on Monday to see if an adjustment can be made. Unfortunately the IIC do not have wireless capabilities. It would be nice to have the features of the wireless models but since they were free through the Veterans Administration I won't complain. It is GREAT to hear again.

I just got the Evolv AI 2400 (battery). I have never worn hearing aids. I AM ALREADY IN LOVE! I am not having any Bluetooth issues mentioned so far. I hear really well and natural. I love that it streams my iPhone. I likely will not use some features but definitely like using to stream my phone calls. I think I made the right choice. Your reviews are always very helpful.

I just received my first pair of hearing aids from the VA on Friday. I have the Starkey Evolv AI 2400 cic. I couldn’t get rechargeable due to my ear canals being so narrow. So far I’m getting used to them. The Bluetooth was a problem as the left one would not connect. If I like them I have to have the VA send the left one back to get repaired. After having hearing loss and being vain for a number of years I finally did a consult. It is quite a difference and wish I had done it sooner.

I just picked up a set of Evolv 2400 RIC R HAs from our new AuD. Both the HAs and the AuD are a significant improvement from where we had been getting service. The only disappointment with the Evolv is that there is no double tap to answer/hang up the phone. Starkey claim that this is on the drawing board, but they will also tell you that Audibel HAs are not locked. Dr. Cliff - do you know if Starkey are planning this as a firmware upgrade and if so, when? They seem to be missing the boat on this one. The mic can be switched between the HAs and phone for calls, but you have to handle the phone to initiate and hang up calls. I suppose I could use Siri to make the call, but I still have to hang it up. I appreciate your input.

    @barryalanlevine Před 2 lety +4

100% agree... I'm THE target market for a CIC with wireless connectivity...have been eagerly awaiting this...but the alien antennas are a deal breaker...if they could just find a way to design so that the antenna reliably hides within the concha I would be all over this. Instead, I'm regrettably looking at larger 'wearable' style wireless options, and Starkey would be a strong contender there too if they didn't have gold charging contacts on the outside. I've been wearing Starkey aids for 15+ years and generally very happy with them, but their latest offerings are just too much of a swing and a miss, I feel like they're forcing me to go out look for better alternatives from their competitors.

I’ve been fitted for the Signia Insio C&G 5AX ITC and will pick up next week for a 30 day trial. After researching (your video review mainly) and several years with cheaper aids I’m ready to take the plunge. Based on your Starkey review above for similar model (Evolv AI ITC 2000 or 1600?), how would you rate Signia vs Starkey. As far as the Starkey app, I would never use the ‘Wellness’ functions as I’m fully immersed in the Apple eco system. Regarding the phone apps, seems none ever get great reviews (not sure why?). Anyway, love your videos and reviews. Look forward to your thoughts on above question. 🙏

I have yet to directly review the Insio C&C AX so I wouldn't be able to provide much insight. That said, find the best provider possible that follows Best Practices and you'd probably be happy with either one.

At the 2400 level my hearing care professional was able to adjust them so that the sound is incredibly natural compared to previous hearing aids over the past 16 years. The rechargeable option is well designed. I am still confused about how and when to double tap to use Edge mode. @@kiddzhuang8642 Now almost one year, I am still extremely satisfied. Edge mode is still a bit of a mystery. I have found it most useful in noisy restaurants. I will tap one of my aids forcefully, I hear the bright ringing sound that acknowledges the shift to Edge mode and then over the next five minutes, I get the impression that I am hearing the spoken conversation of my dining companions much more clearly. My only negative experience is that over many months, fine dust particles from the hair over my ears began to interfere with the function of the microphones. It was resolved by using a fine brush over the microphone mechanism after exposing the small plastic shields and then verifying the fix by running the self check routine on the app on my cell phone. You may remind your clients of this possibility on follow up visits to save both of you some time.

I just got a new aid (4th one, second Starkey). They're listed as Audibel RIC 2400 Ai, which are essentially Starkey Evolve Ai 2400, correct? I have a severe loss in my right ear and use a custom mold. My left ear is so bad, an aid doesn't help. I want my settings all ON the aid and not tied to a poorly reviewed thrive app. Previous Starkey aid had the two buttons. Short press changed the volume and long press changed the 4 custom settings. If I heard my audiologist correctly, that should be the same for my new aid. (I use live transcribe when my aid is out so I can read what my audiologist is saying, live transcribe works great and on an older than dirt smartphone no less)
My smartphone wasn't compatible with the Thrive app. So, I doubt I will upgrade to a higher end smartphone when the aid itself is so expensive. Guessing my audiologist did not set my aid up correctly. This is all frustrating when the aid is so complex. She was rushed that day and didn't take the time. I have been seeing the same audiologist for 20+ years. I am going back tomorrow as I am not getting any setting but the normal setting, which I hear when I tap to get the edge feature. Tap again and it says normal. Something isn't right. On the plus side, I barely know I am wearing an aid as I've finally gone tubeless, as my sister (genetic hearing loss in my family ) recommended . The aid and custom mold fits so well and I can tuck that little antenna in my ear.

I feel I need to share my story about Starkey...
I am 57 and have had Starkey aids for about the last 40 odd years...
Always been brilliant for me hence sticking with them...
However, my last aid packed up so wanted to get it repaired, and get a Evolv 312 made...non rechargeable, as a recharge hearing aid fills me with horror!
So, Starkey made a aid smaller than requested by my audiologist, Starkey jump the gun without discussing it with my audiologist, and him with me...
I always need a vent as I have small ear canals, despite the aid having a vent, I felt a total airblock...
We tried for next size up, same problem...
That's when I noticed looking at the vent and speaker of the new aids, they were swapped round compared to my older Starkey aids I have in my possession...
Also Starkey no longer refurbish any aids older then 5 years old...
My audiologist told me out of all the aid manufacters, Starkey is giving him the most problems with unsatisfied customers!
So, end of four plus decades of me wearing Starkey...
Now have a Phonak aid and it's been brilliant so far!
If Starkey had not changed the default positioning of the vent and speaker, I would probably still be wearing Starkey...

Greetings. I just switched to Starkey Evolv 2400 RIC R in 2021 before I changed to Medicare this year. I go to an audiologist who also fit me for my first set of aids in 2016, Lynx Quattro by Resound. I just get the impression the Starkey line is being hyped and wonder if providers get a bonus or some kind of incentive for pushing this line? The features thru the app I could care less about. Like a Bad copy of a Fitbit. My wellness score doesn’t match up because I didn’t have enough social interaction? Bad patient! Anyway, on one of the sites you recommend they felt the best aid if 2022 if the Phonak P70. I want to try it and see. Thoughts?. Thanks so much.

The only incentive is lower Cost of Good pricing for some providers who sell certain products. This is not isolated to Starkey dealers. IN terms of the best hearing aids, the P70s are not even the best hearing aid in the Paradise lineup. That would be the P90's. However, there is no such thing as the "best" hearing aid because everyone's wants and needs are different.

Our car now has a computer capable of several things that I don't want or need. However, I must exercise care to avoid the paths that take me where I really want to go. "Oh!! to get that function you must follow the following sequence". I have also a VFD that I use on my vertical mill to convert single phase power to three phase power. It also allows me to change the machine speed. However the "Quick Start manual was some 287 pages and never provided the info that I needed to just START the mill. It took a phone call and listening to apologies about the quality of the manual. Needless to say, I'm gun shy of hearing aids that perform functions other than just improving my hearing.

I've had my Evolv AI 2400 RIC aids now for 6 months and I'm not impressed. I had them fitted by one of Dr Cliff's recommended providers. My wife still remarks that I can't hear her most of the time. I have to take them out when I exercise outdoors because of the excessive wind noise. The scratching sound from my hair and glasses is constantly annoying. I struggle to hear servers in restaurants. Etc, etc. I spared no expense, wanting the best hearing improvement I could get. But if this is the best you can get for more than $5K then this seems like a scam.

Picked up Evolv AI Micro Ric 2400 (Battery) on 3/17/22 and Bluetooth/Streaming has been a DISASTER! Consistent with Dr. Cliff's remarks about Starkey's very poor Bluetooth performance, streaming is totally unreliable, in one ear, then the other, echo-y, static-y, boomy on phone calls, and the Thrive App freezes and needs to be reinstalled at least once a day!! I have an iPhone 12 and all this bad performance is before AND after installation of the latest iOS update 15.4. Starkey Technical Support staff have been kind and cordial, but have no answers. By comparison, my Oticon Opn 1s perform flawlessly on the same phone with Bluetooth. Bottom line is I will be returning the Starkey's and am considering Phonak P-90s as a replacement but open to your suggestions.

I have hair that would camo the antennas of these IICs, but I also have narrow ear canals-without the loop anchor, these cuties would tend to slide right on out. So you're right (at least in my case), it would have been better to lengthen and curl the antenna.

I tried both “in ear canal” and behind the ear. I put “in canal” in quotes bc it extends well beyond my ear canal. That said, the buttons extend even beyond the extension and conflicted with phone use, which is integral to my job. The behind the ear competes for the minuscule real estate used by my mask and glasses. Both have worse Bluetooth than $80 earbuds. Extremely disappointed with starkey and their 6k price tag for suboptimal design and performance.

@@BrianVallotton You will never find a HA to act like a music earbud, just simple because the receivers in the HA are different than those in an earbud. A HA has only one way while the earbuds have 1 or more ways. I wanted to add the HA circuit of my Starkey 3 series to an earbud, but I was explained by the tech guy that this is impossible. I am wearing Evolv AI 2K and the music can be listened with pleasure. All the above presentation of Dr Cliff is not quite accurate, rating lower features that are working very good, like the BT connection, etc. Good luck in your choices. P.S. I would ask for the computer interface programmer and the programming software. I have those for many years, and I can program the HA's by myself, and not losing time going to the audiologist or now with Evolvs to stay in many calls with the guys. That gave me independence. I don’t like the rechargeable box. Because if you have it on Bluetooth listening to your music, videos, using your gps, talking on your phone etc etc the battery does not last all day. It drains the battery for whatever you may be doing throughout the day / night and you may find yourself re charging it more than once a day. And if you are a person who likes to sleep with them in at night. Rechargeable is not the best bet for you.
