  • The Beaver Blade is only as useful as your machine has clearance for the blade to stick out from under the drive belt cover. On my particular DR walk behind string trimmer the belt housing is so large that only a couple inches of the beaver blade is usable. Further compromising the beaver blades depth of cut is the fact that common brush like privet leans away from the root ball further impacting the depth of cut down to less than an inch as shown in my video. This leads to having to cut the same privet multiple times per plant prematurely dulling your blade.
The First half of the video I show you how to install the Beaver Blade on your string trimmer. It literally is installed by spinning it on hand tight and if you are like me you will question if that is really all it needs to stay on. A 12 inch chainsaw disk spinning at several thousand RPM would be disastrous if it were to come loose and fly away from the machine.
These problems aren’t really an issue with the beaver blade itself as much as they are a problem with my DR. Still don’t think of this product as a game changer that will save you lots of time and effort. In the second half of this video I review the 12” Beaver Blade Attachment Kit for DR Trimmer Mower SKU:A0000146144 I show you in great detail the limitations of the cut.
Product details from the DR website.
    www.drpower.com/Power-Equipme...
“Turn your DR Trimmer Mower into a chainsaw on wheels! Our 12" Beaver Blade can cut woody brush and saplings up to 3" in diameter. This complete package includes the 12" Beaver Blade, a spacer, an aluminum mow-ball support, owner's manual and a 3/16" chain file.
Cut woody brush and saplings up to 3" thick! The DR Trimmer Mower equipped with the Beaver Blade will transform your machine into an amazing brush cutter on wheels-- capable of cutting woody material such as tough berry canes, brush, even hardwood trees up to 3 inches in diameter.
The Beaver Blade's patented circular chainsaw chain-in-groove design allows the chain to absorb some of the sudden shocks and stresses that can easily shatter a fixed-tooth brush blade, because the chain slips slightly in the groove when it hits obstacles. The weight of the machine is supported by the wheels, so there's far less chance for the blade to twist, bind, or kick back.
The 12" Beaver Blade is compatible with DR Trimmer Mowers manufactured from 2000 - present. The Beaver Blade is NOT available for SPRINT or Compact Models of DR Trimmer Mowers.”

The first part of the video is the "How to install the 12" Beaver blade on a DR" section.
Review starts at 5:12 and I think is a must watch for anyone thinking this product will be a game changer. Even with this tool you have lots of work ahead of you when clearing brush.
Just a note on this video. I filmed this February of 2019 and forgot about it. Edited it 4 years later in February of 2023. We have used this tool a lot since filming this video and have worn out the teeth on the blade to the point we need to replace it no sharpening will save it now. In the video I said I was going to install a shed, I went for a 40 foot shipping contain instead.
Thanks for being here if you have any questions please leave a comment and I'll get back with you.

is it worth the money? I have a hill side that I cannot get my tractor bushhog on because it is too steep for a tractor, but I can walk up it or down it. Has saw briars and small 1-2 inch pine trees and other brush I need to cut out of there. Is this a good tool for that?

My first thought is, it's a chainsaw blade. I would think that a 10" or 12" or 15" carbide tooth blade would work but then you don't get the additional adapters. If you hit fencing, steel posts ect. the chainsaw blade is dull but then carbide teeth would fail too. I don't know.

The model number on this was stamped into a metal plate on top of the muffler. Model 121S07-0140-F1, serial #12030162; year 2012

Thanks much. This sure is confusing, isn’t it. How did you get the large diameter mounting shaft for the plastic disks off. I didn’t see that part. Oh ok, now I see. So by using the Phillips driver in the hole in the frame, that locks the upper shaft from turning and the whole thing theads off? disks and all.

I've been trying to find my model # and the best way I've found to narrow it down is to search using the engine size. Mine is a 6.75 intek.

Appreciate the video. How do you feel this blade would be for thick thorns vs the heavy gauge string? I keep snapping string and having to stop to replace it and was thinking a blade might be better.

I just got my beaver blade and was wondering if its necessary to install the brake kit. I thought these already had a brake.

I use a stihl whipper snipper with a saw blade and it's 10x faster than this unit. It cuts 1.5" trunks with a swipe, no pausing. I've upgraded to a DR 30" brush mower to make trail clearing even faster. This unit doesn't seem efficient in comparison.
