  • All that work, all that time... Gone!!!
    Yes, you've guessed it, like so many others, I've made the switch over the LiFePo (Lithium Iron Phosphate) from 18650 chemistry. It took a few days to make the decision but once I began advertising the cells they all sold within 1 week! Can you believe it!? There was nearly 3000 tested cells and they went in a heartbeat - amazing.

    The Lithium iron phosphate chemistry is safer too. Rather than having a raging inferno with 18650's, you simply just get smoke with Lifepo4's.

    I did the exact same thing in September. Sold 20KWh of 18650 and purchased rack mount LiPo. The happiest person afterward... My wife. Walks around the house saying things like, "I'm no longer a battery widow!"😲

    Ya. Time is expensive nowadays. The less work included in building and maintaining a battery should also count to the cost. Not only the actual cost of the cells.

    Pity for not being persistent.. the 18650 would have been the better choice in my mind..

    I'm right on that tipping point but I keep mine around since most of what I have are LG MJ1 cells so.....considering I pulled mine from lightly used E-Bike packs and they all test above 3200mah I think I might keep them for powerbanks and other smaller battery packs for camping/off roading related activities. My brother just bought a 12V compressor for his truck and I don't see him permanently mounting it so it might be nice for him to have a couple 12V 50Ah lithium ion batteries. No need to even turn on the truck and makes it a lot easier to help other people put some air in their tires when you don't have to pop their hood and realize they have some funky battery setup thats a pain to get at (looking at you BMW)
    I'm torn on doing the 16 280Ah raw cells from Alibaba (price seems to be just under $2000) or Trophy batteries.

      Yeah, I paid just over 2000USD for mine. If you've got good cells and a good bms you'll be fine with the 18650s I'm sure. I still have lots of 18650 packs to process and I'll use them to build portable power packs as well

    You did the Right thing selling all your 18650's Sir. I'm sick too testing them from almost 6months :( i didn't cared about the price when I'm buying but later i realised I spent so much money on them, until we make them something useful worthy right?
    and I'm so excited on your next video with those blue bricks Haha nice video btw 👍

    Love the content. For the past 4 year I’ve harvested 18650 they are small fiddly and now have better competition out there. There are however a lot of products that still run on 18650. I repair makita drill batteries and make usb chargers that take up to x16 bought direct from eBay. Would love to see you compare the li Poe with the 18650 in build videos

    • @TheKilowattChallenge
      @TheKilowattChallenge  Před rokem

      Hi Gary! Yeah I'll still be building 18650 packs so I'll be able to compare. Are you selling repaired marital batteries, I hear there's good money in that?

      @@TheKilowattChallenge not selling them just for myself. Making a lot of mistakes, their bms likes chemically identical cells. But that’s how we learn right.? Have a larger powerwall in progress but it’s all about the balancing. Anyways the future is electric. Keep the channel going you are a great presenter. Hny and stay safe.

      @@TheKilowattChallenge you’ve got an RC3563, right? If you don’t then I’m completely making up that video I’m my head. IR and hitting the cells with massive loads are really the only way verify you got grade A. I know people rip on Sun Fun Kits but the owner has some good videos on here. He puts cells under a 100-150 amp load and the garbage cells plummet in voltage while the Grade A hold their own around 3.29
