I criticised San Martin in 2023 for being un-imaginative when it came to their watch dials. Less than one year later they are crushing it.
The last few months have really been something else and I am glad to say I have eaten my fair share of humble pie!
This new range of dials added to the San Martin SN0129 range is just incredible.
Today I review the Lapis Lazuli version and give you my honest take. The quality of watch available on AliExpress is getting scarily good. How good?

Yeah, there's a lot of pyrite inclusions there to break up the blue surface. Absolutely stunning slab of lapis.

Agreed, best dial so far. So we need to buy several and send back the ones that isn’t to our liking.
I had this one in my basket prior to the sale and bought it as soon as the sale opened. Now I'm trying to curb my impatience waiting for it to arrive! The first San Martin I have bought, and I'm loving the way they are moving into more original designs. Just hope the dial I get is as nice as the one on yours John!

Y@daveindevon5240 Yes, the dial from John's version is cool. Because it is real Lapis lazul, every dial is different and one of a kind. I also have it on sale for 275 Euro. and he's on his way too. now wait I also hope for a nice dial

I have the ice blue wave dial version, which I held off buying for quite awhile due to the polished center links. Now that I have the watch, it’s beautiful and gets more compliments than any of my other watches and is perhaps the only watch I’ve had with polished center links that I could tolerate- to the point that I actually like it. This watch is so good that I am now waiting for the aventurine dial version to arrive, so I’ll have two versions of this watch, this time without having to worry about too much bling from the bracelet. Hopefully my wife won’t put me in a 12 step program when she finds out that I have two of these!

I'm having a hard time deciding between 5 gmts. This one, the green san martin, the cronos Pepsi tudor gmt, the cronos Pepsi gmt master 2, and the seestern gmt. All watches are within $100 of each other, and all offer something unique. Decisions, decisions. I'm off the go pickup my tissot from the po box.

I also think that a flat crystal would better suit this dial.
Rumour is that san Martin will be releasing these in non gmt movements, nh35. That would be great, as I think gmt movements have been over used since the nh34 came to market.

Ordered the aventurine in the sale for £211. There can't be a better finished watch on the market for that price. Was tempted by the lapiz dial but I didn't want to gamble on getting a patern I didn't like.

A bit of slope on the bezel and a slightly domed crystal would have definitely made it look thinner. My main issue however is that it is a GMT. I don't want a watch that keeps reminding me to go on a holiday.

@johnswatchjoint I hope so :) I'm pumped, but I'm want the green gmt as well. However, I felt the stone dials will have their run and then be changed or discontinued. The price pretax of $268 was also a big factor as that's a good discount for a 1 of 1 dial.

Thank you. It does help greatly as this is an expensive venture ...but as seen on Ben's Watch Clubs last video...many seem to think that you can only be truthful if you buy in the watch and then sell it at a loss after the review or it becomes an advert?!?!

I own several San Martin's, and none have enough AR-coating. What's the point in such a beautiful dial if you can't see it because of the glare?

This watch is very legible. In the video you can see that telling the time is no problem.
Has anyone else gotten word of a large delay in shipping for this watch?
They say watches aren't available and they need time to get materials and produce them.

When did you order? Deliveries take anywhere between 8 days and 3 weeks depending on your location. Patience my man :)
@johnswatchjoint unfortunately, they haven't even shipped yet. Apparently, they had a large amount of orders and not enough stock. It's a bit frustrating because they "have hundreds available" on their website, but apparently not in reality. I ordered on the 27th and they are telling me I might not get shipping till after the 15th of this month.

...a little disappointing but not bad. It is a very popular watch and 19 days overall, some would consider normal. I usually have to wait that amount of time for any Baltany order I place... possibly longer.

Occasionally I use this phone app too. You should take the beat error reading with a pinch of salt. Often the real timegrapher tells me something completely different. You should invest in one.

Quite simple really. I wear a lot of 37mm and 38 mm watches. Because the top bezel is inside the outer case size, next to my 38 mm Vario there is no visual difference in size. Thanks for watching ;)
The only thing I don't like about San Martin is the name San Martin.. sounds corny.
