      Really appreciate the step by step instructions. I probably spend a little more time in games like Donkey Kong, Pacman, Dig Dug then I do fighting games so would these changes be neutral or positive changes?

      @@brianph9656 You are probably better off with the 4 way restrictor plate for classic games. The 8 way would feel muddled, making precise movements much more difficult. Go with the 4 lb springs for sure, giving you a tad more resistance making your movements more precise.

    Question: the new micro switches have 3 prongs, one silver on top snd two gold on the side. The stock ones only have 2 silver. Which one on the side should I use?
    2nd question: getting the connectors off the micro switches is pretty easy with the pliers like you show, but how do you get the connectors to fit snug on the new micro switches? They seems to want to slide off.

    • @cooltoy
      @cooltoy  Před 3 lety +2

      Silver prong is for your black ground wire, the closest prong to the silver prong will be what you connect your color wire to. You can use a pair of pliers to compress the ends of the connectors in a little bit to get them to fit more snuggly on the terminal prongs if you need to.

  • @joekraemer1602
    @joekraemer1602 Před 4 lety

    I’d just like to add that my ALU, which came directly from atgames, has a different format for the control panel. It doesn’t have sides with a removable bottom like yours, instead, the sides and bottom are all one piece and it’s a bit trickier to remove. You also can’t leave it off if you want to secure the panel back the cabinet firmly. Some of the screws and predrilled holes are different sizes too, so I wasn’t able add an after-market flight stick like I’d hoped to...

    • @cooltoy

      Jim Sokaitis for the majority of gamers the stock sticks are perfectly fine with some minor changes like the gates and bat tops. Octagonal gates are better suited for fighting games. Pac-Man wouldn’t really benefit from the octagonal gates, however it does benefit from the spring upgrade to a 4lb spring, as it allows for a little more precise movements with the joysticks due to the increased stiffness.

      I have a solo version and I personally think they are pretty good, I also think the company should upgrade their design a little bit say for adding a pie inside or a trackball and spinner on the solo. these sticks have been around for a long time now.

    You got magic pliers. I've tried 10 pliers, spanners, nail clippers,piercing pliers. Clamp piercing pliers. Can't get C clip off. The buttons however i was able to do by hand no problem. Also my joystick PCB has flippers yours are bare microswitches that's kind of weird.

      It can be a pain. I had some trouble at first watching this video. I have a newer ALU btw. What I ended up doing and this is with the joystick, switches, gate all still installed. You got to just force the c clip off with a flathead screw driver, I ended up doing this for both of mine tonight, I didn't bother with trying to push the plastic piece down, just force that c clip off and watch because that stuff will pop out. I changed two springs tonight and 2 more tomorrow on another ALU, hope that helps.

    a little disclaimer if you plan on changing your restrictor gates it looks like you have the sams club arcade I have the Wallmart version I bought the gates in your link but I was surprised to see when I opened the control panel it came stock with Octagonal Restrictor Gates, oh well they didn't cost very much and I guess I should have been able to tell without taking it apart but just posting this to save some people a few bucks if you have the Walmart version it already comes with the Octagonal Restrictor Gates stock

    Hey Doug, finally deciding to upgrade my gates, springs & buttons/switches as I'm finding myself spending more time playing my Legends as of late, and I'm getting annoyed with cruddy buttons and the "boing " sound when they depress..
    I have two questions. Will all of these suggestions work on the 1 1 cab as well?
    And two, as far as the button removal goes, if I buy the wrench, will that suffice to get them off?
    Don't own a hair dryer as I shave my head 😆😆
    Thanks in advance 👍

      @cooltoy  Před 2 lety +1

      The 1.1 comes with octagonal gates already so you can ignore that part. The nut wrench could be enough to get those stock buttons out, depending on how much hand torque you can generate to break the glue.

    Would be possible to bypass the main board? Something like adding an encoder to plug all the buttons to a pi or a computer directly, without even bother to run the main board.
    I see that the cabinet has a ethernet port, an HDMI port and it would be possible to disconnect the speakers and add an small amplifier that output a 3.5mm jack to plug directly to the output of a standard realtek in a pc. Not sure how much the LED strip is sucking but I would expect 5V or 12V a molex connector from a PC would supply the 12V to light it up.
    Beside that, I don't see anything else that is out of ordinary; and that would save the hassle to swap into OTG mode every time. since you used an odroid board with this cabinet I was wondering why not going fully modded and replace the main board too.

    • @cooltoy
      @cooltoy  Před 4 lety

      F C you absolutely could do that, but honestly for most people that would actually be a downgrade. I choose not to replace the main board because simply put it’s more capable than a pi or odroid. Not necessarily in its power, but in its ability to play games through steam, byog, or arcadenetlink through my gaming pc. Having the stock PCB allows me to play any and every kind of game pretty much imaginable through my gaming pc streaming to my AtGames cabinet.

    • @fcf8269
      @fcf8269 Před 4 lety +1

      @@cooltoy I see your point. Considering that you can get game streaming on a PI or any single board computer with decent power and good network; and that you have to go through hoops to get your external roms and cores to work on the main board; I thought it is more convenient to replace it, if you have a replacement board of course.
      Many buy this cabinet to have an all inclusive setup, and that's fair; but for everyone else that build their own cabinets; may be worth replace the main board. After all, there is not much offered on the main services that can't be done with a pi, odroid, lattepanda and similar; and with remote play services via Steam and similar, you get anything else those boards can't play. Thanks for your insight
