My interpretation was that Crocubot is one of the lizards who somehow ended up being robotised, giving him a foot in both camps as it were.
Can we talk about how cool rick was with the bot. Dude gives shit to literally everyone in the galaxy and subsequent parallel universes but he’s super chill with the robot that almost blew him away. Just a super genuine “No problem. At ease solder”. Idk why but that stuck out to me.
Its like speaking with a savaant: robots are fucking stupid but are very specialized. He shows it kindness as expectantly as the robot knows its the lieutenant its speaking to.

Rick is a rebel at heart and tends to side with the oppressed and against systems of control. Machines are more sentient to him than people who mindlessly serve some greater organization. It's why in ep 1 he justified shooting the federation because they're "robots" and then clarified "it's a metaphor, they're bureaucrats". I'm guessing because of his dealing with the citadel of ricks, an organization built entirely out of other ricks, is shitty. If the place you built, out of people who are you is evil, I can see why that might shake one's confidence in the goodness of that kind of social structures. He doesn't have any moral qualms about what he does to get ahead, but does tend to root for the underdog generally speaking.

Given the additional context of Rick losing his wife (Diane), it makes sense that he would feel a level of empathy for someone he would otherwise care little to nothing about.
Something I don't see anyone pointing out is how the guy wasn't even using his dead wife as an excuse to use the toilet. He was just saying it was nice thing compared to what's been happening to him recently, ie, having a dead wife.

I honestly don’t remember which tbh, but yeah the whole premise of the episode was going to be that Jeff couldn’t poop in front of the group, and Abed is the one that finds out. Apparently the idea was scrapped and later repurposed for Rick and Morty

Ah so I think I get it now, rick travels to find a version of this guy who still poops on a version of another Rick's toilet but had his wife still. He does this for the guy who lost his wife for some comfort, he didnt need to at all and could have just said dont use my toilet but they both have some things in common that made rick feel for the guy. That and even if a version of him still had his wife, he still feels like using the toilet even without the stress of grief for his wife and he obviously used another version of that guy to take his anger out on

Plus everything else with this episode was fucking amazing. That's the beauty of this show. They can take such a concept as absurd as a guy owning and willing to kill for his own personal toilet and actually turn it into the amazing abstract piece of art that makes you feel something deep. Funnily enough this episode gives you an astonishing look into the mind of Rick and the premise of the episode was bat-shit. God this show is amazing!

I really do love how all of Rick's usual Rick like habits that all other Ricks demonstrate stem from a very different reason that makes him a different kind of Rick. Most Ricks don't like being told what to do, and on the surface it's just because they're all just narcissistic assholes that don't respect any authority other than their own.
