In terms of recent departures from City, Palmer had a good tournament in the time he played, scoring in the final, Laporte was a standout at CB, Gundogan looked great for Germany. Outside of Julian Alvarez Manuel Akanji Rodri Nathan Ake etc, who did well at the EUROs or the Copa América, there’s a noticeable trend when it comes to Manchester City players outside of Pep Guardiola’s system in major tournaments when they for their country and they’re being exposed as systems players. Even though Kyle Walker made the team of the tournament there were other right backs better then him and if you judge him for not being a systems player because of that, I’m not saying he is, then you don’t understand how to watch football with your eyes. The defenders have done well, Alvarez too maybe because towards the end of the season, he barely played, but 3 of their best attacking players historically speaking haven’t been able to translate their club form onto the international stage.
You look at Phil Foden for example, he was voted as the best player in the premier league last season and he’s always firing on all cylinders when he plays for his club, but with the England national team, he’s a shadow of his former self and he ghosts for most of the time. Kevin De Bruyne for Belgium in major tournaments has been average at times he’s played well and has had his moments, but again, it’s not at the level we see from him at Manchester City. He’s the only world class player in a subpar team. People will say “ he scored a goal at the EUROs”, Bernardo Silva since 2018 has only scored 1 goal for Portugal in major tournaments and for a player of his caliber, it’s not good enough and beyond his stats, he looks lost when he plays for his national team in general. Sergio Aguero even before playing under Pep, he didn’t have a lot of standout moments for Argentina and wasn’t able to start over Gonzalo Higuain. Some of this is down to how robotic Pep’s system is for these players because he takes away the individual creativity and brilliance from these players which explains why some of them look lost in different systems when they play for their country because you have to actually step up and play with freedom and responsibility. Even Jack Grealish at one point he was one of the best players in the premier league, he was an exciting player to watch during his time at Aston Villa where he was taking risks and was actually beating his defenders and winning fouls and we saw how good he was off the bench for England at the EUROs in 2020, at Manchester City under Pep, he doesn’t suit this role as a touchline winger as he’s more of a sideways passer he doesn’t take a lot of risks and he barely makes an impact and take defenders 1v1 like he used to and he wasn’t even picked for the national team. At least for Pep, as long as the players are playing within his system they’ll continue to do well and that explains why Manchester City has been the most dominant team in English football in the last couple of years, at the same time his system comes at a cost based off of what we’ve seen from their best attackers in recent tournaments.

In all seriousness, what specifically is racist about the chant/song of the Argentine players? Virtually the entire French team is made up of Black players whose parents and grandparents came from former French African colonies. That’s a fact. And Mbappe is widely known for having dated a trans female model for a period of time. That’s a fact. What exactly is racist about players singing lyrics that are straight facts? France has its own internal issues with radical racist elements of the French population not liking the fact most of the French team are Black players of very recent African immigrant background. But how exactly does that make what the Argentine players were chanting racist? Their tongue-in-cheek chanting was actually factual. I can’t help but feel that a lot of non-native Spanish speaking media outlets who don’t understand a word of Spanish are running with yet another “racism” story without actually bothering to understand what was said, let alone the very real world realism of the lyrics of the chant.

@@Photosoflife Argentina is a very racist country. Do some research about how they are ethnically cleansing the country of black and indigenous people! Educate yourself before making comments. That's the first thing. Also, noone cares about whether it's the truth or not. The question is what was the intent of the song? And why mentions African black players in such way when other players such as Griezmann, Hernandez, Zidane, djorkaeff, etc... who are white looking and of foreign descent are not looked upon as "NOT FRENCH" Zidane is of African descent and never was his nationality as French questionned by Argentinians. The issue is Argentinians have a deep problem with black people representing foreign white nations and Hispanic nations especially when those Black players are dominant and the figure head of those nations such as Brazil. That's rooted in their historic disdain toward black people as the history of Argentina evidently shows.

Because it wasn't racist but facts. I'm black and we all questions France about the number of black players they have on the team. Saying they should represent their roots. People even made jokes about it being a African team, even the French media says it. Most of who bashing Enzo are hypocrites.

I think what we really saw was why City never signed Rice despite the hype. Same with a few others.
Foden was great when he was played in position and had ex City player Palmer on the same wave lenght as him. Walker and Stones both stand out players for England. Akanji and Rodri same for their teams.
Did Spains winning goal come from down the "City" side of the pitch? Nah, it came from down the side where Southgate left a City player at home who can lockdown the left.

Busquets & Rodri (DLPs) vs Kante are v different players - Kante is a roaming disruptor with quick distribution who always played ahead of another deeper lying player be it Drinkwater or Matic or Matuidi etc... In a 3 he's a defensive 8 or played in a double pivot. A CDM doesn't automatically mean a DLP
