    If you are in the market looking for a reliable and accurate oxygen monitor, then we have a great recommendation for you! In this video, we review our favorite oxygen monitor. The Wellue O2 ring is one of the best pulse oximeters we have come across. It offers so many features that a standard clip on oximeter can offer. For example, the ring has a vibration alarm sensor that can alert you when your blood oxygen saturation levels are too low, or when you heart rate is abnormal. For more information on this cool product, check out the product reviews and descriptions on the Wellue website or on Amazon reviews. Good luck finding the best oxygen monitor for you!

      As part of the college of physicians we are bound by certain obligations. It's not that the vid is bad (it's great), however I do agree the content steps up to the line of endorsement and doesn't dive into the FDA approval of these 'consumer' devices. There are article dedicated to this. E.g only 2 of the tested devices was able to match gold-standard ratings. *English version*: you might be endorsing a product that has over 20% variation. Imagine having this much variation on a COPD/ILD or patient CSA or OSA... False readings could kill them. You're in the big leagues now and ppl whole trust you because of your designation... there's a reason why physicians have a certain style of CZcams video. If you're going to make a comparison video disclosing from a MD/physicians point of view you probably want to start by beginning to see these consumer devices are even close to medical grade equipment used in the hospital.
      TL:DR if our undergraduate medical board saw us posting something like this - we'd get a professional flag and nice discussion about the roles and responsibilities of being a public servant.
      Your heart(s) are in the right place just be careful about the above

      @@CajunKoiAcademy I just purchased the Garmin Venu SQ, which looks to have the same sensor on the back of it as the vivosmart 4. The accuracy so far is horrible, even when sitting completely still. I've compared it to two finger tip pulse ox units. It has read my spo2 anywhere between 91 and 99 when the finger tip units are hovering around 94 to 95 at the exact same time. Often it won't even finish reading my oxygen and tell me to check the fit. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend the Garmin watch types. It's a bummer since it would be nice to have something ready to use at any time that isn't also awkward looking or feeling to wear.

    Doctor recently had me wear one of these rings for an in-home sleep study and it made me realize how superior it is vs. my finger clamp style sp02 monitor which requires 2x AAA batteries (instead of being rechargeable via USB like the ring) ,the ring just slides on and stays put while the finger clamp monitor requires extra work to prevent it from falling off overnight and it feels heavy compared to the ring, the clamp monitor also burns through AAA batteries in 3 overnight sessions. the current $159 asking price from wellue's site doesn't seem to bad all things considered.

    I don't think it's ever going to be a substitute for a cpap machine. At best it gives you an additional data point you can use to help verify the effectiveness of your sleep therapy treatment because AHI alone can often be misleading. Great video! Keep them coming.

      It is not meant to do the job of a cpap machine but it is of great value for counterchecking your AHI results. It measures the real thing : your oxygen level, not your respiration which most CPAP machines rely on with very poor accuracy.

It says if the number falls under yellow, contact your doctor. I have a new O2 ring and the sync to my phone is very intermittent. As doctors, does it concern you that the Wellue CheckMeO2 is FDA cleared whereas the O2Ring is not. I.e. the CheckMe is a medical device that had was reviewed but the FDA (i.e. Wellue had to provide test reports in a 510k) but the O2Ring has not had any review. It is "listed", which means that it's on a list of things they make but has had no review. The CheckMe saves more frequent data than the O2Ring but no idea if there's any difference in their accuracy. (Many people use the O2Ring to monitor sleep apnea.)

I'm a bony SOB 😅 The best perfusion readings I got were (you guessed it) at the ends of my fingers. Might as well stick with a clip-on pulseox. Hospitals take their readings from there or behind the ear for a good reason. Don't mess with tried and true medical science for being "fashionable".

    I have sleep apnea, and my insurance didn't cover a CPAP. I was going to buy one out of pocket, but they are all $900 or more. I couldn't afford it. So, I was constantly waking up tired in the morning, and - on occasion - waking up in the middle of the night GASPING for air. I felt like I was choking to death. I bought this ring a few months ago, and since I've begun wearing it I'm getting much better sleep and not waking up gasping (or not enough to remember it). In my case, I have no choice but to use it as a substitute for CPAP. I've used CPAP during sleep studies, and I tend to rip it off in my sleep. For some reason, my nose will block up in the night and I start mouth-breathing. Any one who's worn a CPAP knows, this doesn't work. The machine will force air down your nose and out through your mouth. So even if I could afford one, they don't work for me without loading up on Sudafed every night (which I've heard isn't great for your heart or blood pressure). This ring really seems to work for me so far, although sometimes I swear it will go off when I know I'm breathing just fine (Hard to tell when you're asleep. I'm probably not.)

      Davide Martella hey thanks for watching! Yes the app will record readings that drop to critical values that you can custom set yourself, and after a nights rest you can see how often you dropped. But that’s in the app itself it doesn’t send you notification to your widget or email for example. Hope that answered your question!

      Same issue here, 3 weeks later. No place to enter that discount code. It also appears that Wellue no longer accepts standard credit card payments, and *ONLY* accepts PayPal. The purchase processing will throw a spurious error back if you try to purchase with a non-PayPal method, and redirect you back to the PayPal window to try again. Looks like they've still got some work to do before they're fully scaled up to do online purchases.

    I bought this ring. Waste of money as it is so unreliable. One night it works. Another it drops out and records only individual minutes. O2 percentages vary by 3-5 percentage points. If you are used to a typical fingertip pulse ox device - this will show a lower and more variable value. Unless you can secure it around a thumbnail or fingernail. Easily scratched surface means it is unreturnable. Material is cheap and flimsy. But the cost isn’t cheap.

    • @nolaonyt

      FDA registered, not approved. To test the accuracy, compare to another device, such as when you go for a doctor's visit. I noticed the oxygen was 3 units below my actual o2 level. I found the heart rate to be the same as my blood pressure machine and spot oxygen oximeter. However, sending mine back this weekend because I didn't realize you are connected to Bluetooth the entire time you are sleeping. This is unfortunate. They should only have Bluetooth enabled when transmitting the data to the app. Some good features, but that is a deal breaker, for me.

    No information on accuracy? Studies show many of these home pulse oximeters are almost like random number generators.

    • @CajunKoiAcademy
      @CajunKoiAcademy  Před 4 lety

      Robert Voigt yup you are correct, home pulse oximeters in general are all over the place because of many factors mostly related to the user such as having poor circulation, long nails, device slipping, so we went ahead and calibrated ours with the ones at my work in the hospital to feel better about it’s accuracy. Overall, this high quality one does perform more consistently than cheap ones we’ve tried in the past. But still it is not FDA approved for diagnosis of any diseases, you still are recommended to go to the doctor for standardized care. But its a good solution for people who want some kind of reading at home!

    • @tiger355
      @tiger355 Před 3 lety

      @@CajunKoiAcademy Per several studies I have read comparing clinical level pulse oximeters to retail units, the inaccuracy increases as you try to measure blood oxygen below 90%. Above 90 % and retail level units are fairly accurate, but even then most are not FDA approved due to a higher degree of inaccuracy compared to clinical machines. The retail unit will be advertised as FDA approved it it was. They wouldn't leave that out to the advertisement. The only way you can begin to test a retail pulse oximeter is to monitor a person(s) who has readings regularly below 90 % and calibrate against a clinical level machine.
