I think it's because his knight was kinda deep in enemy territory, so he didn't wanna lose it, I'm not sure though, I haven't really played through this game yet.
actually no.. he barely took 2 - 3 seconds, just because he might been thinking: "dam i dont like this opening" or something.. A case that was much more impressive is from Anand 2700 rating and he took 1:24 out of 5 min in the semi finals only on the 4th move, look it up even commentaries were like OMG MOVEE
Steven Zhou Karjakin know what he doing. He prefers to give a tempo rather than going to the Najdorf where Gelfand is recognized as one of the specialists
+Steven Zhou It's really quite stupid to assume a top grandmaster would lack experience, especially when it comes to something basic as spending tempos.
did i say that i love your channel?
because i do...its like my favorite channel among all of my subscriptions! keep the videos coming :)
must be very easy for you to say that at home with your computer without time pressure and without have been played about 20 games before.
It looks like the guy on the right is texting while waiting for his turns.

Mixture of sicilian. Nadjorf and dragon
It was a Chekhover and when Gelfand played a6 instead of Nc6 it bcame a Maroczy version of a Najdorf Dragon....
1:32 Gelfand texting
hes playing with a piece
@calleroev ya i think thats the normal now for all blitz

nice chess board!
Is it Fishcer-time? 3 | 2?
0:46 BAM!
And what if Rb1 And then Rb3?
Gelfand won because he had more time on the clock and had Karjakin hopelessly checked. Is that right?
No,he lost because at the final after Rh1 check Ke2,TxT,KxT,BxKnight
+Kevin Holland karjakin lose his knight at the end
i like the flags in the table :)
He always has.
I can’t believe how fast karjakin saw the line and he resigned, it was like 0.500 lol it took from me a year to see it
like the way his shake hands
he will always have the spare queen :)
Bb2 Rb1 Ba3: Rb3 might be the problem.
yep
Why did he give up before the checkmate?
Julian Van Deyl He is losing his knight, after checking the king, trading rooks. And then Gelfand takes the knight with discovered check.
That's it!
I am guessing that I am the only one that noticed or even remotely cares that they are using different pieces?
Yes, that's a constructive observation for the game.
4:18 I saw that move right away
gelfand ofc
2:03 - 2:15 - Karjakin has very flexible thumb. :)
0:41 third move and he is already thinking? o.o
Karjakin voted "i don't like"...
1.Nxa8? Nce2+ 2.Kh1 Rxa8 and he got two pieces for the rook.
time battle!!

Gelfand uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
at 0:35 anyone notice Gelfand misses the clock? Lol
сколько смотрю, всё думаю, нельзя русского диктора нанять?
0:00-0:34-Gelfand sleeping.....;-)
Geldfand is sleeping or what?
poor Karjakin
white plays the opening very bad... the black bishop...
I can’t believe how fast karjakin saw the line and he resigned, it took from me forever to see the line lol
more your head out!
Wrong move karja
a3? es mala. Su idea es no perder el peón a pero al cambiar el alfil negro tiene mucho juego y el negro nada. Despues Qc5 con igualdad!
He outclassed him from the 1st move 😂
Qxd4 shows white's inexperience giving black tempos
at 0:59

You just don't know the theory to The Chekhover Variation to the Sicilian.
You better study your openings!
