  • The plaintiff says she hired the defendant on her wedding day to do makeup for her and her seven bridesmaids, but the woman never showed, so she’s suing for the cost. The defendant claims she lost her phone and couldn’t contact the bride, and says her contract covers emergencies, so she’s not responsible.

I see a lot of comments about her fee being low. She agreed to it and her dissatisfaction with her own lowball fee certainly doesn’t excuse ghosting a bride. She had a contract and where’s her sense of right and wrong. This is a ladies wedding why would you ever do that to another person. The defendant is DEAD WRONG!!!!

The MUA lowballed herself. I would never agree to get paid $250 for 7 people On top of needing to travel 2+ hours one way. That is easily $800 STARTING OFF. The MUA decided it wasn’t worth it and didn’t go so she absolutely needs to refund her. Next time, don’t undercharge yourself. I wouldn’t have gotten up for $250 either 🤷🏾‍♀️ now, $800-$1000 on the other hand… I’ll be there early 😂

I work in the wedding industry, and the worst thing a vendor can do is fail to show up on the wedding day. Sadly, there are countless individuals simply calling themselves wedding professionals (from make-up artists to florists to photographers to wedding planners) just because they have the ability to set up a pretty website and hand out business cards. A professional does not charge below the industry standard (because it devalues the profession), and $245 for photo-ready make-up on seven women is WAY below the industry standard. We tell every bride that a cut rate price is often the sign of an amateur or hobbyist. That was the case here. I feel awful for the bride in this case (and knew from the beginning that she'd recoup her money). The only thing she did wrong was trying to avoid paying for a real professional. You get what you pay for.

Always charge your worth! I used to lowball myself bc I was afraid they wouldn’t want to work with me if I charged more, or didn’t realize I *should* be charging more. You end up subconsciously resenting the clients or not doing your absolute best when you should only be mad at yourself.
But you have to always follow through and do better for yourself for the next time. if it’s not in their budget then they need to find someone who is. Periodtttttt

The make up artist has literally no defense. Loosing her phone is not an excuse. She said her son had a phone, and I’m sure she has a computer/laptop/iPad...if she didn’t know their phone numbers by heart to memory she could have signed in to her cell phone acct which has a record of every number for incoming/outgoing call and text. She made no effort to do anything but track her lost phone. Maybe she changed her mind, was tired from the night before and didn’t wanna do it, but then you refund the lady her damn money.

Any decent person should know that’s not even feasible, with supplies and travel expenses alone! She’s just as guilty...she was clearly taking advantage! That’s not even considerate...I would never allow someone that’s doing me a service like that travel 2 hours and do 7 bridesmaids + myself for less than $1000. $250 for the full make-up of a bride, six bridesmaids and the mother of the groom? That's ridiculously cheap. She should have charged $200 for the bride, $100 for each bridesmaid and/or mothers of either the bride or the groom. That would cover the cost of her time, the travel expense, the cost of the products used, and any additional costs. Good cosmetics are expensive, and knowing what you're doing via the courses aren't cheap, and the years spent learning the craft, it all adds up.

She ended up getting stuck in massive traffic on the way (she was traveling from out of state) and was late. No biggie! Another cousin ended up doing my hair and I did my own makeup. My two bridesmaids, my husband’s sisters, did their own hair and makeup. We had a beautiful but simple ceremony in a little chapel and a kickass reception at a country club. Everyone had a blast and the world didn’t end because I had to improvise on my hair and makeup. I would’ve gotten married in my pajamas, I didn’t care, lol. The day was about my husband and I sharing our love with our family. It wasn’t about hair, makeup, flowers, cake, and all the other crap that people (*cough* brides *cough*) stress and turn into bridezillas over.
