Bonnets were popular for all women of all walks of life until the last 50 years.

This has convinced me, I’m getting a bonnet. I’m so tired of my hair being tangled, I’ve seen NOTHING but amazing results from bonnets. Thank you ❤️

A bonnet is the best thing I've ever. My hair has natural wave and some curl and at night it was getting crazy frizzy and so tangled. Helped me so much getting a bonnet. So amazing and what a difference it makes

Love this is not a matter of race is a hair care thing , it makes such a difference!!!! When I use one my hair is at its 100 best the next day otherwise I have super fine dry brittle hair and it gets badddd I will have tangles and knots and breakage bad , but w one my hair is Silky soft and feels much healthier the next day , shaming people over the most petty things these days people gotta get a life and happiness so you stop worrying about others so much I wish I started using one sooner I like to bleach and color my hair sometimes and it gives me a lot of damage so this is a game changer , not much works for my hair type but this helps , it’s as important as skin care , we need to take the time to care for our body’s , face , hair and soul

I have 2A/2B hair. I started wearing a bonnet to bed becausebI was dealing with breakage and frizz before and honestly my hair has been looking so good, no breakage no flyaways. I think it really helps

Question from someone curious about bonnet wearing practices:
I don't know hair types, but I'm a white woman, 40yrs old, with long straight hair. Each hair strand is thin, and easily broken, but I have a lot of hair. People used to call it "baby fine". It tangles in seconds of being down (unbraided) if I'm moving around normally.
I always have my hair in a single S braid, day and night.
I have tons of broke little hairs I call fly aways, in the hair on my head, before they get to the protective braid.
My question is, if I wear a bonnet at night, would I keep my hair in the braid, or would I wear it down?

I am also a white lady with long hair. In my experience, it really depends on what you find most comfortable. They make bonnets to fit all lengths of hair, so if you are worried about making it fit, it's not necessary. Some people find sleeping on a braid uncomfortable, so if you are not used to it, I would recommend not doing it.
Basically, however you normally treat your hair for bed + a bonnet. But do make sure it's fully dry, otherwise it will likely still be wet when you wake up.

@youdidntseeanything8589 yeah, of course! If I may add, it may take a couple of tries to find a style of bonnet you like and find comfortable to sleep in, so just go for the inexpensive ones at first. They can get quite pricey, depending on where you purchase from. No reason to spend a bunch of money on an item you end up not liking.

I didn’t know people gatekept bonnets till now. I have seen plenty of women with straight hair wear a bonnet. Especially because your hair will obviously get messy if you don’t have one?

    • @sillywilly123
      @sillywilly123 Před měsícem

Not so much gatekeeping but negative association the media spreads that black women wearing bonnets aren't dressed properly, don't have 'good' hair and are probably loud, embarrassing and don't care.

My hair is like coils like it wants to be wavy but looks like twists and it’s past the middle of my back and I just got 18 inches off. I wonder if this could work for me and tame the frizz. My mom had straight bright red hair and I have dark brown/black hair and growing up my mom tried to take care of my hair and sadly I’m grown and still can’t take care of my hair right so I just wear a bun☹️

Definitely give it a go! Less than a hundred years ago, people with your hair type and your mum's hair type used scarves and bonnets (sometimes called "night caps", but not to be confused with the drink! 😉) to protect their hair. It seems to have fallen out of fashion in recent years, but it worked well for centuries prior to that.
It's worth a go. I'd recommend something made from a comfortable fabric, that isn't elasticated (so you don't wake up with a big elastic mark round your head). They don't have to be expensive, but it's all about finding what is comfortable and effective for you.
      Good luck! 💕🍀👍

We're not the ones separating the race as whites or whatever you want to call us. I don't see a difference in race as long as there is no attitude.
