- After spending time with the new PS Portal, I think it deserves a bit more credit than people are giving it.

They really should have included Bluetooth with it too 🤔

HELL NO DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY on a handheld monitor for your ps5
thanks for watching my video byeeeeeeeeeeee
I agree 100%. Plus WiFi 6 was needed for reducing any lagging issues like you said in the video. No Web Browser well that’s a WTF Sony in my book. They seem to not care lately about their customers. Look at what they’re doing with their online premium service by raising the price way up an offering very little each month. Unfortunately, I’m stuck until 2025 with that service but after that, I don’t think I’m going to continue with that service.
how about no? I personally love getting ass fucked by Sony with proprietary paywall to wireless audio. And god I'm so happy I not only have to own a PS5 to use it but also can't use it outside the home. I think they handled the PS Vita absolutely perfectly and to see them branch away from that form of handheld to master this add-on, damn we aren't worthy. would have paid 450 for this true PSP, my only complaint is it uses type c and not a Sony connector sigh
Yeah locking blue tooth a grimy move to your customer
Don't give me bs that our head phones only give you best sound true with virtual sound etc obviously it would and should synchronize properly that should be there regardless but not letting us Link other head phones slap to consumer
It needs more features and support, if they added the ability to use the Portal as a controller with the screen working as a minimap or additional HUD elements from the game that would make it even better.
You want the wiiu. (Ps: we have one and still using it).
@@TEKDAD pretty much
There's a game on the PS4 called Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles which would had work best for this type of game, it's too bad Square Enix ended support on that already.
Sony did some things like this with the VITA and PSP. I remember in Gran Turismo it was a rear view mirror.@@TEKDAD
PS Backbone is better. Been using it for 2 years and love it. Confidently convenient!
Updated Backbone for iPhone 15 Pro Max even better, they improved triggers and buttons, and most importantly fits phones with case on…easy peasy.
Am I the only one that has forgotten about the vita? I mean you could connect it to your PlayStation 4 and exactly what this PlayStation portable does. Pretty much do everything that this PlayStation portable does. Except the portable it’s only an accessory. You can’t play games separately on it like you could Vita. The PS Vita was way better than this portable thing that they wanna gaslight you and tell you was awesome. It was killed out way before it’s time and now we have this.
I think your nostalgic memories of the Vita are swaying your perception of it. It was not a great device and today would be a horrible move for Sony. To try and pack anything even remotely close to the power of the PS5 into a handheld would likely cost even more than the PS5 itself! Plus, game studios would now have a brand new console they'd have to develop software for which is more software that'd we would have to buy. That's what killed the Vita and nothing is different today that would change the fate of a Vita 2.
@@Rbbrdcky you are incorrect, Vita failed due to multiple reason and some of it is cause of Sony. The Vita use propertery Micro SD cards which were expensive for the storage you get meanwhile you can get the same storage size for much cheaper from 3rd party Micro SD cards also the WiFi/3G model of the vita the 3G sim card was bound to the Vita instead making the Sim card removable so you ant bound to ATT's 3G service if you dont have or hate ATT services plus Vita came out during the time when mobile gaming on smartphones and tablets were at the highest. Vita could of succeeded if Sony didnt make dumb decesions.
@@joeyreidelbach5509 "Content is King"
@@Rbbrdckythe vita failed because Sony was stupid and charged way too much for proprietary memory cards and simply didn’t support the device. Both Sonys fault
@@legacysquid0625 Everyone keeps mentioning these proprietary memory cards but I don't remember that being something I cared about back then. Pretty sure the bundle I purchased came with a card and I never thought about it again. So I find it hard to believe that one thing was the downfall of an entire console.
My dude forgot we could remote play on our PS3's using our psp's too. I used to do that whenever I left a ps1 disc in my ps3 and I could remotely play it on my psp anywhere that had wifi 👍
I enjoy this console especially being a father my kids take over the TV sometimes so this is pretty neat for me and I don't leave home often
You nailed it on this review keep it up bro
What was the game with the police car?
I’m interested in the portal since I don’t have access to my tv due to family using it.
U can get a 200 dollar monitor where the graphics would look better then on the portal
I have iuess with it keeps on lossing the internet any ideas to stop if freezing
This thing will be like the pstv neglected at first but once hacked it'll be a nice little device
The..... What??? There's a pstv???
I have no use for this thing - I live in a one bedroom apartment with my PS5 hooked up to one TV that's within like 10 steps of the entire place. But, I remember back in the day when my Playstation would be hooked up to the family TV, and I'd get kicked off as soon as my dad came home from work so he could chill and watch TV. I would've killed for something like this. I have to imagine smaller households that don't necessarily have the space/budget for multiple PS5s and TVs could really benefit from something like this. That's my roundabout way of saying: I'm guessing this is mostly designed for the Japanese market.
A tip, apparently if you use hotspot with a google phone, you can log in to wifi that way and pass it on to the portal.
This is correct. People have been using this on the PS5 forever.
What’s a google phone?
@@Dragonian100 the Pixel and the Pixel Fold.

I have one and I love it. How much is the dual sense edge ? $200 right . In this day and age that price isn’t bad. Backbone is way worse experience to me and yes I’m a dad with kids . Can play while my daughter at dance practice and while I don’t want to go to my dedicated room with my ps5. And play in the living room while they watch tv
any way to use it for sheet music? save sheet music on the PS5 and then open it with remote play?
Why the hell do you want to use sheet music on the ps5
@@piggygaming3455yes
Put a USB stick of music sheet images into back of PS5, open that on the Portal
If you able were to use ps cloud streaming it would make the portal more valuable
I love using my portal, but I do wish they'd add cloud streaming to it since I do have a premium subscription. I see no reason why this couldn't do it.
Imagine being able to play couch multiplayer games with this. One uses the ps5 itself and the other plays from the portal
Sony is insane releasing this and thinking it is okay.
Well it's sold out so....
As someone who just wants to be able to play in whatever room I am, this thing is perfect. It's a nice to have and not essential by any means, but I use it at least 4 hours a day.
"Sony is insane releasing this and thinking it is okay." Of course its okay. Sony is free to develop and release whatever product they want.
The only portal I'll be playing anytime soon has GlaDOS 😀
Man, I'd rather spend $50 more than what I'd spend on a PS5 to get a Steam Deck OLED.
Sad thing is, the Deck has Remote Play if you have another PC _and_ you can still download games to it that you can play offline.
I've been using my Steam Deck to remote play my PS5 games and it works very well for me.
Are you able to play the portal while the PlayStation 5 is in rest mode for some reason I cannot play it that way anymore my console and portal both are on at the same time now
It’s literally impossible to remote play to a ps5 that’s on rest mode lol
@@Arctis326 Oh that’s not what the advertisement said it said you can stream and play games while away from home while the PlayStation 5 is in rest mode to save energy or you have the option to have the console completely on it’s your choice
@@TheQueen0f2kGaming looks like you have poor reading comprehension 😂 nice try troll
@@TheQueen0f2kGaming That means you can wake your PS5 from Rest mode remotely. It will also not turn on your TV when doing so. When you disconnect, whether you are connected from home or wherever, your PS5 will go back into Rest mode. This also means that your PS5 can't be turned all the way off and be woken up remotely so keep that in mind.
Maybe it’s for those people that only have one large TV in the house and someone is watching it, well you can still play your PS5 while the other half watches her soaps
That's pretty much the only demographic I can see getting much use from it.

I believe a new model of the PS Portal later on in 2024… the latency is not that great… i would say thats the mean reason with other better features as well.
I was interested in getting one till I realized I can remote play on my iPad.

Can you connect multiple PS5’s? Does it let you choose from what’s shared via remote play on your PSN?
To the first question, yes. To the second question, I don't know what you mean.
@@JasonwithaJay just asking if it’s like any other remote play for PS? I have 3 PS5s so at start I can select which one I want to fire up on. That’s the question. Love to setup one for my brother that’s in the Army that has all my PS5’s for him to choose from one.
@YoRAHeem Oh ok. Tracking. You can connect as many PS5's as you want. In the slide menu there is an option to disconnect from one PS5 and reconnect to another one. I think the PSN account you sign into on the Portal has to be signed in on every PS5 you want to connect to.
@@JasonwithaJay perfect! Thanks for the response. I knew I should’ve bought it day one on PS site. Now we hunt. 😂
@@YoRAHeemGood luck. A lot of people have had success with hotstock with the autobuy feature. Some others by hitting up target as soon as they open
Hard wire PS5 with a LAN cable. If you’re sharing Wi-Fi with Portal and PS5, there will be latency more often than not, especially playing away from home. I don’t find a need for the Portal as I use a Backbone + IPhone 15 Pro Max, I can PS Remote plus dozens of other features.
Once streaming is available, itll be an ok device on the go. But even playstation streaming never works well either.
The were really lazy with this thing id have bheen better to make a newer version of the psvita with modern os and hardware with the option to add a sim card
Too much lag and latency. I have a wired ps5, and I am 10 feet away. I don’t even want to bother trying outside of house, on a plane, or in a hotel. Thing is trash. Going to sell mine on eBay.
I saw someone buy this at target when buy super Mario bro wonder
Stick Drift will be a genuine product killer
Bluetooth is a must for almost all products that use the Internet. Wi-Fi 6 should’ve been put on the portal. There is no excuse for them not adding a web browser on the device. Yes there is many other ways a person can do remote play. To me it just looks like an over price controller with a screen on it and yet still feels empty. I feel that this will die down and disappear into the sunset the same way they handle the Vita. Handheld devices including this one seems like Sony weakness. If I’m gonna play games in my house, I might as well use my PlayStation five. The Nintendo switch on the other hand, gives me that option to do either or in one unit.
just wait for Playstation Portal 2 release in two years. be patient, gamer padawan
Im glad i got mine for under msrp

Didn’t Nintendo try this already?
No browser. They really dont want you going to gamepass.
Should I buy it ? I can’t find it anywhere but I can buy it for resell for 300

I agree I would probably either just get a backbone for my phone or buy a steam deck. Either option is better depending on budget and use case
If you are will to spend $100 on the backbone you might as well get the portal. Way better experience with better controls and much larger screen than an phone really. Controls with the portal are also going to be way better than the deck too.
dont get a backbone u will regret it. i have a backbone for couple years and theres so many painpoints psportal solves

This seems like the amswer to the vita not being compatible with PS5.
If your WiFi signal is insane its a neat option to use your system but I'd rather have a stand alone new competitor for steam deck rog switch thats a true on the go experience. Without a rock solid WiFi signal and hubs boosters this things latency issues would annoy me
And the irony is they are the best company to do a new vita and crush steam deck switch etc the vita was way ahead in tech just bad optimisation because their code was all jacked
Nintendo had the game library and they never sinked the latency issues so it got shelved I swear their repeating the same cycle make a portable handheld I know it would become the best one out there come back Sony show why your tech is king again I believe in you
I can't wait for Asus to do a rog 2 it will clean it all up and future proof it but the buttons issue the exploding sd sheet lol might have perm tarnished it
I aww mix review on them but I've never had a bad Asus product or glitch out down to my mobo
This first version needs tweaks but their small
I feel like we all forget that the pulse edge wireless controller is $200 too and it’s just a controller. No one seems to complain so much about that. So I don’t find it bad at all. I’ll take the compromises that the Portal has as I am probably the market they made it for. I remote play with my iPhone and backbone already and have a good WiFi 6 mesh network with no issues. I just don’t want to isolate myself every time I want to play PS5. Remote Play on the PS4 Pro to my PS5 is terrible though. Good points in the video. No Bluetooth is wack. WiFi 5 is a choice for sure, it’s not using all that bandwidth but the extra network protocols of WiFi 6e would be good for stability. It’s a niche product to the masses for sure but it fits my use and fills that void for me.
Remote play sucks on my phone, i dont think the portal would do it any better

Probably going to not buy it on principle at this point. I have a steam deck and a switch so I don’t really care that much.

Why no Cloud gaming on the portal. It make no sense to me. This and the fact i can't connect my blutooth head phone and buds to this is insane. Big L Sony. Big missed opportunity.
I thought the same as you at first, but tbh the more I used it, I became more fond of it. I was able to use it in bed or anywhere in the house. Have yet to try it away from the home ecosystem, but to my surprise ran smooth with low latency. It became an acquired taste. I know it's weird, and yes the price is up there. I do have a backbone as well, but I have an iphone SE which is such a tiny screen to play stuff, so it was already a better screen upgrade. If only it can open a browser to actually log in to hotel wifi networks, that would definitely be a difference maker. Revisit this in a few weeks and I want to know if you might change your mind on it.
We should’ve gotten the vita V2
I really don't understand Sony, I assumed that it would bypass remote play altogether and connect directly to the PS5, similar to how the Wii U worked, the fact it's just a remote play accessory is next level stupid, it's a flawed system that is an object lesson in frustration if your playing action games or shooters and timing is important, I use Chiaki on my Steam Deck and admittedly for stuff like Slay the Spire, Inscyption, pretty much any turn based type of game it's ok but for everything else it's a toss of a coin on how it will perform, it will always lag or stutter at some point and if your connection isn't the best you can add graphical artefacts as well. There is a few tricks you can use to help but ultimately the system itself needs a major overhaul, personally adding a direct connection would be the best option.
Add to all of that the proprietary wifi for the new earbuds and headset and it's a level of stupid that could lose an arse kicking competition to someone with no legs. I use Sony WF C-500's for my Steam Deck that connect over Bluetooth, they wont work on the portal, I suppose Sony are sticking to their guns as the PS5 has no Bluetooth connectivity without a dongle but there's so many things wrong with the Portal I just can't get my head around why it's a thing.
Can't wait to install linux on it. :)
It's 2023 and Sony re-creates the Wii-U.... huh??
Like trying to play smash brothers online with old switch WiFi only
So… how is it any better than we thought? 😅 people are still better off using their phones for remote play lol

These reviewers are way and I mean way going out of bounds with what Sony created this for.
So if you like playing remotely and have a Ps5 it’s a no brainer
Sony needs to throw a real chip and some storage!! Stop faking the funk @Sony! I'd rather grab my Switch or even dust off an old 3DS if I am going portable. I hope Sony is just waiting for AMD to make a bit better portable APU for rev 2 of the portal...

Despite the critics and all the negativity, I find this devices a huge success. Everywhere you go PS Portal is sold out. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks because this is sold out. PS Portal is design for those players who are working in the office or travel and cant continue the enjoyment of their PS5 at home. PS Portal is not for gamers who always have access to their PS5. There are so many games for PS5 that have over 100 hours of game time and the PS Portal allows those players who cant always access their PS5 from home because they have to share the TV with the family, or constantly traveling. Internet infrastructure is still on the rise and we will see some positive internet changes to come in the next few years.

In 2023 ,some people would buy anything Playstation ,even if its kinda bad sometimes(like this one)
For the price they are asking, remote play is not enough. They should have simple titles or parts of a game that can be downloaded. Simple titles for the device that can be played off the remote play. Like, you download two small games before heading out and it syncs with the system. This way, if remote play is not an option when you take it out, at least you have two local games for some entertainment.
Problem is it's really hard to buy it.
Xbox Remote Play works over 5G. Playstation Remote Play barely works with even the best wifi.
My experience with my wifi has been really good. I do have a Wifi 6 router and my devices are all set up to make my traffic as efficient as possible however. Getting the Portal gave me the motivation to get my network in order. I'm happy I took the time to do it too.
Answer to that question: no. Don't buy it
It’s ok don’t scratch your head it’s too much for you to fathom a device to let you play when your tv is engaged. It’s not that hard to wrap your head around, you have many similar devices out there now too like the back bone. This is just a ps version with a dual sense. I got one and couldn’t be happier, clearly it’s too much for your to handle. I suggest you don’t play it, don’t want you scratching your head to the bone 🦴
