I've been watching your channel since you first started, your content is gold. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
Very sad that this stuff wasn't preserved years ago. BUT it's great that you're there (and here) to share it with us. Thank you!!
Appreciate you watching my friend.
Thank you for showing pictures of the equipment used it definitely highlights what we are looking at. Also the view the soldiers had is so helpful. WOW.
Thanks Skimmer
Thank you again for taking us along, have a great rest of your week!
Thank you too Doug and stay safe.
Well I've been watching WW2HH channel for years now and you NEVER cease to surprise me and remind me that history is always around. Last video I stated must be hard to find artifacts in this time (probably cleaned out) and low and behold you show us a search light and generator left at the Atlantic wall position. I keep lurking until the end... Be Well, Be Safe and of course Be Careful... to all the family....
Well Ted , sometimes there are pretty interesting stuff out there. 1 out of 100 perhaps :) Thanks and greetings from us.
As a person who loves machinery and equipment and has worked around it for most of their life, I have really enjoyed this video. I believe this is the second searchlight you have videoed. Although it is sad to see it in such disrepair,I am grateful to have been able to see it at all. I would enjoy an opportunity to examine that old engine up close. Thanks
Yes Alfred , so great to see machinery like that and when you know the history at the place it makes it even better. SO glad we could share this with you and thanks for your kind support. Have a still great summer.
Another example of why your work is so important.History is vanishing quickly and it’s great that you are able to catch it before it’s gone for good.Love your introductions and always looking forward to the next adventure.
Wow, thank you!
Wow, you're the first one I know that ever found a 75 year old Searchlight in the wild! It was really interesting seeing that gearbox and the track it slides on. Details I never got to see before.
I have never seen anyone do that before so you could be right. Thanks Bob
I enjoyed watching. Thanks for your hard work documenting WWII history for us.
Thanks John and greetings from us.
Hey I found this kinda late but I love what you do man
Appreciated miles and greetings from us.
The shot of the channel made me think of the movie The Longest Day, the music as the defending Germans saw the invasion fleet of thousands of ships.
yes , looks like that indeed. Thanks
I cannot tell you what a joy it is to wake up to a new video I think you are +9 or 10 hours ahead of me. I’m in The desert of Scottsdale Arizona, USA and to quote you a massive thank you for what you and your family do.
That is awesome and thanks Marc
I agree it should have been saved to a museum. Nice find Eagle Eye.
Thanks Joe and greetings from us.
Amazing searchlight find. We could enjoy seeing all the components! Tragic but fascinating.
yes that was such a unexpected find and loved sharing it with you. Thanks Beverley.
It's not in very good condition, but you found what's left and that's worth the trip ! Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do and more to come soon
You may not realise it, but you are doing something very important. You are recording history that would otherwise die without a trace. A big round of applause for all your hard work is called for, I think!
i agree and i call it our walking museum that everyone can see all over the world. Thanks
It is bad to see the searchlight rusting away if I was with you and Eagle Eyes I can get a truck and bring it to your house and clean it up. And when it's all cleaned up I'm going to put it back in the truck and drive to the museum to be put on display.
I agree with you, that is sad, by the looks of the equipment it was probably destroyed by the allies after war. Thanks for another amazing video, keep up the good work and stay safe.
Great location and glad to have shared it with you Allen. Greetings from us.
You are right, these should have been preserved. Very sad that they were allowed to deteriorate. But I'm very grateful you were able to show them to us! Hope you and the family are well!😊💖
I agree with you Cynthia and glad we could share the images with you :) Have a still great summertime and greetings from us.
We all share your excitement! Thanks to you and your son for another’s great adventure!
Our pleasure!
Awesome once again WW2HH and Eagle Eyes, what a find, thanks for taking us along. Those parts will be great on your dioramas.
It will and they will be shared you know :) Thanks Jez and more to come soon.
Wow, a whole engine! How unique and special!
yes such a great place and thanks my friend.
Thanks so much guys.👍👍👍💜💜💜
Amazed by your great support Wendy and thank you for that :)
I MIGHT OF SAID IT BEFORE BUT YOU CANT FAULT OR CRITICIZE GERMAN ENGINEERING. GREAT VIDEO AS USUAL THANKS
Appreciate you watching.
It's amazing that so many devices we use in everyday civillian life have their roots in military equipment. "Swords into ploughshares" I guess, but it's a shame we had to have the swords in the first place.
Hi from Australia I've been interested in war history for many years now and I have been watching your video's for a while now and every time i watch another video it get more me even more interested.
Great to read and thanks for watching
@@WW2HistoryHunter I am sorry I can't become a patron as my wife has a medical condition and on a pension but you do inspire me with your videos especially with yours children involved, it's great to see.
Seeing these pieces of history just rusting away is sad and they should have been in a museum. But we must also remember that the people in the area that were under German rule wanted to forget about the war and all the reminders of it. Very few soldiers wanted to talk about what they did or saw during the war. Those that did would brake down and cry as the memories came back. So thankful you and Eagle Eyes were able to find these lost pieces of history and show them to us.
yes tough times it was then. Thanks Anthony :)
Wow, what a shame that piece is rusting away. You and your son are blessed to have found it. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you kindly
Imagine how loud that old generator was!! Great finds! Thanks for sharing this with the rest of us.
Glad you enjoyed it and appreciate it my friend.
Thanks guys you are awesome!
Our pleasure!
Incredible what you found! There is history everywhere there! It gets more meaningful when you describe and tell about the things that you find! Thanks again for your time and Discovery!
Glad you enjoyed it Jeffery and greetings from us.
Absolutely fascinating ... just think was it so badly destroyed at the wars end it wasn't worth saving ? That scale with all the numbers on .. what a souvenir! Thankyou again for sharing !!
Great experience being there and thanks Stephen.
Yes so sad, I'd imagine that it could have probably been saved if it had been preserved or covered in the 70s or 80s. You could just imagine that restored and encased in a perspex box in its original position, how amazing would that have been. I am really surprised that someone didn't even spray it once a year with some sort of rust inhibitor to atleast slow down the process of its deterioration.
So glad you came across this for many people to see before it's gone forever, excellent bit of ww2 archeology from you once again 🙂
I agree Adrian , to bad it wasnt picked up before. Thanks
I couldn't tell what make the engine was, or if it were petrol or diesel but I could see that it had 8 cylinders.... I imagine it sounded quite sweet when running. Excellent video, as always!
Thank you!
That was a fantastic find, good one great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
what a great find even though it has decayed so much... keep up the great work and thanks for acknowledging the harshness of the time..
Thanks, will do and greetings from us.
I'm amazed to have seen this treasure, thank you for sharing. It's nice that you are making dioramas with bits of your finds, that's a good idea as there are many people out there who enjoy collecting bits of history. Keep up the great work I really enjoy your videos.
Thank you very much!
Another great video. As a amateur Historian I enjoy your Videos and wish more people watched them as they do document the end of the Reach.
One Question, have you ever done any exploring in the Ardennes? That would be impressive. (I spent Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and the day after Christmas in a Tent just outside of Bastogne in 1985. Spookiest camping trip I have ever done.
We do work all over Europe. Thanks for watching.
Just wanted to say thank you for all the hard work you and your family do to provide us with a but of insight of how the past looked, keep up the good work!!!
I appreciate that and thanks my friend.
Thank you for the adventure and seeing some amazing stuff ! Take care , stay safe and healthy wherever you maybe going next ! Doing well here in Kansas !
Appreciated Steve and our greetings goes to you in Kansas.
The Company logo on the part at 14:21 is for Siemens. Nice finds
Yes it is and they have been around for quite some time :) Thanks.
Beautiful location.
Really sad that search light and generator were just left there to rust away.
You think they would have at least salvaged the generator to re-use.
Totally agree with you, the search light should have been saved and put in a museum, a long, long time ago.
Is the location so isolated and difficult to get to?
That's the only reason I can think of, as to why they were left to rust away...
Anywho,
Keep up the excellent work, guys 🙏😁
The location is not that hard to get to but in a way out there enough for ost people to ignore it. Should have saved that thing many years ago if you ask me. Thanks Casey :)
Most german engines during ww2 were petrol engines, they did experiment with diesel but due to low revs of diesel engines back then they were only used in larger appliances like ships
Thanks for feedback and for watching.
@@WW2HistoryHunter Great finds and interesting series!
Amazing, another searchlight. More complete than the other, but sadder since it looks as if it could have been saved. Curious that it was just left.😢
Yes what a great place to explore. Thanks my friend.
Glad to see your still discovering and showing the Cool Stuff.
Great to be out there and love to share with you. Thanks Bob
You're outstanding and I thank you for the video. I love history. It's a shame that most of it goes overlooked or worse destroyed. Appreciate you! Stay safe!
Glad you enjoyed it and greetings from us.
At 12:50 that looks like the internals of an electrical switch operated by the lever on the outside that you could see at 12:30 just before you flipped it over. There were probably some contacts mounted on that bakelite board that are now missing.
Intriguing find - at least you got the opportunity to document it.
yes i think it was a master switch of some sort. Thanks for comment and for watching.
Love your videos. Always finding cool WW2 items and places
Great location and great finds. Thanks
Sometimes it is important to show history in the context of place and time. Modern War in Europe rarely leaves remains in sutu (left and forgotten in place) I find this to be more interesting than a shiny museum example for it shows not just history but the passing of time. Thank you and Eagle eye for allowing us to join in your adventures. Stay safe my friend.
Appreciate you commenting and watching.
I have to agree with you on not just the Search Light but a lot of different things that could have been saved! Just think about the man power to build it and deploy it and to keep it maintained!
Awesome place it is and thanks Thomas.
So very sad to see that 150cm searchlight and its generator just rusting away like that. I agree they could have been saved so many years ago. I guess, maybe they were battle damaged and just thought of as scrap, like so many things after the war, stripped of anything useful and just left to nature. Those big aluminium rounded boxes, with all the gears, are the upright arms that supported the light. Truly such a shame, much too late for restoration now. But, thank you both, HH and Eagle Eye, for finding them, and sharing this with us. Everything you do, and the challenges you face to bring us these videos, is very much appreciated. Cheers, and stay safe!
These things are really rare out there and so glad we could share them with you.
We found in Poland mortar position with 20 mortar granades and in pretty good position mortar!
Thanks for watching.
Sweet little find of history there. it really should have been in a museum. I really enjoyed the video!
Glad you enjoyed it ad thanks.
Hi, WW2 History Hunter and Eagle Eyes, it looks like that searchlight had received a direct hit or very nearly so from an Allied bomb and was not deemed to be worthy of picking up, even for scrap. Besides, now it helps to show just how desparate conditions had gotten toward the end of the War. Thanks for sharing, God Bless and stay safe.
Thanks for comment and for watching Doug
Hey there that was really cool. I like the 6 cylinder motor for powering that huge light. I bet I could get it running but it would cost a Fortune. Everything would have to be custom made unless the motor was used in other things then there might be parts laying around. Well another great video. Sorry I haven't been around to leave comment. I wasn't telling anyone but I have been having issues with my kidneys. The last 3 weeks the doctors have been looking for cancer in my kidneys. I just got the all clear on the cancer but something's up. I can't really walk because of the pain. I still push myself. I have list 35 lbs in the last month. So that's good. I hope you and your kids are doing well. Pretty soon I will have a museum in my loading room. You have sent me the most wonderful dioramas. They look good hanging up on the wall. Well Happy History Hunting.
Careful he may accept that challenge to get that going. Sending you all the positive vibes I can muster!
MY friend , it makes me sad to know that you have these problems. Please let us know if there is something we can do for you. Health is something that always kicks us up and down again but i have learned one special thing from you and that is to SMILE back at life and create great stamina and power from that. We wish you all the very best and stay in there my friend.
Great to see you upload another video stay safe good friend
@@WW2HistoryHunter thank you. I'm going to beat this whatever it is. I'm just happy that it's not cancer. I will be up at it soon. Happy History Hunting.
Good to hear from you!! I will pray for you for quick healing!! Going to jump over to your channel and catch up on some video's!! Take care, have a good one!!
the piece at 13:00 looks like a fuel tank? amazing video thanks my friend!!!
Thant could be it yes. Thanks my friend for comment and for watching.
I can't help but wonder why a spotlight and generator would be left behind unless perhaps it was damaged, too big to move or they were in a hurry. They would have been nice pieces for a museum. The manufacturer date of 1940 is incredible. 82 years old!
yes such a great item to find out there and very glad we did and shared it with you my friend :)
What a great location. That engine could be restored and made to run again. Something to think about.
Would have been great to see happen. Thanks Ronald
Love your videos and how you involve your children in the hunt for ww2 artifacts and tell the story of the war
Thanks for comment and for watching my friend.
Wow! This is history . It needs to be saved. German WW2 history isn’t just about Nazis doing bad things. It’s about German people doing what they thought was their duty. We need to record everything we can including rusty search lights. It’s all a small part of a big story ! When it’s gone , it’s gone !
So true Chris and appreciate your comment and for watching.
With all the walking you do you should be in pretty good shape. Seeing the searchlight just rotting away is sad. Am sure after the war people didn’t realize how much history was just left to rot. It’s like toys you had as a kid and threw them away and now they are worth a lot of money. Looking at the parts of the searchlight a lot of engineering went into building them. It’s a shame what salt water will do to metal. Even though it was destroyed you actually got to find and see one. Same with the engine. Your touching history. Great finds Eagle Eyes.
yes loved to see that there and so glad it is still there. Thanks Anthony.
I'm dubious about how much interest a searchlight would have been if placed in a WW2 museum. It's not a Me-109 or a Panzer. It may have started on the road to its present state when a passing aircraft dropped a bomb on it. Nevertheless, it's interesting to look at the remnants today. I seem to recall a searchlight being found once before.
Very rare to find things like that out there anymore. Thanks for watching.
My guess would be that demolition charges were used to destroy it when it was abandoned!
Must be a very remote position, I see a lot of value there as scrap that would have been pilfered decades ago if access was easy!
That could be it actually. Never though about that. Thanks Paul.
Very glad to see your video, it always makes the day better. Very cool position, and very sad the condition of the search light. Great job.
Thank you very much Lee and have a still great summer.
@@WW2HistoryHunter same to yours!
How many Allied Bombers probably met their doom when spotted by this light in its heyday...
So true and i would have loved to know the full story of that .)
LOL, I could sit there for a whole day pulling neat stuff off of that.My background is in mayan archaeology, but I'd have a big old fieldday in Europe with that lying around.
Thanks for watching.
Strange all the scrap wasn't collected for the rebuild after the war. Cool site. Thanks for the trip. 👍
i agree and how it survived for so long. Thanks James
Awesome history thank you 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Eagle Eyes stay true to his name ! well done !
Indeed and thanks Alain
And you are right, that makes me sad also.Just tossed away.
yes not good at all but at least i could share it with you all :)
A fantastic but sad find. I would say the locals stripped prats they could use or needed and left the rest. The aluminum section is missing gears and I bet the number is the cast mold number. The generator is the same thing locals took what they could use or of value and left the rest. the engine reminds me of a diesel Maybach, but i don't remember them on the generators. All in all this was a great find and I do concur that it is a shame that it didn't go to even a local museum. Well found Eagle Eyes. Everybody stay safe out there.
Well that is how history sometimes rules it seems William. We will show more later and thanks my friend for your great support and more to come later :)
Another great upload!
Thanks again!
I wonder if the searchlight had had been effectively destroyed by combat action, overrun, and forgotten, then much later stripped for what was easily salvagable and forgotten again. Was there any signs of fire damage? I can't tell for sure. Also, it looks like the generator itself was stripped from the trailer and the straight-8 gas engine was left behind.Maybe the engine was seized? Anyone's guess - it's certain that it's seized now!
i agree , anyones guess and thanks for comment and for watching.
A rusting relic Frozen in Time history telling a story to this very day thanks for bringing it to us
Glad you enjoyed it and glad we could share this with you. Thanks
Beautiful view. To me it's possible that the search light might have been blown up by either an artillery shell or a grenade
It could have indeed. Thanks Jeremy
Another great find my friend great work you and your son are doing great work
Thanks for the visit
Big Thumbs Up already... Now I will watch your video...
Hope you enjoy and thanks.
That search light was amazing!!!!
It is kind of special laying out there yes. Thanks for comment and for watching.
Wonder if that searchlight was damaged by a bomb? That might explain why it wasn't salvaged.
That could be the case. Thanks.
Another great video!! More awesome Eagle eyes find's, great job!! I agree with you on the filling of the positions so people don't fall in, it's a good thought but they should just build a fence and/or warning sign's, also on why the searchlight and generator were not preserved and in a museum, who know's. Safe travel's, take care see you guy's in the next video!!
i agree , the units should have been taken care of before. Thanks Joshua and more to come soon.
It is always nice to see the equipment that was used by the Germans. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do Ron and greetings from ud.
So well built, that probably even 30 yrs ago that search light would have still been in pretty good shape! Too bad not more of the lens was not there too. Nice find!
i agree but we did find some smaller pieces of it. Thanks Miles and stay safe.
Really enjoy your videos.
Glad you like them and thanks.
Would have been nice to save it but seeing it in its original placement is really interesting and haunting
i agree and thanks for watching.
You should get a hold of a museum that has the German airplanes and let them know about that engine. There might be some parts they could still use in something.
Thanks for watching.
Nice find my friend thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I share your pain ... and joy of seeing it still there !
So glad you liked it and thanks.
Wow what amazing find thanks for sharing what a piece of history I think it's awesome to see 👊👌
Glad you enjoyed it Joe and thanks
It is so sad to see so much history rusting away....but Thank you for what you do bringing it to us . Oh.....and no spiders...😎
Glad you enjoyed it
Great day, amazing finds. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Could the generator and searchlight have been hit in a strafing run? It looks like both of them have been on fire. Maybe that is why they were left behind.
i have been wondering that myself and it could yes. Thanks
@@WW2HistoryHunter, thanks for answering me! I love binge watching your stuff. Stay safe!
Looks to be a straight 8 cylinder gasoline engine, probably made by BMW. The smaller ones for the 60cm searchlight were 6 cylinder
It could be yes. Thanks my friend
The generator engine may be a Mannesmann, but their logo is an M over a W. I know they made U-Boat engines and larger generators then.
ok and thanks for sharing with us.
what an excellent find...
Great location and great find. Thanks
Definitely a search light
yes it is.
Great work there Mr H.H. Although you are right being disappointed that nothing had been done to preserve these relics, they still have a poignant story to tell. Still standing at the position they were used at after all these years. They also appear to have naturally corroded away and fallen apart instead of being vandalised or smashed up. It is possible see these things in museums...... but to see relics in their intended environment like this is rare and special. I don’t think many people have found this place. Good detective work. 👍
Great location it is my friend and very glad to have shared it with you. Thanks and have a still great summertime.
Thanks a lot you do great videos keep them up have a nice day
Thanks, you too!
What you find and explain it brilliant
Thanks my friend.
Hey nice vid guys...yes as you said very sad it's been left to just wash away with time...
It sure is
Leave it to Eagle Eyes. The boy has a sense for that. They learn so well when they are younger. Amazing, No glass around? Did they dismantle it for the lenses?
i agree , little glass there but we did find some at least. Great location and just loved sharing it with you.
This was truly a wonderful site.
It totally is Mary and so glad you enjoyed it. Greetings from us and keep smiling :)
The searchlight might be destroyed so it was not taken from there. I mean probably they just took good stuff and left what was not needed. This was just junk for many years after the war, when it was considered to have historical value it was just forgotten.
Thanks for watching.
