- Got a few days in the middle of TB testing the cattle. We have been working in the new dairy unit dairy unit putting together the cubicles. These are four from Condon engineering which is an Irish firm who work alongside mayo mattresses which is where we’ve got our mattresses from. Yes I know we probably should have put the mattresses in first, but we haven’t as the cubicles are here and the mattresses are not and we had the short window of time when there are no workmen with us in the shed so we could get on with something that we could do ourselves. Rick is open evening in Carlisle where the kids take over CZcams and give you a look around. I went here with Alan Richard and Isla good friends of ours and the pies were amazing. In fact I might go tonight again just for another pie, Rickaby sell a lot of class stuff, so no surprise everything was very lime, green impressive turnout it was really busy so loads of people we knew had a good crack back to work though.
in 2009 i had no experience of farming or the realities that came with it. That soon changed when I met my other half Roy, I had a job as a carer and in every spare moment threw myself into farming. I had only ever driven a Nissan Micra and had experience with horses, I learnt the hard way as nobody had the time to show me and soon after arriving I found myself mothering on calves to three quarter bred limmy cows. We spent every available moment on the farm between our day jobs. Fast forward to 2016 two children later we moved into our very own farm overlooking the northern Pennines, Laitha.
we are in a transitional period at present and will finally be milking cows and making the final switch later this year, after years of planning and implementing infrastructure we will be milking 120 Jersey cows on two Lely robots. This will be a huge change and a steep learning curve
I will be taking you all along for the ride so hit that subscribe button and see you every other day for farming vlogs.
I am overjoyed to be a farmer. I feel so fortunate every day to wake up and do what I love and even better share it with the world and hope it inspires more young people from Preston to spread their wings and think outside the box the world doesn’t need more childcare workers or hairdressers it needs more farmers.

Great video ,I think Roy secretly likes being in the video, we are seeing more of him ,you better look out he will be taking over from you charlotte 😂😂❤
The shed is looking space aged love it ,great for future development of the farm
I love Inky's little background cameo appearances. It's like spotting Alfred Hitchcock in 1 of his films .
OMG stay off the silage pit with the bobcat🤣🤣🤣
Hi Charlotte, the new intro is a good change, you can't always stay the same. I found a job for your children., they could clean your cars for some pocket money and it could be a good bonding exercise for them. 😂😂 You don't have explain to anybody how you are paying for the big shed and you did say there is money from the UK farmers grants. You would think the amount of cubicles sold in the UK, the process to put them together would be as easy as Meccano. Aviation Update, yes! Is Roy happier, he seemed to put himself in front on the video many times. Hmm. The big shed is looking like a well planned and great area for your dairy cowes. Thanks. Chris from Victoria, Australia 🇦🇺.
Put bracket on first. Shed is looking amazing though
Looking fantastic....thats the shed.....and you of course. Thought the chinooks were banned for suddenly falling out of the sky......obviously still in service??!!
Music change was appreciated, thank you 👏
Glad you liked it! I paid six quid for that 😂😂😂😂😂
Love the new intro Charlotte. The shed is looking amazing 👍. Thanks for entertaining my mother, she still thinks you’re hilarious 😂. First thing she does is ask if Charlotte is on yet. Who knew an 87 year old who knows nothing about farming would love your videos so much.
Regarding the bolt assembly/tightening conundrum, ask the supplier to arrange a site visit by the manufacturer’s designer so you can ask him how he planned for you to assemble it. Without that he will never learn.
Inky!!!!!
sorry im a bit late ❤
You two are getting on well with the shed. It’s amazing how it changes every time you upload a video. I’m sure you and Roy are looking forward to the day when it’s just farming again. So looking forward to seeing the cattle in the shed. I like the new start but I also liked the previous one. You can always swap them around the odd time and see if anyone notices 😂😂. Great video as always Charlotte
The new start is better now the colour has changed couldn’t see if I had already watched the vid. The red line blended in too much when it was pink !! The numbers on the bolts is tensile strength If you see numbers on a bolt generally means its metric not imperial You are learning some male frustrations with design ie assembly of cubicles Great vids as usual
Awesome 👍🏻
Love the beginning great to see the you lad
I don't have to take a nap after this video 😊 more low keyed. Love the Helicopter 🚁 fly over
You'll need to tell the RAF boys to peep their horns
Although we are from "The Sarf" went to a wedding at Basenthwaite a few years ago. Had a day to spare and went to Cumberland Show - It was how shows should be. BRILLIANT 😸
Great new intro followed by another great video!
Use a spanner and adjustable or rachet spanners 🔧
Bobcat skid steer loaders are a daindrus machine. So be extra careful and think what you are doing at all times. Don't take them for granted iv sin a man killed on one of those.
What a banger this song is 🙏🏼
Great video as always Charlotte
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just had to pause to say love the Intro to tune !
That is all 😂
You have probably already figured it out but, if you had put the brackets on the post first and then added the hoops to the bracket you would have been golden.
Like the new intro. 😊
Hi Charlotte Nice one Thanks again
Loving the new intro. Very snazzy!
The shed looks awesome cant wait to see it with the mattress in fair play to ye ya have to spend money to make money and I hope that ye make lots after all the hard work that you have put into the shed
Have you got a spare cubicle in the shed? I think I want to moooove in (see what I did there) seriously it’s really looking good 👍🏻
Great intro Charlotte very professional , I would say put the bracket on first then all should be good. Thanks for another great video .
Awesome video as always Charlotte and Roy !
Glad you enjoyed it
Hey, I love the new intro, Charlotte, but the original can't be beaten 💯👌👍 great video as usual, and it's nice to see Roy getting on video ❤
Bracket on post first! Love the choice of Feeder for the music
Great video as usual. I need you to come and rowl my clamp with a skid stear here in west Wales 😂. I hope you're okay and you're nerves are coping with the stresses of tb testing. I wish you the best of luck that you pass the test tomorrow xx
Love the intro. Great video, good to see some future youtubers or maybe future farmers.
great video misses shed is mint surprised roy dont have a joe seals hat
Hi Charlotte your looking so pretty in the video and that's great work with your new shad Charlotte that was a lovely video Charlotte ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Lovin the music by Feeder
Me too always been a fave song
Try fitting brackets first to uprights then add dividers.
two open ended spanners ps love you
Cool vid lass better weather on the way id say o you probly have to put the bracket on the up rite pole first and do it up then put the side bars in ok great job see ya on the next vid lass tar
Good call! We ended up doing thwt
@@charlotteashleyfarm yep thought you mite lass no probs be safe thanks
Love the new intro Charlotte 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thank you 🤗
Buzz the horizontal bolt out first then tighten the other bolt
We live in countryside and use an electric fence to keep dogs at home works well after some time
Maybe put both brackets 9those either side of post that share the same fixing bolts), on first??
don't forget to mark the wheel of the bobcat where you put the anti-puncture stuff. the mechanic will be happy with this when the tire needs to be changed. This can be done, for example, by placing a cable tie around the valve
Good point I didn’t. Think of this they would get covered
Sheds looking good👌, I would of thought if you bolt the brackets on first then it would be easier, but what would I know I’m just a farmer😂
We tried both ways they are just very close together all but one can be done with the buzz the one is a proper spanner jobby
Loved your comment regarding rolling the field round and round, most people haven't caught on to that method. There's no dead time turning at the ends of the field.
I like the way you think 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Not everyone appreciates the way I think!!!
Quick : If only you can have 8 more kids , channel 5 will probably give you a TV series.
Emmmmmm I don’t think so I’m sensible I’d be breeding poverty kids cost a fortune we will stick to what we can afford 😂😂
Hey Charlotte
Alright paddy how’s it going
@@charlotteashleyfarm not to bad. How are you Charlotte
Poor Inky won't have concrete to leave paw prints in. 😊
Looking amazing 👏 🤩
Different to Crawford Nivens " Cow Palace from Crawfords Farm.😊
Yes ours is a cubicle shed far far cheaper to keep cattle this way and lessens the risk of mastitis on milking animals.
Nice hat Charlotte im Joe's postie I pick up all his merch 👍
DO YOUUUUUUU NO WAY
Did you see Ali from Gordon's love watching you with your sheep it's like doctor do little talking to his animals, 😂😂😂 ,roy.
Not seen him since the combine run on the top of Shap Fell 😂😂x
I hope you got your little problem sorted with the nuts/bolts. Not sure about the new intro, I really liked your one, though he did a good job. I find it amaazing that people no matter how charming they are, have the nerve to ask you how you can afford the things you are doing, very rude if you ask me. always fun to watch, see you next time. Witchy. X
That’s why engineers read instruction first it saves half a workforce standing round doing nothing and taking the Michael! But we all do it once. There is an exception have you ever managed to follow a picture diagram with foreign instructions? No , nor have I.
8.8 is high tensile but 10.4 is much stronger and 4.2 is pretty rubbish and used for packaging. New opening very good.
Tell the Irish Man, under the mattress like where he keeps his money😊...😂
I would think bracket goes on post first. Tighten that up. Then put ya red bits in and bolts through
That’s how we were doing it we only tried two the other way, bloody bolt holes are just very close together
I just don't know what you're going to come out with next Charlotte 😅😅😅
Try not to offend x
Think they need to cut the pitch a bit more often at Carlisle if they need a chopper 🤔😂
They say it’s a hell of a third cut 🙈😂x
Hi Charlotte I got nothing on finance, and my newest tractor is 34 years old and the oldest one is 39 years old.
I got no grants of any kind either 🤔.
A family member has just spent £22000, on a newer car so it keeps the image😮
Ha ha ha ha ha
Ha what would you do if you had put them on upside down😮
That would be hilarious they are pretty self explanatory when the metal part is at the top 😂
i know some people say it's rude to talk about money but i would love to hear how much your dairy setup ends up costing.......you know the final figure at the bottom of the bill + the VAT....... just the VAT alone would bankrupt me i think. when milk buyers say that they pay the cost of production for milk do you think they take into account the cost of getting set up and running in the first place........i doubt it
What it’s cost us isn’t a true figure now the shed went up in 2020 before the war in Ukraine and before steel went crazy prices, the concrete yard is 3 miles away so will be cheaper than anywhere else without a doubt, we have done a lot of the work ourselves with obvious help from the actual builders people normally just employ a company like wearings to just come in and do it all, we have had grants on cubicles and robotics so that brings it down, the machines themselves have gone up so much now we couldn’t afford to start again. And in terms of that we would need at least 25 years to recoup any costs with a good milk price luckily jersey is better than the usual, and the fortunate bit is we are only 35 so we have that time ( fingers crossed)
what happened to new kid you had starting have you scared him off already 🤣🤣
Ahhh head bump at home he fell off his bike bless him he’s off school spent a short time in a coma
Hope he makes full recovery ❤
open ended spanners do exist just for that job !!!
They do indeed
Sorry should have watched a bit more. My age I have to comment as I watch or forget. Saw you had an open ended in your hand 😂
4th
£140 a tonne for straw
Did you try fitting the brackets first?
Yes still a ball ache, all but one can be buzzed the one is a proper spanner jobby
@@charlotteashleyfarm Looks like an old school job no buzz guns lol.
If you could charge the RAF for flying over the farms air space, you could retire!
I installed these cubicles 2 winters ago. I foresaw that issue and only put one bolt in the lower bracket and added the other after it was all on. On another note how are you putting the mattress on while the cubicles are in place?
Easily :) we have measured the space under and it’s enough for the drill and the holes :)
@@charlotteashleyfarm they look awesome in red so does the whole shed. Unfortunately we put blue ones in so can’t go back now. I have shed envy now.
Cows will bend them.
use a spanner?
Yep but on 150 it’s a shitty design feature when they are meant to be put together with a buzz gun!! You couldn’t even get a little ratchet spanner on
Always thought flat pack furniture was a major contribution to divorce.... Now Im thinking cubicle building is up there to... 🤔 I bet Roy never swore once... 😉
You should have e heard him when he kept banging his head 😂😂😂
@@charlotteashleyfarm and you were obviously sympathetic and didn't laugh...
The majority of people only read the instruction manual if absolutely necessary!
What i don't understand is why so many dairy farmers are packing up, yet you're just starting out in the dairy industry.
I think the dairy industry is having to meet so many obligations and the investment required is putting people off continuing with their operations.
1st🎉
Dawn is the WONNERRRRRRRRRRRRR
Yaaaasssss well done shed looking fab xx
Common sense is a wonderful thing 😅
Don’t be silly I have none of that
How much does Joseph pay you to advertise his products?
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA you don’t know Joe well enough if you think he would pay someone!!! It nearly killed him to give me a free bobble hat 😂😂😂
Ask Tom pem charlotte
He didn’t install his own they did it for him
He’s not a cheapskate like us
First
First😂
