Hello Adrian, little trick for the skulling gate above the grease nipple drill a hole straight true the pipe and u can put a screwdriver or a pin in it and itl hold the gate open, it works a treat

They say farming is cruel to the animals, but you can see the love of the animals in the way they behave, and you sir treat your animals very well,. Is a real c redit to you and the vast majority of farmers that take excellent car of their stock.
I went to college with a man from Monaghan over 40 years ago and ‘eegit’ (eejit) was a favourite word of his. I haven’t heard that pronunciation since! It must be a Cavan/Monaghan thing.

Hi Adrian. I'm not a farmer, I'm not Irish but an English man who has loved farm life and horses since I was a small boy.
I'm not one for leaving comments on a regular basis, although I have left you a couple this year.
I don't use social media, but occasionally, I observe something which, for the life of me, I can not explain.
To give you a bit of history. From the age of 10, I worked on a dairy farm/livery stables at weekends and holidays in West Sussex until the age of 17. My mother worked in the livery stable as a trainer. It was she who got me the job.
Anyway, I saw many things on the farm and took particular interest in blacksmithing as the stables had their own smithy who looked after around 100 horses. I even had the opportunity to work in the abattoir a few miles away, which I was not keen on.
Like I said, I've seen a lot of things both on the farm, in the livery stables, and at the abattoir. Then, one day, I noticed hanging from the beams in your cattle sheds are what look like dead branches.
I noticed them beforehand when I first subscribed to your channel but was too embarrassed to ask about them. I thought at first they were to help keep flies away, but then they were so high up.
So Adrian, please put me out of my miserly. What are those branches, and why do you have them hanging? Perhaps you could explain in one of your next videos as I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering.

Use cable ties or bit of wire pointing upwards on top of your rails will help keep the crows off they use a plastic spike thing you can glue on to keep birds off also
Get a narrow steel rod bar with 2 short bits sticking down at each side of the bar to keep crush gate open. Works well.

Glad the calf was ok, I know how much you worry about your stock so it must have been a relief. Don't talk to me about Crows, one of the buildings I looked after which had a massive flat roof, just because they could they used to remove the wire mesh balls that we used to put in the top of the down pipes to stop any debris getting into them. Wouldn't mind but they would wait for the contractors to finish fitting them, then as soon as they went they used to swoop down remove them and just fly off, until they were replaced again. We could fix anything permanent as it was a listed building. 🤬👍

I really enjoy your videos you show how a farm should be run. As for the crows they are vermin with no natural predator and carry disease from outside onto farms so unfortunately they have to be controlled to try and keep farms disease free

I can tell you that the trailer breakaway on the Nugent works very well. Don't ask me how i know.
Great video Adrian👍You know something that sheargrab is a grand yolk for feeding bales, i reckon its just as good as a bale shear nice neat blocks of silage for the cattle its not far out in the feed passage, i think there is just as much work on messing around at the end with taking net from plastic and bits of silage from net, keep up the good work cant wait for the next one👍
I always have meloxicam on hand use it mainly on swollen feet works well
You needa get yourself one of them black snow shovels there’s a great job about a yard for lifting dung and silage and stuff

I enjoy watching your videos. I learn a lot of great tips by watching your videos. I myself have 1 cow with a calf and a bull. I have a small problem though. Every winter when the snow comes, the water freezes, so we have to run with buckets of water several times a day for our 3 animals. So how do you water your cows in the winter? Do you have heating cables in the pipes?

With that crush gate tie it open and drill a hole big enough to 6mm or 8mm bolt. Then when you need to hold it open just stick a pin in . great job when your on your own

A superior tractor in every way, still more than half the bales left yet. Plenty of silage hopefully, that’s if we get some sort of a spring 🤞

Actually, a chain on a trailer (the 750kg and up ones at least) would be more dangerous. If the hitch would come loose and the trailer is heavy enough, it will trow your car around. On low speeds not so much a problem, but imagine it doing so at 80 kph. Thats what i was thought about a breakaway cable vs chain when doin my hgv license. 😊

The chains are mandatory in America, I guess it safer than the trailer coming loose and hitting an oncoming car,
@@vxnova1 but in europe the trailer breaks when it comes loose, that's what Adrian was fixing that little read cable for. Have your trailers breaks too?

@@vxnova1 the small ones in europe (max 750kgs) dont have breaks, then a chain is mandatory too indeed. Do you know if those Thunder creek fuel trailers like the Millenial farmer has, have breaks on ehm, the seem heavy when loaded. Even for a big pickup truck 😊
I like the ramp on your trailer but is it harder with those fence things on sides that fold out. Never seen those in the USA.
Side gates a very handy, highly recommended them. Definitely makes the job easier

@@IFarmWeFarm I do a lot of different vermin control for sheep farmers,tillage farmers during the summer and recycling centres but my shooting skills with the camera and editing leave a lot to be desired😄😉

Why do you have branches hanging from the ceiling of the calf house. You have lovely condition on your calves are they all spring calves you have on the farm?
There January to April calves Daniel, branches are male holly which are helpful to prevent ringworm on cattle
I never knew dat I might try dat myself I found ivermec hasn't been that successful this year as a good few of my last year's autm heifers covered in ring worm which dose u find most effective

No not really, i don’t pass a huge remarks as long as they work. I like the yellow as much as the red but have a few blues here too as well 😉👍
@@IFarmWeFarm We're thinking of getting a 1/2 inch Milwaukee impact gun and a cordless angle grinder ourselves. Keen eyes out for cyber Monday. Dad was well pleased with himself he also thought the heifer had Colic and would need paraffin! Great video as always
@@DannyRice01 Milwaukee’s impacts wrenches are better than Dewalt’s, I’ve had both and sold the latter, there cordless grinders are similar but Milwaukee’s trigger version with speed control is brilliant. Cheers Danny

It keeps them settled Adrian, I have noticed a good reduction in fighting/bullying with the radio on especially

what are your thoughts on Karen Moynihans video on TB Adrian im not a farmer but it sounds to me like all you livestock farmers need to be pressurising your goverment into more action
TB has always been a problem, the testing protocols are both stressful for farmers and cattle. Vaccines would be great but there are different strains of TB which makes that complicated but certainly not impossible. Veterinary practices etc make a lot of money from testing, most spending the first half of there day doing so. The accuracy of the test themselves can be questionable . Badger and deer vaccines are there and supposedly been administered although not at the level needed, we have plenty of active sets nearby which have been reported and physically shown to the department many years ago but nothing has been tested nor vaccinated as of yet.
I can’t see any real change happening anytime soon unfortunately James.

You were on your own backing the trailer ramp door against the crush wall and were looking for some help.
If you paced out the distance on the blind side to the wall and drop a piece of silage etc. that distance on the other side you could see and aim for that when backing, you'd be fairly near it with no help required.
