I usually write for no more than two hours a day, but every minute leading up to that time is spent churning that story in my head.
By the time I get in front of my work, I'm usually ready to shoot 2,000 words without a break.
I've never seen someone who is so much like me. I use the same techniques to get things done - with varying success. Also, I often watch TV - WHILE - I'm painting or writing. I know that's weird, but what happens is I automatically tune out the TV after a while, (for the most part). Having the TV on somehow takes the pressure off me to produce, so I can produce.
I have ADHD and I’m wondering if the tv on (especially with something playing I’m not interested in) will give me something to ignore.

I never watched so much TV as I did when I was earning my bachelors. Forty minute speed drill (reading, research, editing), 20 minute break. Got a lot done that way.
Charla Girl I am so her haha! The procrastination, the binge-watching on CZcams- I laughed when she mentioned watching some astrology video on CZcams, and I just did that today! The wasteful activities we writers do, and yet we are aware that if we don't finish a day without doing some amount of writing we feel bad, so I totally relate to her.
I'm glad that she gave tips on how to counter-act her laziness, so I will implement them; and the book she mentioned I just bought it on Amazon right now (my favorite act of distraction, just as dangerous lol)!

So real. This close to my process. Phone distractions and it’s just hard to sit down. I need my back against the wall. We need more talks like this.
Here's an idea: Pay a monthly subscription for a screenwriting software. If you go over a month, your script is locked away behind a paywall and your pockets won't be happy about it.

I don't think she is lazy, I think it is possible she may have ADHD. Of course, I really don't know. I'm just throwing it out there as she is hitting many points. My diagnosis was illuminating.
That's my thinking too! I'm pretty positive she's neurodivergent like myself, I could totally relate. I'm AuDHD.
Possibly, it’s also possible she is just a normal person facing the struggle we all face in doing difficult work. Notice the interviewer saying she had to cancel cable, does she have adhd too since she had to do this. I also have weeks going by where I end up making only a fraction of the progress I want, maybe I have adhd too then.

I’m a slow writer, it takes me so long. Any tips?
Interesting. I get so distracted i have to stay home and work on projects. If i go to Barnes and nobles or the library, I'll get distracted. I need my atomsphere bc i feel safety and comfort.
I only work when I can get the use of my brothers computer. This gives me an incentive. It seems to be working. I have had immense help from a small horror story channel, that has put up a playlist of my stuff. It seems to have been mutually beneficial. Am going to sub and like to this channel.

Seriously tho, I need fewer interruptions and less busy work to take care of. Then I need a solid block of time. Then I need to be comfortable and in the right frame of mind. Then I need to k ow my stuff is good. Then I need people to read it.
I can self publish on Amazon but the lack of readers is demoralizing

She doesn't sound lazy. She sounds ADHD. Those are classic behaviors, choosing the high-dopamine activity over the lesser ones, even if those are the ones with the higher long-term benefit.

If Hollywood writers enjoy real Housewives and Selling Sunset poorly scripted-ass bullshit, now I understand why Hollywood scripts suck most of the time.
It might come as a shock to you, but actual writers are capable of assessing the value of a creative work or piece of entertainment. Did she ever say those reality shows deserved to be in the Criterion Collection…?
@@stephenwegmann8375 The issue is not whether she thinks these shows are of high quality. The issue is that these shows do not give her nausea. They don't make her want to destroy her television. She doesn't just tolerate them. She actively seeks them. They constitute her favorite forms of entertainment. She values them.
