      Thanks for stopping by the channel! Yes. I do wish this was black. I think I’m going to either get a black magnet or vinyl covering for the front face of the CoinBank. I don’t care for the polished metal. I can’t do much about the wires, maybe wrap them in electrical tape? 🤷🏼‍♀️ Honestly if they are sucked away you don’t see them at all.

    Suggestions for a battery pack that fits the tray on the CoinBank? I just spent an hour or so with the demo video at full screen (and using a magnifying glass), trying to read the data on the pack used in the demo, but no luck. (I think the brand on the one in the demo is Orbit, but couldn't find out anything else. 🕵‍♂)
    I now own 12 Ape Coins, and two of those purchases included battery packs, but neither pack fits in the CoinBank. I'm still looking for a (US) source for a Varta 57962 or 57972, even though I don't know if either of those actually fits. (Amazon and eBay searches are too broad.) I've used my CoinBank on top of my 20,800 mAh power bank (not _even_ gonna fit in the tray), but I think it would be a lot easier to move everything if the battery pack was inside the CoinBank.
    This review and Brian S. Redd's were the top two of several that convinced me to go with Ape Labs lighting. (I have an Ape Stick in my collection, too.) For their size, the Coins put on a great show, 😎

      I got my direct from Apelabs. It seems they don’t offer them anymore. These should fit because they are slim.

    I’m guessing why most ape labs are chrome. I noticed any color surrounding the unit it reflects the same color off the units body. Test it if you see it, I know finger prints suck lol

    • @DJRachelLynch
      @DJRachelLynch  Před 3 lety +1

      weelsofsteel2 Oh I totally understand the logic. I just think for DJs, chrome isn’t the best option due to scratches and finger prints. Black or white matches 99.9% of our environments. That’s what I prefer anyway. 🙂

  • @georgethedj4946
    @georgethedj4946 Před 3 lety +1

    Good job presenting the product and options. I love the honest feedback regarding the chrome finish. I’ve only heard great things about the products from APE.
    So what is the cost per active coin bank? (with every thing needed ). I’m guessing 400.00 or so once you add for the power bank?
    Also, is the power bank from APE.
    Thanks again for the review.

    • @DJRachelLynch
      @DJRachelLynch  Před 3 lety +1

      George I don’t believe the power bank is made by ApeLabs. It’s just a recommendation. You can use any power bank. Just make sure it’s thin enough to slide in to the housing. Your cost estimate is about right. It’s about $327 without a power bank. Thanks for stopping by the channel. I appreciate the feedback.

    Thanks for the tips. What size (mAh) battery bank are you using with the Coinbank to at least get 4 to 6 hours of power to the coins?
    Thanks

  • @dianagonzalez-gatherer2634

    For sound mode, I think it would be nice if you can daisy chain multiple coin banks together to have uniformity or link them somehow to have the colors change in unison.....Does the W app do this?

    • @DJRachelLynch
      @DJRachelLynch  Před 3 lety +1

      You can absolutely do this with either the WAPP or the remote. Simply hit “group” and then select the color you want all the lights to be. 🙂

  • @gregaguilera7304
    @gregaguilera7304 Před 3 lety +1

    Love your channel! My question is why would any one invest in the coin bank if a maxi is cheaper? It would be nice for you to do a video on a entry level Ape Labs package that is efficient for gigs and won’t be too steep, I know wishful thinking right?

    • @DJRachelLynch
      @DJRachelLynch  Před 3 lety

      The MAXI cannot achieve the look of the Fresnel Lens. You can not get the “wall art”
      look you can with the Coin bank. That’s the point of the coin bank. To give various colors and custom angles to the fixture for a unique architectural look. They are completely two different lights with two different purposes.
      The coins can also be removed from the “coin bank” and used for other applications. The MAXI is just an up light.
      Unfortunately premium up lighting is expensive. It’s not just an Ape Labs thing. They are priced in line with their direct competitors. Unfortunately lighting that is not Chinese is a pricey investment.
      It’s hard to put together a entry-level package, they offer many styles of fixtures that do different things. If you need up lighting you should buy the maxi. If you’re looking for accent lighting you can get the cans, coins, sticks or the mini’s. If you don’t need a wireless option you can save money and get a apecoin instead of the apecan. Etc. It’s about choosing the right light for the right application.

  • @stevetheq
    @stevetheq Před 3 lety +1

    Since the coins and bank work only with their proprietary controller, how do you coodinate them with your other lighting that you dmx with another software? Mixing music and dealing with two different lighting softwares is a handful. Love these lights though

    • @DJRachelLynch
      @DJRachelLynch  Před 3 lety

      I only use ApeLabs so everything coordinates and syncs up. To my understanding other lighting brands work with their WAPP DMX. I don’t DMX at all, so I’m not able to give you a more informed answer, but I believe you can use other fixtures/brands with the ApeLabs DMX WAPP.

    Hi Rachel, great review. Quick question.. if u have a bunch of Ape Cans, couldnt u achieve the same facade effect by putting 3 cans close together? That way u dont have to use the battery pack and mess with the wires? I understand you wouldnt get the same angles, but if u are just shooting straight up like u were showing, wouldnt it be the same thing with potentially less hassle, plus u now have extra cans in case u need them for larger events? Was wandering what u think? Thx

    • @DJRachelLynch
      @DJRachelLynch  Před 3 lety +1

      There is a significant price difference between the cans and the coins; that is probably the most significant reason why someone would decide to purchase the can or the coins. If money isn’t an object then I would want to grab a set of cans for sure. However, the coin offers a beautiful affect at an entry level price point, so it’s a great option for those looking to get their feet wet with Apelabs.
      There are advantages of both fixtures. The coins are a small versatile light that is used for for many useful applications (not just the coin bank seen here). They are perfect for facades, totems, center pieces, flight cases etc. I have them illuminating my new DJ console and my photobooth. It would be a waste to use an expensive apecan for that application. Same for a facade IMO. The can and the coin have a similar effect, so if I were illuminating my façade I would choose to use the coin over the can simply for cost factor since no one would see the battery pack. But I have used both. You really can’t go wrong either way.
      At the same time the cans look amazing when placed as accent lighting around the room. A DJ might not want to have a visible battery pack as needed by the coins, so they may opt to have the can light. I always believe in using the right tool for the right job. I think it’s great that a blabs gives its users a bunch of options! I hope that answers your question.
