    Fans of Rain Country...save Heidi some time by listening entirely to her videos before asking questions. She is almost always impeccably thorough in each video or through the links. I had a question and sure enough she answered it toward the end. If you’re pressed for time, change playback speed in the upper corner of smartphone to 1.5-2 or use CC. She is still very understandable, even to an old Southerner like me.

    I didn't realise the eggs were inside the grain. That's good to know. Thanks.

  • @jesuschristismylordandsavi6108

    I keep lots of grain. I also buy in 50 lb bags. Here are the methods I use.
    1. Put into 1/2 gal jars and vacuum seal using a vacuum sealer.
    2. Put into Mylar bags and vacuum seal.
    3. Put into Mylar bags and put oxygen absorbers inside the bag and seal.
    4. Put bags into 5-7 gal buckets. Add Mylar bag, then put in grain and then add oxygen absorbers and seal bag then put food grade lid with seal on bucket.
    4.Put into freezer.
    5. Put into 5-7 gal buckets without Mylar. I then fill those buckets with argon gas. Argon is what is used by wire welding machines. It is non-flammable. It is inert. It is heavier than air. I simply fill the buckets with the argon gas. You will know when it is full when you light a match and lower it into the bucket. When the fire goes out, it is because there is not oxygen. Then put a sealed lid on.
    6. Put grain into bucket without Mylar. Pour 2 cups of diatomaceous earth (food grade) into bucket on top of seed. Anything that hatches will crawl over the diatomaceous earth will be cut by the powder and will die from dehydration. Diatomaceous earth is edible. I personally take a heaping tsp in 12 ounces of water twice a day on an empty stomach. It lowers your cholesterol, lowers blood sugars, lowers blood pressure. Increases hair and nail growth. Also contains many micro nutrients.
    These are the 6 methods I use. I rarely use the freezer method any longer.
    God bless you in these last days before the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.

    Also I forgot. You know what I think is going on Heidi with the grains and rice. They’re buying older stuff that has been stored up by farmers to sell. China is buying up all of the grains and beans. So now we’re hitting the sub par supplies. If you go to azure Standard and also where I buy some stuff bread Beckers. If you start looking around at their soy beans black beans and other beans/grains. They are out of stock and have been out of stock! Also at azure standard they always have arriving soon and they will list an arrival date for products. Well for the last couple months that they’ve been out of stock there is no arriving soon with a date!!! YEPPERS!

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  Před 3 lety +1

      Honestly, I am stumped on how and why those weevils came to be so I really cannot answer that. No, I do not replace them, I just keep the same ones in. Also, I am thinking the grains may not be quite as old as I first thought as I had kept buying the Honeyville grains a couple years after I stopped buying their #10 cans of freeze dried products. Even so, they would have to still be about 3 years old. However, I did not have them stored in mylar, just in a the bag they came in a bucket.

    Sorry I haven’t been around commenting. I have been being run through the mill since Christmas time. We came down to Florida for six days. I don’t know if I’ve ever told you this. But the Lord has been calling me to move to Florida for a while now. Now what I’m getting from Him and I could be wrong? Is that it’s not a right this moment thing. But a in the future thing? But every time we come down here all hell breaks loose. So what happened at my house right right before I was due to leave. I Started seeing little black bugs around? Guess what their bowl weevils. And the Lord only knows what they are into. I just could not even deal with it before I left. I was like you know fortunately were in a position if I have to throw all this out I’ll just throw it all out and re-buy it. The Lord has provided us money. I don’t pay any tides to a church because I believe most of them are with the devil. I do give some money where needed to different things. But I look at a circumstance like this like the Lord is giving me money for reasons of these right here.

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  Před 3 lety +3

      We used to pay tithes on a regular basis but also stopped doing that years ago. One reason why is for the very reason you said. Every day it seems more and more that most of them are going to align themselves with the anti Christ. Also, the sermons on tithing are always taken out of context. Now if we were in a true Bible believing church, I would help out where I felt God was leading me but really, any financial help we give anywhere is based on God's guiding anyway and that is the way it should be, not some compulsory "gift" that we feel obligated to do

    I remember my mom saying something about weevils got into something on top of something in the cabinet. I never saw them so I was still oblivious to them. I Hate a bug all of them!
    I got a question Heidi I've looked it up and I noticed the people took him out but I've got these half gallon ball jars and I've read where you can put meat with bones in the pressure canner and that you can put up chicken with the bone. With these have gallon jars I wanted to put some pork ribs in there thinking that they should fit probably pretty good in there but only saw one or two videos and they used short beef ribs and they took the bone out. But I don't want to do it that way I want my way haha 😆 I know I have to do it the right way but I don't know how to do it do you know how?

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  Před 3 lety +1

      While I have yet to can meat with the bone, I do not see why not or what difference it would make. The bones would add minerals to the broth that is created in the canning process. Many people may say there is only one way to do something but much of the time, it is a matter of choice. However, if there is some safety issue there, it would be wise to look into it and find out why. It is like the idea that many people say "never stack your jars" and people have been doing that for years because it was only what they were told by their mom or grandma but even the National Center for Home Preservation says it is safe to stack them up to three high. So it is best to find it if something is simply opinion or if there is actually a solid reason why it should or should not be done

My chicken legs and my chicken wings look great. I need to open up one and cook it and see how it did. When I do I'll let you know. I hate to ask but to be sure, you’re saying if I put my wheat berries straight into Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers and a bucket, that it will kill the bugs. ( disabled, hard time comprehending at times and I’ve got 4 bags I just got shipped) thanks Heidi!

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  Před 2 lety +1

      I cannot say for certain it will kill them, especially if the O2 absorbers is one of the many worthless ones out there or if the bag gets a hole but it should help at least.

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  Před 3 lety

      The reason some people freeze grains for several days or more BEFORE packing away in jars or buckets is to kill any weevil eggs that may be in he grains. Here is a more recent video I did on that: czcams.com/video/o6Pfn0xO3WM/video.html
      Yes, you can vacuum seal them into jars or put them into mylar bags that you either heat seal shut or get the ones with zip closures then put in food grade buckets with air tight seals. Some will choose to add oxygen absorbers to their bags. I do not

    Just dashed all of my hopes since I’ve been using bay leaves. 😫 Would it be different using bay leaves with flour though, since the weevils would have to hatch eggs in the flour? It is challenging when one doesn’t have the freezer space to freeze initially.

    • @RainCountryHomestead

      I believe they help keep bugs out, so that would include flour as it is less likely they are in the flour when purchased.

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  Před 2 lety

      Yes, and I would say better as mylar can get punctured and oxygen absorbers often fail. Sugar never needs to be vacuum sealed unless you just want to prevent moisture. Some people still like to freeze before vacuum sealing but it is not necessary since you are depriving it of oxygen

    Okay….I had three 25 lbs bags of hard white wheat berries. Did not have room in my freezer for 25 lbs bags……so I took a brown paper lunch bag put in 12 cups in each bag, folded over the flap, taped down the middle of each sack…..then took the bags and put them in a 1 gallon food saver bag and removed the air and sealed…..then put the bags in the freezer for 3 days….then took them from the freezer and brought them to room temp…..then placed them in a heavy duty black tote.
