Whenever you started playing, Minecraft updates have changed the game substantially over the years, and that means there are some features that have been left in the past. Yep thought i started playing in 2013 but then i realised i startes in the very orignal version and game with just grass and cobblestone. Ahhhh im so glad i grew up with dat but dammm minecraft today is soooo much better

Yeh, I remember all of these. I started roughly around the time the Nether was released. That thing you mentioned about beaches and snow being together REALLY brought back memories for me…good times. Then again, Minecraft’s come a long way and a lot of cool things have been added since I’ve joined. Time flies.

I started when minecraft still had a “trial” version I ran it on a Pc that could barley hold it at 10fps but I fell in love with the game watching this really brought back the original days, but boy am I glad it changed..
I remember having that bad glass texture back when I started playing this game back in 2012, I am SO glad that is no longer the texture cause now I can actually look through my windows without having to make panes!

heck yes, opaque glass and location markers, my childhood - i forgot so much of this xD
I played it for about 3 years when it first came out (well abt 6 months after release) then when the LAN parties my then-boyfriend-now-husband organised (100+ people) stopped I kinda stopped gaming all together but the itch would come back but I couldn't find my old account and broke me never bought it again until COVID-19 hit and I got serious back issues that even prevented me from walking for a while so my hubby bought it after numerous attempts to retrieve the old account. And ehm yeah, kind of hooked and play it all the time. Back is slowly improving so hopefully I'll be able to use my pc instead of my laptop in bed and I can really play properly with no drifting mouse, no keyboard slip-n-slide and ergonomically better. In the meantime I just love creative mode stuff, listening and watching your and Grian's videos and enjoying the fun the hermits get up to.

This game has changed so much since Alpha, just picked it up again now after a few years. So many cool and amazing features has been added.
When you were talking about feeling safe in water n about to bring up the drowning thing, I instantly remembered making bases based around water where mobs couldn’t spawn.. now we have drowned to annoy us

4:02 Y'all remember Cube Creator? I had it on my Nintendo 3ds, because it was the only Minecraft-like game on a Nintendo system at the time (which is why I was kind of miffed when they added Minecraft for the switch). It certainly wasn't on Minecraft's level but it was a decent quality game, and it had its own physics and concepts and whatnot. It definitely had its quirks (animals didn't swim, they just stood at the bottom of water, if you lost your stuff it was gone for good and the game kept telling you to go find it, and every resource was limited) but I still had a fun time with it. Darn, I'm getting nostalgic. I should go play some Cube Creator...

I remember when Minecraft hadn't added rails into pocket edition yet. I had seen a friend use them in java and decided that I could do that too. I instead made a tunnel and just put ladders on the walls and called it a day.

I’m playing an HQM mod, Regrowth, that is based on MC version 1.9 and boats can break of chunk lag! Not funny when big parts of the map in endless water and you take drowning damage almost immediately (drowning thing is part of the mod). You learn to have an extra boat always on you.

Ah yes I still remember I've been playing before nether reactor cores was even a thing
Ive played Minecraft since early Alpha. Doors used to be totally different not even having an animation just either open or closed and made a loud noise. Stairs looked different and they wouldnt connect round corners. Mobs wouldnt run when they took damage especially cows which now sprint like mad. Textures were very different but some not so much. The classic dirt block hasnt changed much but neither has Iron for example. You never used to be able to sprint back in early minecraft only run which we would class now as walking. There were only chickens cows and sheep in basic minecraft and only pigs dropped meat. Farms were never a thing nor were seeds so no wheat or bread. Following on from the animal mobs chickens only occasionally dropped feathers as with cows dropping leather it was rare. Porkchops from Pigs were not stackable so you had to hold each one in a slot on its own. There was also no eating animation and it healed hearts there was no Hunger bar at all. Slabs were never a thing unless they were stone only. Glass panes never existed only glass blocks. Skeletons were never as smart as they are now and never used to do a sprint animation after firing. Enchanted items were never a thing. Spiders would often get caught on blocks but would drop from high up as they do now so mob spawners even in early skyblock days were difficult to manage getting clogged with so many spiders youd have to go up, open the top and kill the spiders to lower the mob cap fill allowing more of the other mobs to appear. Only Zombies, Creepers, Skeletons, Spiders and Skeleton jockeys existed. Baby zombies, Zombie villagers, End and Nether mobs came a lot later

Not only did this remind me of old Minecraft, but it reminds me of the CZcamsrs I used to watch. I still remember watching Stampy and how he made his world before jungle biomes.
Things I remember from OG minecraft:
Your world was either all snowy, or no snow. There was no in between.
Pistons were a mod which blew everyone's minds - prior to the mod, everything was just decorative and nothing moved (except sand and gravel)
The old fire mechanics. One spark could destroy an entire forest, it just never stopped burning and spread crazy fast

You forgot the satisfaction when there was snow on sand and it still exist today i think
I remember everyone being disappointed in the real pistons when they were added, because the mod pistons could be used to launch you or launch sand or gravel.

I still used location pillars even when beacons were in the game cuz when I joined I had no idea how to use them
The simulation of the drowning effects, oh gosh, I do remember that. Water physics used to be *horrible,* and it's no accident that the newer swimming mechanics are part of why I've fallen back in love with surviving in this game.
When instead of cats looking how they are now, they looked like ocelots and then they looked like normal cats when u tame the ocelot

And I remember when placing two half slabs on each other, then mining it, would give you the actual full block instead of 2 half slabs.
And half slab planks somehow where quicker to mine with a pickaxe than with an axe (and also made the same sound as mining stone did)

I remember when you could save wood by leaving spaces in wooden ladders.
That was 1.9
meanwhile I played on ps3 and that was never something I could do, the moment ladders were added in they had to be a solid line to climb them.
It wasn't really a savings. They were more expensive to craft.

I remember when zombies rarely dropped iron ingots, carrots, potatoes and feathers. I was surprised when I was playing recently and a zombie dropped a carrot, I thought this stopped happening long ago
