Really impressive DIY build. You see many of these expensive home theater companies come in and they don’t address sound proofing/isolation and things like backer boxes, puttying the outlets, and properly air exchange that does not carry noise throughout the house. They just come in and slap a bunch of expensive equipment and leave without addressing the room. I just watched this really expensive build (probably $150k easy between just projector, screen, speakers, and amps) and they didn’t add any absorption or diffusion. Just bare painted drywall in a big box.

Thank you kindly Stevo. Home theater tours have definitely always been a favorite on my channel. I know I enjoy them just as much as everyone else. In January 2020 I made the jump to do this full-time, my plan was to do consistent home theater tours but the pandemic slow down a bit.

This was such a great video. I have a space that is almost identical, all the speakers are also so close to the same, I just went with 2 devistators up front and I have 16 12” jbl for boss platforms. I’m currently building both the room and the speakers and hope to be done by spring.

What he is saying about the riser is what I’ve experienced in my set up too. Bass is more tactile on mine. Sounds and feels better.

While I really enjoy all these HT's and the talent and knowledge these guys have is impressive. But I really take my hat off to "YOUTHMAN" for all the work behind the scenes that we don't see and the long hours and the frustration. The best solution for doors. Get solid core outside doors with trim and threshold plates. All my doors, even bathroom now have this and no rattle at all, and superb noise blocking traits.
This was my favorite of this series. I love the DIY side of this hobby.

Yes, DIY is the way to go! I sometimes wish I could be happy with commercially built speakers, it would make life so much easier but I just can't.

I have a server set up in my office loaded with all of my media and a raspberry pi 4 at each tv.
Edit: for those that don't have a super dedicated theater, most smart tv controls can automatically be used with your pi as long as you have the proper settings.
You can use yatse on an android device also for more detailed control.

I am sttill running my 45 year old Klipsch Cornwalls as L&R speakers, so a six year build sounds pretty short. :)

Fantastic theater. We have such similar stories, except I started 13 year before you. I did all my construction with sound clips and similar soundproofing. I worked every even amd weekend for a year and took 4onths off and then 6 more months to finish. I didn't do much upgrading after completion other than components.
I just finished 2 full Marty's with 18" drivers. Have the 1099's on backorder for LCR and HT 10's for the rest of the bed layer and Volt 8's open rear baffle in a sealed, soundproofed box for Atmos.
While I am waiting for those I am in the middle of absorption panels as well as some diffuser panels surrounding the room as well as a accoustic cloud for the ceiling.
The final DIY project is a Devastator sub with 21" driver in the back middle and two 18" Mini Marty's in each of the back corners.
You are way ahead of me on future wirings as I did some, but in 2001, there was no info for future on Home Theater and 7.1 was brand new over the original 6.1. I pre wired front heights as well as wides, I got lucky with the wides as my original plan was to try to run a seconds side surround and have a slight delay like the cinemas of the day. I will add the wides when I get a 25 channel processor a few years down the road.
One question I have is what is FSK tape and how are you using it for some reflection? For my diffusion panels I am making am absorption panels and taking a 1/4" sheet of oak and use a router to make slots similar to the GIK panels and they should give the same result. I also want to try to build a curved diffuser and I will use a router just to make some small holes all about 4" apart to have a little absorption. I am very curious about the tape as that may be something I can try with the ceiling absorbtion as I can't have too much weight. I would love to mount the cloud panels with Velcro to keep the seal or at the worst, screw into the hat track and fill the hole with pliable accoustic caulking to keep as soundproof as possible.
Thanks so much for sharing your project, it shows that people can build these rooms for less than half the cost of most others. I am far from a handyman, I just research take my time, measure twice. At least I have CZcams videos I can watch now!!
For the FSK tape - I tried to follow some of the other theaters in avs that did it the "affordable" way. Try to have some strips in the corner, and then around the surrounds. Since all of my panels are removable, I could potentially go in later and do some additional treatments. BIGMouthinDC posts his diy version in a few threads from time to time. I think one of the posts in the diggler thread also did what I tried to accomplish. I may play with it down the line later, but generally am pretty happy with my sound. Need to try doing some measurements, but just enjoying it for a while first. Not sure if it would be recommended on ceiling clouds or not.

Just started this video and already am impressed in the first 5 seconds as the theatre chairs are NOT blocking the back of their heads allowing you to hear the side and surround channels. Just me being silly I know, but I am confused when people spend so much on speakers and a room to block half of it off? Having the head rest above your ears 😳

@@Youthman yeah most likely. Whenever I replace my current plasma my thought is to go UST laser projector and I am mostly looking for audio upgrades.
There's always time to learn. Start with small, simpler projects. Those diy surrounds are very easy to build and most hardware stores will cut the wood for you if you lack the equipment. Don't be afraid to fail.
For me it’s not about learning. I have no actual desire for building, construction or DIY.

@Youthman I am DIYing my own theater speakers and have the Full Martys on order, still a few weeks out to get them, but I am very curious in your opinion, how do they stack up against some of the other subs you have heard on your tours? and maybe against your own personal subs, JTRs or the SVS PB Ultra?

Youthman! Love your videos, brother. I was hoping you’d weigh in on something for me. After watching CES 2022, we’re seeing TV screens getting HUGE. LG debuted a 97” OLED and Samsung has “The Wall.” Do you think this trend of larger TVs will hurt the Projecter/Screen home theater experience? Would love to know your take on this. 97” is huge, and I can only imagine they’re gonna get bigger.
I personally do not see it hindering projectors for awhile. Most people that purchase a projector are looking at 110” or larger. It will be MANY years before TV’s can reach my 150” size at an affordable price.
Great room! Really well thought out and designed. I might have missed it, but did Brad also do the framing and drywall himself or did he bring in a contractor?
He said he did everything himself, except near the end he hired someone to help out with some final items.
Hey Adam - I did the framing, hanging drywall, subfloor, trim/wainscoting, rieser, stage, etc. Hired out ceiling mud/tape, painting, frabric frames, and carpet. Mainly the last detail-oriented stuff as the project had just been going on SO LONG :)

It doesn't matter how big the screen is when it comes to seeing the weave. 110" or 159" screen, the weave is the same size. Seeing the weave and screen size are 2 separate issues. As long as you cant see the weave you can make the screen as large as you want.

The customisation to make your library look sexy on Kodi is insane.
Plus integration with Philips Hue lighting and LIFX with the add-ons takes it to another level. Dimming lighting automatically when a movie is played and undimming when paused is awesome.

Second row platform needs to be solid to decrease the extra boominess.
Insullation works just as well and acts as a large bass trap
A free suggestion for this setup take out the behringer it’s like a Kia car and get Hypex nCore 502 Hypex is Lexus plate amp for your bass. Another driver that will blow the mind and keep wife happy is peerless STW 350 15” driver in 60 litre sealed box maybe 2 even 1 is enough if u don’t want to disturb your master bedroom upstarts
If not a Hypex plate amp get Hypex nCore amplifiers and use miniDSP and later Dirac facility also there
The interesting thing is most people that have done blind test with amplifiers could not accurately tell the difference between them.
@@Youthman surprising I have behringer and crown and Hypex on my open Baffel dual 15” woofers and many bass notes never felt and heard what Hypex offered. If u can’t get Hypex get the purify modules equally good if not better.

I like this fella. Smart and modest. He knows a ton but has no interest in explaining why his system is better than others. Its gotten way too campy at the so called reference level home theater. I dont want to agree or disagree, i just want to see cool home theater stuff but its just gotten really arrogant and hypocritical lately. Man, that would be too big/close for me. It'd be like being in the front row of the theater. I'm 12' away from a 129" screen and that's as close as I ever would want to be. In fact I thought I was overdoing it and here I think my screen is the smallest of any of these KC setups.

@@Youthman Absolutely. All of these HTs have second row seating too, which I don't, so the bigger screen makes viewing in the second row better.
I’m 9’ from 150” 2.35:1. To me, my rear row isn’t immersive enough at 14’ but again, that’s my preference. We all have to find out what works best for us
So I kinda joked about the guy in your last video not looking at you, but THIS GUY takes the cake! Lol The only time he looked at you was when YOU were talking! Lol Okay, pardon me, but these are just the little things that I notice. Lol But really nice room!
Keep in mind this was the very first time I have met these guys. I’m sure it’s a bit awkward to have a 39 min conversation with someone you have just met while a camera and LED lights are blinding you.
@@Youthman You're really gracious Youthman. Really gracious. I personally would ask each guest to just be mindful of their eye contact, as it (particularly, too little eye contact) affects the quality of the footage content, for some. It can be a little awkward for the viewer.

Thank you for the kind words. I honestly don’t see myself coaching someone regarding iContact. More than likely that would make them feel even more awkward as they already nervous about what they are going to say with the video. I have had maybe two people mention the eye contact in only two out of maybe 40 videos over a 4 year period which tells me that it’s likely not an issue for most that are watching. But I appreciate the feedback.
@@Youthman I hear you. Just answer me this: during the interviews, in those low eye contact moments, are you cognizant of the fact that the person isn't looking at you much? I'm just curious. Because for whatever reason, it's the elephant in the room.
NX5 with 158"....and he has good light ? i have my doubts...
100% looks incredible! You saw a few clips of actual footage from Ready Player One in the video. Did that look dim to you?
@@Youthman cant judge by video recording and you know that. there are members even with NX7 that don't pass the 150" zone. is it reference or simple projection?
Not sure where it measures, but so far everyone has been pleased with the brightness that have seen it so far. NX5 does a good job with the tone mapping, even if you don't reach the highest of highs. We'll see once the bulb starts to age, but so far so good! Maybe down the line I'll look into an anamorphic lens to help boost it a bit when watching 2.35, but like I said, so far there hasn't been a need.

Are you sure you watched the video? Go back and watch 7:13 - 9:10. That entire section was referring to the Full Marty subs.
@@Youthman I saw that. Full Marty is the type of enclosure. I was curious about the subwoofer drivers.
Oh my bad. Yeah I don’t think he mentioned that. I’m not familiar with Full Marty and didn’t realize that only refers to the enclosure.
