    Very nice setup, and a great choice in speaker components for your surround system, Eminence speakers are so underrated, most people dom't realize that pro musicians use eminence speakers in their electric guitar and bass guitar amplifiers. Can't wait to see when you install the 24"subs and give a sound demo! 👍👍👍

    Excellent progress, do keep up the good work! I'd love to hear the 1299s one of these days, but I'm quite happy with my 1099s for my LCR. I also use the Volt 10s for the side rears and the rear backs. Then I've got the Volt 6 for the overhead height channels.
    I can't wait to see the further progress you have in store for your system, especially with the 24" subwoofers. I've considered them before, but I've wound up with just using 21" and 18" drivers instead within my space.
    I've never looked back at pre-made products at the store again. lol

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  Před 5 lety

      Ha... "Just 21s and 18s". Bigger than 99% of all other home theaters! I bet they sound great man!
      Yea the 1099s sounded great when I heard them. A friend has a set but I've only listened to them for a few hours as he lives out of town. Very accurate and capable speakers for sure. You've got a heck of a system it sound like. I'm looking to replace the speakers in my 2 overhead monoprice Ambers with Volt 8s eventually. It looks to be a pretty easy swap, screw holes line up from a thread I've seen on AVSForum. You'll see if I do it obviously.

    congrats on your viewer success! much deserved! would be interesting if you did a 5.2.4 configuration to compare it to your 5.1.2. My hometheater is more geared towards movie viewing. Maybe even a mass consumer avr (denon x4400h for example) versus the high amp capabilities you have. I find the idea of dedicating an amp to the LRC speakers the most compelling. Just a few thoughts. Thanks!

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  Před 5 lety +2

      Thanks man, I've been very fortunate with all the support! My setup would be very difficult to make a 4 point atmos setup without having very visible wires unfortunately. I felt the space just didn't allow for it and thought the more simple 2 point system worked better. I will be reviewing the emotiva XPA-7 soon to go over receiver vs separate amp soon. I had an older emotiva LPA-1 for a few months with this setup but a channel died on me. Planning on getting it fixed, but I will say I really do enjoy a separate amp

    You have a system to be proud of brother. I wouldn't swet the 80hz drop off for the surrounds as this is the most recommended cutoff for surrounds, the beastly sub's will gladly take it from there. That projector is pretty awesome with the lights off also.

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  Před 5 lety +1

      Thanks man. Yea once those are up and running, 80 Hz will be the cutoff anyways. It'll be nice to use the towers for some 2 channel music or set them to full range when it's super late at night and I don't want to disturb the family too much lol.
      Yea with the lights on and through the camera, it didn't look the best. Hard to capture. But in person even with low lights on in the bar, it's fantastic!

    It was required to isolate mid-range speakers from main space in a separate small box.
    Yes, and for adequate visibility of the frequency response graphs, it is advisable to use a logarithmic scale.

    I enjoy your show a lot I stumble upon your videos while researching home theater setups I just recently got some free tower speakers. my current speakers are pinnacle gold classic towers they're pretty old I was wondering instead of building brand new towers would you recommend I should just upgrade the tweaker and the drivers ( I'm assuming that's what they are called it the big 8 inch speakers that are in my tower I'm not sure what the proper term for that is? As my first project?

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  Před 4 lety

      Thanks man. Yea that is definitely an option, just find some good drivers that will fit as replacements. You'll probably want to make a new crossover as well. You can either look on parts express for one that would fit your needs or look into building one from scratch

    This is what I call a home theater setup. I’m curious how it performs when you hook up some active subs. I assume you have a 3 feet ceiling between your basement and the first floor? I mean sensitivity of 99 dB each speaker at 1 m distance is incredible high. Furthermore, the Yamaha amp you use, which model is it? Great 👍🏻 video.

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  Před 5 lety

      Thanks man. I had the Dayton UM15 hooked up for the movie stuff, but not for the measurements. I don't think it's quite 3 ft between, closer to 18-24 inch. Using the Yamaha RX-A3070. My emotiva LPA-1 just blew up on me this past week actually. Will be looking for a replacement sometime soon...

  • @timschutte8310
    @timschutte8310 Před 5 lety

    , I've never heard of Volt speakers ? nice because I like more bass coming from speakers instead of just using a subwoofer for your main bass. although a subwoofer is a must, especially for movies but I like my music to have enough low end to where I actually have to cut back on the bass output on my receiver. kind of like the older Cerwin Vega tower speakers, love them by the way. there is no substitute for larger woofers.
    so many manufacturers are going with smaller woofer sizes most don't get the combination of a good quality cabnet, crossover, and actual driver choice. the port design is equally as important for good bass as well as a good high quality amp/receiver with a HIGH CURRENT CLASS A amp design. good to see someone choose speakers of this type.
    thumbs up !!!

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  Před 5 lety +1

      Thanks Tim! Yea the volts are a really cool design, especially for surrounds. I'll do some more testing and measurements on all of the speakers soon and post the results.
      I gotta say, after some more movie listening, these things just keep getting better. Watched Ready Player One and it was amazing. The depth and realism of the larger drivers is really something... Pretty cool. I actually have an Emotive LPA-1 amp, but it literally died on my last week! Looking to do something else in the future as well as get this one fixed. I'll definitely make some content on whatever I go with

    • @timschutte8310
      @timschutte8310 Před 5 lety

      Life of Bliss , Emotiva just came out with a new 800 watt amp. for the money compared to other high quality amps out there, you really caint go wrong with Emotiva.
      I have a 1976 Pioneer amp/receiver. damn things weighs a 100 pounds which is the transformer mostly but my God will it crank my AR tower speakers. Acoustic Research, side mounted 10 inch woofers. I have two pair of these that I bought at a garage sale about 15 years ago.
      I recently purchased a pair of JBL towers that I returned, no comparison.

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  Před 4 lety +1

      I can't really say one would be better than the other, all depends on what you prefer sound wise. I will say I like the larger drivers as I feel they sound more lifelike, but again that's my personal opinion. These are the 1299 model, so they have the 12 inch drivers, but these can handle over 600 watts (maybe even 800, is have to look it up). They can handle a huge amount if power but they don't need a lot to get loud in a home theater setting due to their high sensitivity.

    People love drivers all across the board. Look up the KEF Uni Q speakers. They try to have the LEAST amount of drivers for a more defined sound. Many driver may LOOK impressive but you have interference patterns everywhere when the soundwaves from all those drivers cross each other. And that means distortion. And you have the vowels and consonants coming from a foot apart rather than coming from the same point (like it does with a mouth). And you have the texture and the tone coming from a foot apart as well. The plucking of an instrument is coming from a foot away from the tone of the instrument. But with KEF Uni Q speakers you don't have that problem and the sound is more 3D (what hifi is all about).

    Is your av receiver putting out enough power for the speakers? i had a browse through the website and those speakers have a very high output rating

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  Před 5 lety +1

      Good question... Even thought these speakers have a power handling of around 800 watts, they have sensitivity of 99db - 2.83v/1m. Meaning at 1 watt, they reach 99 db. For each 3 db increase (perceived double in sound) you need to double the wattage. So 2w=102db, 4w=105db, 8w=108db... and so on. That gets pretty loud in a hurry... The Yamaha RX-A3070 has a 2 channel output of 165w per channel. It's most likely much less than that when full surround sound is playing, likely around 100w per channel. But, that is still plenty of power to get close to 120db, which is extremely loud. But these speakers are capable of extremely loud volumes
      That said... my Emotiva LPA-1 external amplifier just died on me this last week unfortunately. It was a 125w x 6 channel amp. I am looking to replace that with something more powerful for better dynamics. I have something in the works, we'll see if it happens... ;)

      @@LifeofBliss I recently built (still tuning some, loads of options to increase the good/tune them...) with 12" coax eminence with eminence compression driver and 18" woofers in an H frame... I kinda no longer comprehend making speakers with new fangled tiny long throw drivers....
      Glass is evil, and you have 2 giant pieces of it directly behind your head getting pummeled by sound, if/when you cure that things will improve dramatically. With my windows in my listening room I took my Dad's stethoscope and listened to the glass, it was making a horrid shrieking sound... the thing is, windows and door are not only vibrated by the sound (everything is...) but also by the structure they are mounted to, in my case cinder block... evil combo. So, it's not possible to stop it vibrating, so what to do? My take, after a few tries I got it to work, is to change the vibration via damping. I applied 2" 30 or 50 duro sorbothane pucks to the windows until the vibrations were contained to low frequencies somewhat in harmony with the music (6 pucks per window plus some smaller pieces, it has zero wife appeal factor, in fact, it's has a negative rating...). Big change in the rooms sound. So my suggestion is to try and dampen the glass... or go for some thick wood doors that you, being an ace builder, would make yourself.
      That more or less hard roll-off at 50 hz is going to/might/should make mating with the subs easier...

    Why do you use measurements at all when you smooth them down to 1/6?
    After all, you want to equalize room modes out. I would recommend to use the smoothing as little as possible and measure at the listening position.

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  Před 4 lety +1

      Yea at the listening position would have been better. This was some of my first experiences with measurements and REW. You have to do a little smoothing to not just see a bunch of jagged lines. I don't use any smoothing when looking at sub responses though

  • @canillocanillo3371
    @canillocanillo3371 Před 5 lety

    did you run REW with out the receiver applying the processing? It looks like the center channel dropped at 80hz almost exactly when the recejver would be cutting the signal to it. Same thing with the mains... if the receiver identified them as Large it would cut them at around 60hz. You have to make sure the receiver is set to Pure direct or what ever the option on your AVR is to allow pure sound without any processing applied

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  Před 5 lety

      Ah, see? That's why I didn't get too far into that... The processing was off I thought. I changed it to manual EQ to leave everything flat and the speakers to Large for the measurements. The other options were a few YPAO settings and a "Through" setting. I'm guessing the Through one would have been better for the measurements... Could also be why I'm not feeling the lows like I thought I would with the towers. I mean, they are ported to ~35Hz tuning... DIdn't know that Large would still cut them at 60. But makes sense if so cause that's where they dropped. I appreciate the insight man, I'll try that later on!

    • @canillocanillo3371
      @canillocanillo3371 Před 5 lety

      Life of Bliss Yes its very likely that was your problem then. Setting the eq to flat wont change the cut off freq the AVR is cutting the speakers... and with the single 15 inch sub not being able to keep up you will be missing lots of low extension. Do you have a preamp on your set up? If you do...you can connect the computer to the preamp directly for audio and send only video signal to the AVR so you can still see the REW on the projector screen. If not then make sure the AVR is set to no processing and just run the test again the same way you did last time. Also I would recommend positioning the mic at listening position. This will give you a more accurate measurement of what YOU are listening. with your room layout you might not have a-lot of room gain, but those 4 12” should hit the 30hz no with issues and actually have authority at that freq.

One thing you may run into is not getting enough input power from your receivers RCA outputs, so the volume will be very low. These pro audio amps require a little more voltage than most consumer products usually deal with. I tried hooking it up to my regular speakers once and didn't get much volume out of it. Im new to the home theater world. I have one 12” sub and it rattles my house. What is the difference between having a 12” sub and having 6 12’s in your towers. I’m having a hard time understanding why you would need a sub.

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  Před 5 lety +1

      Well those 12s are more for the mid-bass and not the real low frequencies subwoofers play. Just a different speaker design. I don't know the exact cutoff frequency for the 12s, but they will play around 50 Hz up to 3000-5000 Hz usually in a 3 way tower design. If they go too low, I believe it will cause the other sounds in that frequency range to become more distorted. Subwoofers usually don't play any higher than 100-150 Hz and can play those lower frequencies since they usually have a better xmax (distance the cone/voice coil can move). Subs can play down into the range where humans can't hear anymore (under 20 Hz) but can definitely be felt and adds to the experience.
      These multiple 12s help to make the sound more natural and effortless. A lot less movement is needed to create the same volume as 6 6" speakers would take. Less movement usually equates to less distortion as well. I'm not an expert in audio engineering by any means, this is just what I've learned after a lot of research and time on forums. Hope that helps Michael

    Get yourself a mini DSP then you can balance it all out shouldn't need a subwoofer bass reflex drivers would have been better

      You I have a minidsp 2x4 hd for the subs when I get them going. I'd need a larger model like an 8x10 or the Dayton 4x8 model that came out recently for the mains.

      If You got some ability to put together a circuit board I wouldn't go with the mini DSP ? I go with the linkwitz lab, and probably the ASP over DSP would be better and his the master of active crossover

      I'll have to take a look into that... Probably stick with the MiniDSP for the subs at least since I already have one, but I'll research the Linkwitz Lab

    I don't understand how the surrounds could be good sound with just the single large woofer.

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  Před 2 lety

      It's a coaxial design. There is a compression driver than screws into the back of the main woofer. Sound comes through the acoustically transparent dust cap on the 10 inch woofer. So it has both a woofer and "tweeter" (compression driver) in the design

    Sorry to say but you dont hear bass because you tuned it to 34-35hz if you had tuned the box to around 50-60hz you wouldnt have that problem because it would have a f3 or f10 of 30-40hz tuning these speaker boxes to 35hz you are letting go of the majority of the potential of these pa woofers... If you would make a bandpass box for these they would do even better..even so love the review not trying to say you are wrong just trying suggest a good fix for the problem

      No offense taken, appreciate the insight. I think I also had the settings wrong in the receiver. I turned the tuning off and let it on manual EQ and Large for the speakers. Someone said they still cut off at 60 Hz unless it is set to pure or through, so I need to go back and take some more measurements that way. If that was the case it makes sense the ported boxes dropped off at 60. We'll see though... I'll do a better video with measurements once I figure it out more

    Dude. Spend like $80 - $100 on a used LG V20 to do your sound test videos. Man, when you switch from the voiceover to the "Now for some listening demos." segment, I mean that was so disappointing. You could even use the mic you used for the voiceover for the sound demo. I wouldn't have said anything if you just had the one method of recording.

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  Před 5 lety

      That was recorded with a $60 RODE Mic. Gotta realize that the recording being compressed during editing then compressed again on CZcams won't be like the real deal. The voiceovers were done with the UMIK-1 I used for the measurement sweeps. First time I have been able to mess with that Mic in both settings actually. But feel free to send over that V20 if you want some demos done with one!
