    Hi Eric. Fabulous DIY series. Thanks for the level of detail you provide in your videos. The pond you helped me build last years has been great. And, the support you and Leslie have provided is greatly appreciated. Keep up the great work.

      TruthSeeker 3:16 Thank you so much for your ongoing support! How is your pond doing? Last I saw the clarity was off and the quantity of aquatic plants in the pond looked a little light. Give me an update. Would love to hear from you on that.

    This is the main reason i did not do a bottom drain on my 4000 gallon pond .I would not be comfortable doing it my self .This part should be done by a pro or you may pay the price for a ruined liner .Great explanation of how to do it and all the precautions you should take .

    I also had to do it in a rush it was Feb. here and moles or something chewed through my liner in 5 spots and worked through 3 snow storms .Fish were in 3 stock tanks and was worried about them as 2 of them are around 2 ft. long .Plus I had to do most of it myself and that is not an easy job to do .I use a pool net to clean the bottom and don't have rocks on the bottom ,I also have a new aerator that I put 2 bigger air membranes on and 4 bigger air discs on also .I would have loved a bottom drain but was worried about the weather and time it would take to figure it all out .I have seen several people fail doing bottom drains correctly .It scared me so I did not try it .I may have been able to do it now that I see this video but I would still think a pro could do it faster and better .I remodeled 2 houses and built decks on my house and remodeled 2 of my sisters kitchens but a cutting a hole in a liner scares me .I guess the cost of liners and getting one is what scared me away .I live in rural VA and there is nothing here and last winter was the worst we have had since I have been here .

    Pond Digger: You placed sealer on top of the bottom drain/bottom side of the liner, then placed the top ring on the top side of the liner. You did not place additional sealer between the top ring/top side of the liner, is that not necessary? Would it cause a problem if you did? Would it be extra security do place sealer there also? Thank you

    • @ThePondDigger
      @ThePondDigger  Před 9 lety

      brendabartz2026 It's not necessary. You can certainly add more sealant to the areas you mentioned but it's just an unneeded mess to deal with.

    Hey Eric, thank you so much for putting all this awesome content together. I’m planning on digging a pond next summer and your videos have been very useful. The bottom drain is really cool, would you suggest using it in a liner pond with stone and gravel? Maybe with a mesh around the drain?
    Also the return jets you show in the other video, can that be used with a rock walled pond or will I have to somehow bring the jets to lineup with the rock wall? Would love to hear your expert opinion. Thanks!

    Hello Eric, Great videos! I'm curious how you attach the pvc air supply line to the air pump. Is there a fitting to attach the pvc to the barbed fitting on most air pumps? Thanks for your time.

    Can you explain how the gap size between dome and drain determines flow?

    • @ThePondDigger
      @ThePondDigger  Před 9 lety

      mindgame01 The diameter of the drain opening is roughly 24" to 30" x 1/2' or 3/4" in height. The important things to consider are 1. we don't want fish to go into the drain so we want a small profile 2. we want the opening large enough for heavy sediment to make it's way into the drain. 3. we are determining flow rates by the size of the pipe. In this application we are using 4" drain pipe so our target flow rate is approximately 3600 gallons per hour through the drain. This is just slow enough to not break up the debris like fish poop as it makes it's way to the Helix settlement tank. Hope that helps.
