Always looking forward to watching your vids. I wouldn’t want you changing a radiator in my house lol. Proper flush , always amazed with the crap left in drains . People think their drum/nexus drains will remove it all
Thanks 🙂 At least you wont have any muck in your heating system 🙂. I know it can be surprising but it can also cause a lot of issues for a pond to have that stuck in the pipework rotting away.
I'm impressed with the fact you can stand in that cold water. Not sure of water temperature here (southern Ontario Canada) as pond is completely covered in about 6" of solid ice and the air temperature this morning is - 12C although warmer weather expected later this week. I do have a 4" bottom drain on my pond which I purge weekly during pond season so thankfully not too many issues with flow into the filters. Looking forward to your next video.
I couldn't feel my feet the air was 3DegC and the water was heated to 9DegC an unheated pond would be about 5DegC at the moment here in UK. If it was -12DegC I wouldn't leave the house 🙂. Thanks 🙂
Another top video I run my purge valves in to a manifold all 4 inch then I can fully flush each one via gate valves independent of each other then once done I shut off a big 4 inch ball valve just incase gate valves leak it makes a big difference id recommend this video to anyone starting a build and get purge valves as low as possible to get maximum force 😊👍🏻👍🏻
With my new pond adjustments (rebuild) just sounds cheaper to the misses . 2500gallons was going to b on 3” bottom drain is now 4” with a 4” purge valve 👍.great video as alway Adam 🐟🐠🐟
I’m from the USA where are you from in the UK? My mom is from Yorkshire, grew up in Bradford. I got to go to school there when I was 6 & we lived there for a few years. I really miss it! Haven’t been to the UK since 1985 to visit my grandad he lived up in northumberland after my grandparents went back because my nanna got cancer. Anyway you remind me of myself because I love messing around in water! We have a gold fish pond in the front yard nothing fancy but it was me & my sisters hangout in summer! Still have some fish! And when I went to school in Yorkshire they had a sand pit & a water tub I was always in the water! Take care of those fantastic koi!
Adam. I used a much simpler way to purge my bottom drain to the Nexus as my system was with a retro home made bottom drain. Take the central pipe of the Nexus. Push it down in the Nexus inlet, (not too tight). The rubber ring forms a seal. Take a sink, bath plunger. Tape a longer handle to it with gaffer tape. Plunge it up and down a few times inside the pipe. Push it right down and quickly pull the whole plot upwards dragging water through. The crap i used to pull out was unbeleivable.
I can attest that purging the BD is important. My 4" line to my BD is about 22 feet long. When I purge my bottom drain, it comes out looking like 200 gallons of chocolate before it clears up!
Hi Adam very good video have been to that pond on koi club visit just after your revamp l see lots of ponds with no pull on bottom drain more so with drums on, been keeping koi 30 years + and we allways said number one thing is good maintenance and the koi will look after them selves. Can I ask again where you get your Coopens koi food from excellent video stay safe
That's good It's a lovely place that and nice pond I built a new pond there last year which hasn't been on any videos but I'm sure there will be some more koi club visits as its a smashing indoor pond. I Bulk buy my koi food from a wholesaler but they also have shops its cookes pet supplies i also sell it on my website koihouse.co.uk
You should of kept the liner pool. That place looks unbelievable with all of the utility rooms and floors. It seems like I get very lost, everytime I have time to watch a video.
Another thing I get confused about this pond. Is that it's below and above ground. So it's not fully gravity drained. Or may it is. I can't remember, Maybe it's above ground.
A 1000gal could have a 3" bottom drain if your using say an easy pod and a 5000L/h pump but my 1000Gal has a 4" drain with a 10,000l/H pump it depends on what filter you want to use as a 4" really needs a minimum flow of 10,000l/h
@@AdamJulyan Thanks for the reply Adam learnt a lot from your channel. The plan was a qk15 plus moving bed or profi combi 15 and possibly adding a small shower with bhm in the future? Would 10000 l/h be too much flow for approx 5/6 jumbo tosai in a 5000 litre round tank?
Hello Adam been watching your videos for a long time now have a question about the waste water from my pond do have a continuous flow of waste water from the drum filter as you know it’s only about a litre and half each time it cleans but can I do a purge flush straight into the sewage drain??? have watched you doing that purge does that water go down the sewage pipe drain??? Can I link a pipe straight into the sewage pipe??? Kind regards Ken
Hi Adam Can you please advise? Do you have a hose attachment for your Karcher that purges at 360 deg spread to clean down your pipes in your 4 inch bottom drain?? Thanks Darren
Yeah it's that pipe i showed at 1:20 I got it from Aldi they have them in usually in spring it's one of the best things I ever bought from Aldi I use it all the time.
Thanks yes it's high in protein should I put less food in or change my food for a bit to see if it is that coz I did fluke m it last week does that make scum after useing it
Great vid fella.... im currently rebuilding my pond and converting from pump fed to gravity fed... ill be rinning 4inch bd to vortec..... will i need a t-peice in my system to perge or will it be able to perge enough into an empty vortec?? Thanks fella Lee
Thanks 🙂. A vortex is a little better than the Nexus but i would 100% put a T and a separate 4" purge outlet if you can it will make it a lot easier to keep clean.
Hi Adam, how easy is it to make a drainage system/concrete hole for the water to flow into? I'm forever pumping water into a bucket and carrying it to a drain 10-15 metres away...
I have a pond where there is no close drain so it's difficult to purge so I use a layflat hose to run it to a drain then when i don't need it the hose fold away quite neatly.
Great vid Adam 👍🐟 have you ever had any predator issues on that uncovered pond shown in this video? I'm considering not using a net this year (never had any issues) maybe a video on predators of koi might be a good video for you to make 👍
Thanks 🙂. those ponds don't seam to have any issues but when i had an outdoor pond I used to get hereon visits as there is lakes near by but when i built a raised pond is solved that problem.
@@AdamJulyan thanks for your reply Adam 👍 my pond is raised and similiar to the one in this video. I may take a leap of faith n try no net. Happy ponding. Keep up the great vids mate 😊🐟

@@AdamJulyan I've just got a massive airstone to fit to the top of my bottom drain as it isnt aerated so gonna try it.i have a wet suit I've borrowed of my mate and he said ill be fine but still don't fancy it.haha
I have three ponds the ones in this video are other people that I help maintain. we don't have earthquakes here but I would say no as the whole thing would be moving together it should be fine in the same way that tunnels aren't really effected by earthquakes or as bad as above ground structures.
Well spoken! I love my purge valve. Opens once a week all summer and it stays totally clean.
Fantastic explanation and demonstration. cheers Adam 👍

Wow lots of water lol 👍👍👍
The second place has 3 drums? So, their pond has 3 bottom drains? Wow, I hope we see a clip of the pond too. Enjoyable video #filterporn
Only one drum, the others were moving beds
as Garry said the first is the drum the second two have hel-x in them, there are 2 drains and one skimmer feeding the drum.
There was a lot of crap in that pipeline matey! like that one it can have 4" when it likes! 😂👍

I'm no expert, but if anything electrical grounded in that water I would hope the consumer unit saves your life. Rubber wellies must be a bit safer? 😊
Adam, if i where to buy a drumfilter. Would you get the profidrum or Oase?
I have a 10.000 Liter pond
If you want a plug and play system go for oase if you want a more prosumer then the profidrum.
They are both really good options.
