      @ThePrint Shekar Gupta ji.. I think your research methodology has a flaw.. after a couple of states examples you (your team) asked the question "what are other states building?" and googled "'state name' and building" or something similar. I say this because any researcher who atleast peered below the surface of Andhra Pradesh politics would know that your statement about Andhra has no standing what so ever in this context.
      P.S. Maybe your wishful thinking clouded the detail😜. On a serious note, Andhra political landscape is very interesting right now; SG ji might find it engaging if not intriguing.

    Highway infra has hugely improved in Madhya Pradesh, reach to smaller towns and villages is much better now. I remember driving in MP, mainly around Bhopal-Jabalpur-Vidisha-Narshingarh 15 years ago, and highways used to be filled with dangerous potholes during monsoon or otherwise, all that is now shining flat strong highway lanes. Also, there is brand new Railway Station in Bhopal.
    It is not that there was no development during Congress period but there was lack of will and neglect of quality. Earlier governments set standards too low, and taught citizens to think - "so what if infra is bad or roads are broken, it is just India not USA or Europe". People stopped to dream, and were satisfied with status quo, bocs there was no one to lead and motivate to show that things could be made even better. Govts and PMs will come and go, what we need from each political party and leaders is to set high standards in all areas so that next Govt is forced to maintain and surpass it.

    PM Modi and his ministers like Mr. Gadkari have shown the tenacity and determination to bring infrastructure plans to fruition. As Mr. Shekhar Gupta correctly points out, "it is one thing to envision a project, but different thing to bring that project to completion." So many big size projects are now running; it is very easy for such big projects to stall for any reasons - no funding or funding stopped, labour problems, court cases, public opinion against the projects etc. However, almost all the projects are running in full pace. The Central, and also the State governments, should get credit for the same.

    That’s why we need intelligent reporters who can watch and identify the trends and highlight them to the public. 👏👏 Freebies may help survival of the poor but infrastructure will reduce the number of needy and turn them into contributors to GDP and into nation builders.

      @PK-tt5kk Před rokem +12

      I agree with you. But I feel BJP should focus on social indicators as well like education levels, child malnutrition.
      1) Even today 30% of children in many states are stunted this will lead them to have many cognitive challenges in the future.
      2) Though literacy rates among children is now above 90%, the quality of education is still quite low. Many students cant even do basic high school math.
      There is no point of infrastructure if people will not be able to use them properly. For Eg if I give a computer to an illiterate person, they will not be able to use it. Even to work in factories basic literacy & IQ levels are required.
      Though I understand these are state subjects, center should find ways to help. Atleast by 2030, all regions of India should have social indicators on par with Kerela.
      Second issue I see is that in India we are focusing too much on roads. If we look at cities in Europe or Tokyo. We see that a lot more focus is given on walkable cities & public transportation. The issue with roads is that cars take up too much space. No matter how wide u build a road eventually it will get clogged. India should put lot more focus on metro & trams.

It’s not a choice between infrastructure growth and improvement in social indicators. Infrastructure growth is necessary to improve the social indicators. Also, improving urban infra and national connectivity do not compete but complement each other. We had poor national infra and hence poor logistics. There is focus on those now. States and municipal bodies must be nudged in improving urban infra too. India’s tier 2 and 3 cities really do need focused improvement too.
