Will India become an economic superpower? | Business Beyond

  • India is now the world’s most populous country and its fifth largest economy. By the end of the decade, it is projected to be the third largest, behind only China and the USA. It has a vast youth population while its GDP growth outstrips other top ten economies. Its geopolitical importance is also growing amid a rapidly changing global order.
India now has ambitions to become a global economic superpower. But there are serious question marks. It remains an extremely poor country, with major inequalities from female labor force participation to education. Other issues such as ethnic tensions, democratic decline and environmental damage are fraying the fabric of the Indian Republic.
In this episode of Business Beyond, we ask if India can seize its moment.

Some group of economists have projected that both the U.S and parts of Europe could slip into a recession for a portion of 2023. A global recession, define as a contraction in annual global per capita income, is more rare because china and emerging markets often grow faster than more developed economies. Essentially the world economy is considered to be in recession if economic growth falls behind population growth.

      @@abadyr_India is a Civilizational State.
All the different Kings of India were the same kind of people who dined and married with each other. The people even in earlier times would migrate from one Kingdom to another without any hindrance.
Internal trade within India was huge. Merchants would travel freely. Kings followed a similar system of administration. Culture was always similar. Innovations, Arts, Music, Stories would travel from one region to another in very short time.
So till the foreign invasions from Central Asia and then Britain, there might have been multiple kingdoms but the Entity of India existed very prominently since the ancient times.
Eg. Buddha was born in one Kingdom but spent his whole life in other Kingdoms. He never needed a visa or a permission from anyone to travel to any place he wanted. The same was the case for everyone for almost all of Indian history.
Therefore, on the surface you may arrive at some conclusion that India was divided but in reality it was never the case. India is a Civilizational State and earlier it had many kingdoms. Now it is a Republic, but still has a Civilizational continuity from ancient and even pre-ancient times.

If the answer is 30% and above, then I will agree with the discussion mentioned about in this video. The problem I saw in the last 20-25 years is many women want work which is more desk jobs and not much analytical or technical. India is more of technology, engineering and analytics.

Say, for example, the number of English speakers (as their 1st or 2nd language) in India is the 2nd largest in the world, and yet it ranges somewhere merely between 11 and 15 percent of the population. India has not gone into manufacturing as it's indistry was killed by the previous government as their politicians received huge kickback from China to make imports easier. With Make in India that's changing.
Environment is definately and issue but for a country, which suffered the worst famines during the British Colonial period, the priority was to feed it's people. Today, unlike west India is not only self sufficient in its food security but also world largest two producers of milk, wheat and rice. Now the thrust would be on manufacturing and envoirment. India today is one of biggest manufacturer of Cars and Mobiles and this is just the begining.
India's growth at 7% now is it's best ever because now most of the world major economies are in recession. India will beat Germany and Japan easily because of this. Germany's will face problems as their energy security has been jepodised.

The country's human development index is down in the dumps, the education system needs a complete overhaul, the infrastructure - especially roads, water supply and sewage - are in shambles, people lack basic decency and civic sense and dont even get me started on the senseless taxation - we pay both direct and indirect taxes. The level of technological development is nowhere near modern democracies (except maybe for UPI being a game changer) and the obsession with relegion and the country's supposedly great history is absolutely sickening. The legal system is overburdened and needs a complete overhaul, starting with the changing the pathetic uniforms of our lawyers.
