    In 2014, at age 56, had bypass surgery and a pacemaker put in. This, after decades of HIGH CARB AND LOW FAT, because I wanted to be “healthy”. I have no family history of heart disease and I exercised religiously. Took statins for a year post op. Felt even worse. So 4 years ago put the statins in the garbage. Went HIGH FAT LOW CARB. At age 62, NEVER FELT BETTER IN MY LIFE.
    Thank you dr for the honest vid and having the courage to enlighten us all.
    STATINS ARE POISON AND TOTALLY USELESS.

    I have been fighting on and off for years with my doctor about statins, she said if you don't take this you are going to be dead at sixty like your parents so I took them, last visit I mentioned to her that I could barely walk, she wasn't overly concerned, after watching you Dr Cywes and Dr Nadir Ali, I stopped taking them, within four days I was walking almost normal again, have gone low Carb and fasting, I'm down 10 Kilo and feeling a lot better. Have at least another 20 Kilos or more to go but finally feel I can do this.

    As Mark Twain said, there are lies, damned lies, and statistics (ok, I did write this before I just heard it).
    I had a CT scan last summer for spots on my lungs (I'm a nonsmoker), but the pathologist cites everything he sees one which was a severe fatty liver which after 4 months on keto and losing my belly fat I am hopeful is getting much better.
    But it also showed severe coronary calcification, so I had my doctor order a CAC test so I could get a number to quantify it. Well the score was 474, not good, and so my doctor (a young man) wanted to immediately put me on a statin. My answer was no.
    I'll see him next month for my yearly physical and haven't seen him for a year and he will be surprised at my weight loss. I'm also off of 3 of my 4 high blood pressure meds (working on the final one) and when that's done I'll be on no medications at all. I've made myself responsible for my own health and my own health choices rather simply meekly comply with my doctors next prescription pill fix.

      I’m a nurse .. I have been reprimanded multiple times for suggesting an alternative to standard medical care, mainly keto diet and intermittent fasting, and walking or wading for exercise. Only discuss this for patients who request an alternative. I’m told this lifestyle is unsustainable and that I’m killing people. But guess what... when a doctor is sick they really want to know the alternatives because they are aware, at least at some level, how toxic those meds are. Medicine IS lifesaving sometimes but for most chronic diseases money and resources should go to quality food and lifestyle changes. Thank you doc for allowing people to make a truly informed decision. 💕
      And to Steve - wonderful job. 🎉🎊🎉you are proof it works and an inspiration to many.

    So true - took my mother off statins one year ago, and started her on low carb. She’s 76yrs with heart failure... she’s doing amazingly better in all areas. It’s truly a miracle!!!
    She’s was quite ill and life was a misery. Her ejection fraction improved from 30% to 51% - it’s been a real life changer! She’s nearly back to normal, and we’ve had to reduce her diuretics. Edema is gone!
    Also, her weight dropped from 82kg to 62kg in 10months and she couldn’t really exercise or walk properly for the first 7months.
    Diabetes improved A1c almost normal and insulin dropped from 70 units to 10 units per day. No more sugar spikes or hypos.
    I have my mother back, it’s great 😀
    Just to add, we also use 150mg Ubiquinol (morning and night), 1000mg omega 3, magnesium oratate 400mg (morn and night) and keep vitamin D in the higher range by checking blood work regularly.

    I observe friends, and gently instruct them on a LCHF diet. You would think I have three heads. They say, oh, that's my downfall, I could never give up my potato or candy. Yet, they would rather make appointments with the doctor, get scared of the bloodwork, and then start taking everything that is prescribed. Make appointments, miss appointments, reschedule, rush on a day that you may not make it on time, get prescribed medication, the pharmacy is out, but will have it in a week, but the day it's ready, you can't get there until the next day or the day after that. God forbid that we would get sleep, eat the proper human diet and exercise. Much preferable to take meds, go to the doctor, reevaluate meds, get new meds, miss appointments, reschedule, go to the pharmacy late at night and so on. I'm 66 and on no meds. Not to say I'm perfect by any stretch, but everyone thinks I should be on something. Why? So they can feel better about themselves not wanting to take care of themselves? I'm almost 6' and 152lbs. It wasn't always like this. I gave up drinking three years ago and lost over 40lbs. Started getting sleep, and exercise. Not only weight loss, but BP went from 190/120 to 117/60, without meds. I could even get worked up, and my BP would stay within range.

They were going to lecture on the biochemistry of this very important compound, but were stunned that pharma wanted to deplete humans of cholesterol. One of the biggest hoaxes in pharmaceutical history. I watch friends and family go on statins and lose their energy and lose muscle strength. As a result, I've lost over70 pounds, I'm no longer Insulin Resistant, I don't need medication for high blood pressure, and I have far more energy. Several months back I quit statins. My muscles no longer ache after a 5+ mile walk and I feel a lot better. Unfortunately my Doctor wanted me to switch to a Low Fat/High Carb diet and continue taking statins. Let's see my Doctor wants me to return to a diet and medication that caused the problems in the first place!!! Much to her dismay I refused. I can only hope that some day the AMA will recognize that they have it backwards.

    Finally someone saying what I have known all along. I'm an old nurse and this statin thing has bothered me for a long time. My daughter called me the other day and said her Dr wanted to put her on statins I told her no don't do it. Simplified, when you walk into a Dr's office there are 3 things they say, your bp is to high, your cholesterol is to high and your borderline diabetic. Here are the first 3 drugs you need, statin, bp med and diabetic med. Invest in all 3 I say. I'm sorry your either a diabetic or your not. I don't believe in borderline.

    • @EZCarnivore
      @EZCarnivore Před 3 lety +2

      I believe in borderline diabetes, but I also think that the level for it is far, far lower than what doctors would consider. It's too late if you've got elevated blood sugars, you are already diabetic, even if it's only slightly elevated. There are much better blood markers that will show progression of the disease far in advance of blood sugar.

    Some details: The study used "propensity score overlap weighting" to fudge the numbers. For example, the statin users were indeed 3.5 times as likely as the non-users to have started with a high baseline cholesterol. The study then *projected* that this means they were far more likely to die had they not taken statins to reduce their cholesterol. BUT, does high cholesterol even HAVE a propensity to cause you to die sooner? Nope, in fact the opposite is true, which one can see if you google "cholesterol as a risk factor for mortality in elderly women". So the study took something which should have been an advantage (higher cholesterol), declared it to be a significant disadvantage, and used this as justification to present a conclusion that was the opposite of the raw data.

    I have known about the statin scam for years ever since watching Statin Nation on Netflix. However, my doctor has been hellbent on getting me on them “to protect my heart” for almost as long. Finally I had a bright idea that might work for you too. I took the prescription from her, filled it at the pharmacy (I have a drug plan which I hardly ever use so it only cost a few bucks). When I got home I threw the meds in the trash. I waited about a week and a half and then called my doctor’s office and told her nurse that I’ve been having lots of joint pain and wondering if it could be a side effect of the new medication? (It is one of the most common side effects). A couple of hours later I got a call from the office. Doctor said to discontinue use. Problem solved!

    So should you go off 20 mgs atorvastatin if you had a 150 calcium score and just started using keto 20 grams total to fix prediabetes?

    I had a Dr. tell me that if she could have statins put in the water supply she would. What do you think of that? I have refused to take a statin.

      Not rare. With some physicians, statin use is a religion and they’re its evangelists...

    Why does JAMA publish a paper with what is obviously skewed results? Doesn't someone that works there read over the material to see if it's legit? Or is the fact that it was a done study mean, to them, that they don't need to fact check?

    But my bad cholesterol is 384. What am I supposed to do for that? I mean I'm scared! So my Dr said I have to try statins. I began this week. If I don't take them will I die? Been keto for one year. Lost 70 lbs. 45 to go.

    Has Dr Cywes ever done a video on the APOE4 gene? Or even Blood Type. Apparently Type A and APOE4 shouldnt eat saturated fat. Id like to hear his opinion on it.

    • @EZCarnivore
      @EZCarnivore Před 3 lety +4

      APOE4 needs to avoid inflammation, the reason why they're "supposed to" avoid saturated fat is because all of the studies around it are comparing high inflammation SAD mixed macro diets to high carb low fat diets, of course there will be less inflammation if you lower the fat. You get the same effects eating low carb high fat as well, but only the latter is our ancestrally appropriate diet ;) I'm APOE3/4 and I've got no concerns with eating a high fat diet, especially with how satiated I am, I hated snacking all day and feeling hungry constantly on a high carb diet!

      Also there's no real differences with blood type with the research I've done, I personally know carnivores of every blood type.

    Dr Rob, CAC score (2019) is 450, only mild to some moderate stenosis per iv contrast scan. threw away my Crestor, Vassepa and Repatha. Been keto 2+ years carnivore 6 months. Any other suggestions? I do plan to request another CT later this year, hoping to not see any disease progression, and maybe even improvement!

    Dr Cywes does this in several videos. He tries to present numbers comparing categories without actually presenting any table or chart for the viewer to see. He ends up verbally going over the numbers in a manner difficult for the listener to absorb. He really really really needs to somehow get a table or chart into the video. I don't care if he holds up a whiteboard in front the camera, to prints out a spreadsheet and puts it on camera for a minute. He needs to master whatever technique he can afford, to make the presentation more visual, not entirely verbal.
    I like Dr Cywes and his information is valuable. So I am not trying to tear him down. I am suggesting a way to make the presentation better so that he can reach more people and do more good.

    Really? You need an army behind you now...to "even teach this material". This is obvious to me...reading and really understanding since 1984-5'ish...
    You need to set up clinics in every state...every country.. and call the clinics....
