You can get more Limonene if you cut the peel carefully, cut off the white stuff, then blend the peel with in water. A lot of limonene is lost if you grate it since the oil can come out of the peel easily and evaporate.

I was a UPS driver in Central Florida and picked up some of this product occasionally in 5 gallon paint buckets from a large citrus packer in the city of Frostproof being shipped overnight to Japan. The man on the shipping dock said it was being used for Perfume. It was insured for $32,000 and was just the packed in a hard plastic paint bucket with a metal semi-circle handle, in a plastic bag. In the 1980's, the was a crapload of money. Back then, with the college kids we had working in the Orlando hub, that I have personally seen stack 17" inch computer monitors 10 high just to watch them get knocked over, the chances of it making it all the way were slim. I can't imagine a bucket of this stuff leaking out. The place would smell like citrus for decades. At least with Next Day Air service UPS will only have it 24 hours and wouldn't be handling it long. Once it got to Japan it would be handled by mature adults.

    Hi Nile,
I've watched the one on making soaps and thought it would be cool to add some essential oils. After seeing this video I figured that one could probably distill those oneself. And sure there are many videos on YT (often leaning very much towards esotherics), but they all seem to be using steam distillation. As my trusted chemist of choice, I wanted to ask you why this is the best method. Why don't you just take the orange peel in this example and mix it with some organic solvent (I think you used hexane or similar) transfer the essential oils into the hexane separate it from the water and evaporate it? I'm sure there is a good reason and I am just curious what it is ;-). Thanks for you videos!
