As a Latino and going to family parties my whole life; you will literally dance with your mom, your grandma, your cousins, your sis, your aunts, female friends, etc. Like there is difference between dancing together and grinding. And as an unspoken rule, as a man dancing with another woman (like dancing salsa and not grinding) don't wrap your fingers around their waist, just use your palms. It's not a huge deal, but it is a sign of respect.

I was interacting with people way older than me, way younger, different backgrounds, people who I never even would've met without dance. I owe a lot to dance.

The issue here is that many people feel the need have alcohol as the basis for them to go to these places, AND 9 times out of 10 will only step onto the dancefloor after they've drank enough.
Recognize those in these spaces more often contribute to being socially awkward than meshing and mingling with others. You'd be very surprised on how important it is to share movement with some stranger on the dancefloor. That's all I'm saying----

Just don't take it too seriously in the beginning, and by that I mean be comfortable to look ackward in the beginning, make mistakes, don't appologize for every missed step, I assure you we have all been there and looked terrible at the starting line, just take it with humor and enjoy the ride. It will get better with exerience! What it also does, you automatically tend to care a bit more about your appearance, which is also good. And then look out for times when people meet (often for free in bigger cities), just go there, even not yet being a pro, being there and observing people you can learn too and you will be in the community of others not alone. There was never really even one time that I thought, nah I shouldn't have come, I always went away with a good feeling.
Sadly for myself my dancing times are over as I'm walking on a rollator now because of illness and cannot stand straight anymore, and I dearly miss it.

This reeks of 1. cultural ignorance, 2. social ineptness. Because even if you aren't latino/caribbean etc, if you're someone that goes out to more than just night clubs, you would have come across people from different cultures dancing or even if you're just a white american, line dancing is quite literally a thing as well that sometimes 2 people will do together.

My wife has danced with guys like that and she just points to me in the crowd and says, "that's my husband". If the guy keeps advancing, she just walks away. She's a grown woman who can handle herself.
Meanwhile, I just wave and laugh at the guy desperately trying to get somewhere that he's not going to get to.
You gotta understand, my wife LOVES dancing! She's a dance instructor! She's no stranger to this type of behavior, but it honestly rarely ever happens.

Edit 2 [Im done responding to this thread because I made my point clear. If you disagree, so be it. There will be others that agree and you can debate with them.]
To be perfectly honest, I can’t help but laugh at this. 😂
People are so socially inept that they think dancing is inherently sexual.
Edit: I think I need to make this clear.
I’m not saying dancing CANT be sexual. I’m saying dancing as a whole is not INHERENTLY sexual. And to translate im saying “If you want to dance with someone, that does not immediately mean you are wanting to be sexual, the dance is sexual, or trying to seduce the person .”
There are plenty of dances not meant to be taken in a sexual manner and many separate intimacy from dancing unless they want to be intimate with said person. They are performers or people just wanting to dance. If an actor Kisses another actor while dating or being married, that does not suddenly mean said actor is in love with another person. It’s a performance. Whether the partner is okay with that type of stuff or not is up to them, but as it stands it is just a performance.
Ballet from my understanding actually hated the fact that their dancing form was being overly sexualized by the public and media, leading to many cases of grooming and sexual harassment.

I'm ngl this video really came in clutch for me. I just started dating a Latina girl and she and I have been going great for a month so far. But one thing I've noticed which connects to this video, is that she loves to dance salsa, pachata, etc. My family is middle eastern, and for us if you touch a girl that isn't your wife/gf you're practically cheating. I'm being slightly hyperbolic when I say that but at the same time it's really not far off from the truth. So when my girl told me that she has a group of friends that she goes dancing with in these kinds of events, I was initially thrown off. I was more uncomfortable when I found out that some of those friends were guys. But she had reassured me that she's been doing this shit for years and that there was nothing sexual going on between her and these friends. I've been skeptical about it until last night when we had another talk about it with her, and after I watched this video. It definitely gave me a bit of context to my gf's culture and helped me understand that not everything involving dancing involves sex. Thanks for the video you two, it definitely helped put me at ease.

Both my parents are from Mexico, two different cities, and both from both sides of the spectrum, my dad from the side of no woman should dance with anyone but her husband and my mother who grew up with family and friends who all danced with each other and it was normal. I also grew up dancing, I didn’t love it as much as my mother so I didn’t stick it with it or cared to fight for it when it came to partners, however my mother LOVED it, she still loves, but my father never changed his mindset and he also doesn’t like dancing himself, so for the last 43 years she has basically given up one of her most favorite things she has always loved to do, and there is nothing more tragic then seeing someone who loves to dance at a get together, like a wedding, a birthday, special event, who you can see glowing in the face who wishes she can dance but has to say no, to family members, friends, etc, im just saying, despite cultural differences or even personal preferences, if your partner has a love for something and it brings them joy, don’t kill that for them, at least try and be understandable, otherwise your just making a big part of your partners life miserable that would have made them extremely happy if it wasn’t for you.

The guy stays and the girls move down to the next ,and circulate. You inevitably dance with other peoples wives, husbands and they know so its not an issue. On top of that its respectful and understood. Your there to learn. Also dancing with different people constantly is one of the best ways to be a better leader, and follower instead of getting used to just one partner.

For the people in the back, you can use your bodies for things other than sex and have a good time. I want to say that this is more of a culture shock than anything else because I've seen it personally as a Latino (Mexican) myself. We're a very socially outgoing culture where our fiesta's, quinceaneras, weddings, etc all have dancing at their core with bandas and mariachis going on all night. Its common to see people dancing with different partners even without them being in a relationship because its just supposed to be a fun pastime. Move around guys, its genuinely a great time!
